HDS3-12 Slow and Reboots?

Post by Morgan »

I have 2 HDS3-12s. When I press pages and select another screen it takes a minute to get to that screen and sometimes reboots. They are connected with Ethernet and NMEA. I've tried disconnecting the networking and that helps. Do I need to do a hard reset? I have lots of waypoints and trail. Could that be a problem?

Hey Morgan, first thing to check is voltage at the unit. Low voltage/current is a leading cause of re-booting, and 12’s especially. Try turning the back sticker light OFF to see if it helps.

Thanks, I have the voltage displayed on screen, and its good, and the 1st thing I do is remove the light.

Morgan does this happen with both units or does it occur in just one of the units?
You can export all your wpts and trails to an SD card just to see IF you are having a memory bog-down. If no change is experienced, you can then import all your files back to the HDS.

I'm in the process of deleting the waypoints and trails and then will try a hard reset. I'm taking my time and deleting lake by lake or at least areas like motherlode, central valley, etc , so if that is the trick I'll just load what area I need. I had over 700 waypoints which shouldn't be a problem. Seemed when my yellow was connected, it was more confused. Definitely when both were connected.

Yes, a Navionics on the console linked to the bow. But it was still being slow with no card in either.

Do you have another Ethernet cable you could connect, to eliminate a possible bad cable?

I'll look to see. The only one I need is going to the Structurescan3D module

Wow, I deleted a bunch of waypoints, did a soft reset, purged the waypoints. But what I discovered was that I had 72 trails, and 1 route. The units specs are: 3000 Waypoints, 100 Routes and 100 Trails with up to 10,000 points per trail. Loosing the trails made a big difference. Now I'm back to the speed I expect and they didn't reboot once the last 4 days.
