Okay, so now what if I said......

Post by Fish Chris »

{and this in no way contradicts anything I have said before, but rather, it just focuses on a different aspect}

"I'm all for the best use of our F&G. Selective harvest of the more numerous / more easily replaced segments of our F&G can be a great thing. I'd like to see more small to medium fish available for harvest AND more big fish available for.... well you know" :-)

Who on this forum, cannot see this underlying sentiment, in posts like my last one ?

Who here disagrees with this ?

Who is going to try to turn my words around here too ?

What I'm saying is (in case some of you hadn't noticed) I'm very respectful of, and totally passionate about, our F&G, and I'd like to see it fluorish to it's highest potential.

So now, how we get to this point will always be debatable, but at least on this basic level, doesn't everyone here agree ?

Chris I agree with you about trying to better are fishing and hunting. But there are allot of people who dont care. And lets face it, that licence all of us english speaking people have says we can harvest x number of fish. I have heard allot of old timers say I just paid 30, 40 or 50 bucks for my licence and I am gunna kill something. I think they assume that F&G must be using that money to replace what they kill, not realizeing that F & G is a walking abortion.

Hey Brambo, I hate to say it, but their are a lot of guys out their on the water who don't care...... or should I say, "who shouldn't be on the water".

But I have to believe that most, if not all of the guys who come to this forum, DO care about our F&G {note: I didn't say, about our F&G Dept, I said, our F&G}....... Even the ones who come on here, seemingly wanting to argue, and stir up garbage, about everything the next guy posts. I think the guys that act this way on a public forum either 1) have a warped sense of entertainment (might have been abused as a child or something) or 2) they have misunderstood the OP's true intentions and sentiments. I think some of these guys would argue, even if they secretly agreed ! :-)

I, for one, am against all politicians as most of them are not on the up and up and could show the mafia(of old)how to operate. As for F&G dept. it is being ran more and more by person more against hunting and fishing than the old/retired one's that really cared for our F&G. WIth that said I am dropping the subject and going fishing and any further response will be in the political forum. Bill K :)

I am going fishing to. Chris if you find a solution or can start some sort of class about C/R that can inform the public, I will do everything to help. But I think we are just pissin against the wind on this one. I could go on about how I have seen fisheries destroyed in WA state because of stupid reasons, and I dont want it to happen here. I have 2 boys and 2 girls and I want to leave them a delta thats better off when I found it. But I dont know were to start other than teaching my kids.

Hey Chris, you definitely made a great set of points..I agree qith everything you said..I may be one of those you feels likes to argue, although I do not intend to be..Like Cooch has mentioned on this subject several times, you are preaching to the choir and most are singing the same hymn or at least reading from the same book..

There is indeed a need for increased numbers of "eating size" fish, and a strong drive toward more trophy sized fish..The two are not always mutually compatible..

Catch and release of larger game fish is not a sure cure for the problem, but it sure is a great start..

Hey Chris,
I agree with your point of view. However in this state with it's overwhelming immigrant population it will become increasingly difficult to promote something like C&R. First there are language barriers, then there are cultural barriers to try and overcome. I don't want to be to much of a pessimist, but at this point it is kinda like peeing into the wind. Oh yea we also have the whacko's who believe that no one should have the right to fish, hunt, ride a dirt bike, go 4 wheeling etc...... It's going to take a very unique set of circumstances to turn things around, not just here, but all over the country, and I think fewer and fewer people are sympathetic to the situation. The only real chance true sportsman of this country will have any chance of being heard is to fight politics with politics, a strong lobbying org is desperately needed, without one it'll be more of the same until there ain't no more left.

Ya' know Jim, you make a very valid point ! I know a lot of guys (including myself sometimes) give the Ca DFG a lot of crap, about how they are doing this wrong, that wrong, not enough of this, too much of that.....

But since you mention it, can anybody here imagine how fast our F&G would be completely wiped out, if the Ca DFG just stepped back and said, "We quit. Take all you want, of any size, in any season" !

Regardless of anything they might not be doing so great with, I sure am glad we have a DFG ! Or to put it another way, a DFG with problems, is infinitely better than NO DFG AT ALL ! Hats off to the individuals who are doing everything they can, in spite of all the red tape.

Alright guys,
Many of you know me, and know that I am a total bass fishing nut, but I feel that many of us in here our forgetting/ignoring some very important points due to what our personal values are. We all sit here and talk about the need for sustainable fisheries, but the fact is, the sustainable fishery we want (Bass) interferes with the native fishery that many people with other values are trying to restore. In the end, it comes down to what you think is right? What makes our opinion more valid than the next? In all honesty, restoring native fish populations will increase abundance of other native animals that hopefully, most of us enjoy such as eagles, kingfishers, ospreys, salmon etc.

Getting back to DFG, who are we to criticize what they are doing? They are professionals. Their legislation is created based upon the results of long term exhaustive research projects conducted by many of the nations finest fisheries biologists. We are fishermen, who come from all sorts of backgrounds, but very few of us have the background in ecology and biology that they do. Often times what may seem like a single cause:effect situation to us, may really be an intricate process involving several factors, primary effects secondary effects and so on.

I am not saying who is right or who is wrong, we like to catch bass, no crime in that. Well, bass are an added threat to the delta smelt which is a federally listed endangered species, so maybe a little crime, but not completely our faults.

Once again, I am not saying anyone is right or wrong. I am just showing that the issues we will be facing in our lives will be complex, and that often times conflicting views can both have valid arguments.

This debate will never end. It’s the same reason there are no trophy deer on the east coast and tons of them in Texas and central states. Management!! Food plots, selective harvest, patience, etc….!!! Most people are impatient and unwilling to change their ways and put in the required effort to experience a true trophy. Trophies to them come by chance and pure luck. To some that’s OK. On the east coast any deer with a “rackâ€

Hey Ryan, I hear what your saying, but then I have to ask, "So where does the DFG stand with Stripers ??? I mean they do have several regs concerning them (size limits, creel limits and such) so I would think they would either say, "Stripers are not hurting the Delta Smelt, Salmon, etc, and therefore we have set these measures in place for the protection of Striped Bass which we intend to enforce"...... OR, "Stripers are causing irreperable damage to the Delta Smelt, Salmon, etc. and therefore we are are removing any and all protection from the Stripers".

It would seem odd to me that they would say, "Well, we think they are causing some harm to the Delta Smelt and Salmon..... But maybe they arent the whole problem..... So we are going to put a bunch of regs in place for the protection of Stripers, but we are going to spend little, if anything enforcing these rules" ...... Huh ?

I mean, do they, or don't they want to do anything to help Stripers ???

I'm not talking crap here, I'm just honestly curious ?

Hmmmm.....

Im gonna make this quick. Managers are supposed to rely on the results of the researchers to make to best decision for resource management. Ryan, in California that is not how it happens. Management decisions in California absolutely are not based on data and research results. Nuff said.

Hey Steve, I almost feel stupid to have not put the two together.

But then again, it's nice to know we are only dealing with 1 xxxx xxxx, instead of 2 :-)

I still remember the "Bass Jihad" that was slamming me for putting a 12 lb bass in his face..... That guy struck me as an obvious "Bass Boner" the first time I read the post, but this new identity had slipped right past me.

Hey, back when I ran a forum on my website, if somebody like Boner came along and started too much crap, we'd just take a little vote to decide whether he was banned or not. Only had to ban one poster in the 3 or 4 years I had a forum though.

I think we will see some changes in the years to come. I know there is a lot of research being conducted through fish and game right now involving the POD (Palagic Organism Decline) and striped bass in the Bay/Delta Region.

He dosen't quite get the fact that you need to release some trophy fish so the next generation can catch some also. But I can see from his avatar image......... He is a simple minded dude!

Eat and waste all the stripers you want there Bruizer343! Good for you! Go get em! Skin em and eat em!

Bottom line is Fish Chris was just bringing up a topic that really matters to him and some others. But in NCBF fashion someone had to slam him and anyone else that agrees!

Maybe I should stir the pot more and say that people should release trophy carp also!

Kiss My Bass, youve got inside info, and that makes me wonder who you are.

Ryan, go to one of the every other year regulation change meetings. The Fish and Game Commission are the ones who decide how to do what in this state. DO NOT confuse the commission with DFG. They are separate entities. DFG does not make the decisions regarding natural resource management in this state, the panel of the Commission does. Do your homework, research who the Commission panel members are, figure out the background of these folks, and you will find you answer!

Simple Minds was a purdy good band back when I was in HighSchool.......

-- I got $500 on Bruiser ........ My boys could use some new winter clothes and tennis shoes.

Provided that the boil Bruiser popped himself on his inner thigh is healed... That thing was NASTY !! -- Size of a Navel Orange witht he color of greene slime  -- SWEAR !!

..........If Bruiser looses -- My boys just won't be getting that X-Box for Christmas that they have always wanted.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Since this IS a public forum. Where EVERYONE has a RIGHT TO POST THERE OPINION.

Guess I ll walk off the CLIFF,

Prior to DFG Management we had unlimited take of what ever we choose to Hunt or Fish For.

Sky was full of Passenger Pigeons, Planes were full of Bison, and the sea was full of Whales and Fish.

We as Masters of our own Universe took as we felt there was no limit, Plenty of 1000 pound Sturgeons in the Bay. No limit of 300 ft tall RED WOOD TREES and we as a species HAD ALL THE GOLD IN THEM DAR HILLS.

Never mind that we polluted as we went, raped the forest and killed until we totally obliterated the species off the face of our planet. After all there were plenty to go around RIGHT ?

NOW WHERE ARE WE ?????????

If it wasn't for people like John Muir, Teddy Roosevelt and the others we would not have places to go to such as Yosemite Valley or our National Parks, We would not have the Fish and Game we so covalently and passingly Hunt and Fish for.

Now we worry about our planet heating up, Vanishing smelt in the rivers and water going south. Along with the spread of WEST NILE VIRUS, FRUIT FLYS AND IMMIGRATION AND OUR BOARDERS.

If Ya really want to see what Conservation Doesnt look like just travel to South America or China or Russia or just about any other 3rd world Country, where the Country's Government is powerless or a partner in inept enforcement of Conservation Programs or doesnt have standards for pollution and their environment.

We will always have people around like BRUSER 343 around who think they are funny or cute with there attitude. But are not to concerned about the legacy they are leaving for there Grand Kids or Mine and that's OK with me. I made a personnel choose years ago to sell my guns because I got tired of Killing. And it his right to make fish tacos out of a 40 pound strippers.

Too me its not much different in taking a breeder size fish or a undersized fish out of the river or lake and either skin mounting or making chowder out of em, In my personnel own opinion. once there gone there gone.

Fortunately for us Bass as a species can take higher temperatures, more pollution and will tolerate conditions an changes to there environment than most fish can, Plus they breed at a high rate. So with minimum luck we will have them around for a while longer than say native trout, tuna, or blue whales.

I think I said enough and will bow off the soap box to give time to others who are smarter and wiser than me.
Yeah ? It's Me Again, SO WHAT!!!!!
