WILD WEST BASS TRAIL TAKES MOHAVE

SEARCHLIGHT, Nev. – Wild West Bass Trail (WWBT) kicks off its second stop of the 2017 Pro/Am season at Lake Mohave presented by the City of Henderson on Friday, February 24.

The full field of over 110 anglers will continue their bass hunt on Saturday, February 25 competing for a coveted spot among the top-10 on their respective side (pro or co), to secure a third and final fishing day.

The event will conclude Sunday, February 26 with each of the top-10 pros and the top-10 co-anglers separated into their own individual boats for a pro vs. pro and co vs. co. The weight of each angler’s five-fish limits for each of the three days are combined for a tournament total that will determine both a WWBT pro and co-angler champion.

The Mohave event has drawn a majority of its anglers from California and others have traveled from as far as Oregon and Idaho to compete. Approximately a third of the competing anglers hail from the surrounding states in Nevada and Arizona.

At the end of official practice Thursday evening, the event dock talk heard tale of several four and five-pound smallmouth as well as a few largemouth appearances. A few anglers shared sightings of bed fish however, most reported pre spawn, staging bass.

Although most suggested the bite was far from wide-open, the consensus was 20-pounds a day would be necessary and several thought the big stringer would exceed 25-pounds.

Traveling from the Golden State, 2016 WWBT Lucas Oil Western Classic champion from Lake Mead, Bryant Smith is part of the pro field looking for his second desert lake trophy from the WWBT. Smith found practice to be a tough one, “I am catching a few fish here and there; but I haven’t found anything very consistent,” he said. “Tournament day, I am just going to go fishing.”

Fishing fans can follow Smith and the other WWBT anglers each day by attending the weigh-in at the WWBT scales or via live stream.
