Re: Braid on spinning gear
I use braid with a fluro leader, I find I prefer the smoother samuai braid. The advantages: it doesn't develop a memory, no line twist, it casts a mile, and it is the most sensitive line possible. The negatives, the leader will breakoff at some point, or lines get snagged and retieing a double uni o...

Try cottonwood, there seem to be some sizable Largemouth there. Normally I wouldn't toss giant plastics at Mcclure, but you might give a large black worm a shot slathered in scent. Otherwise, maybe try vibration lures like lipless cranks, paddletails, or maybe small buzzbaits.

My first choice is a Dobyn's 702sf, especially for tubes. My second choice is an Avid St. Croix 6'8 M-XF. And I wouldn't be suprised if the new Dobyn's Savy rods might not be darn close too.

If you read the bassdozer article on the internet he puts great store in a balanced head that actually darts back and forth, but often find myself hopiing, or dragging or ripping the bait. so Im not sure what makes a great darter head. I use berserkbaits darter heads.

Yes, they are starting to bite on topwater. More than a month ago the FPT millerton had a fish on a buzzbait, and I've got friends getting bites and follows...and ocassionally catches. Maybe not the numbers bait yet, but certainly worth tossing.

I have no idea what the best one is, but Ill report on my Rapala digital scale. I find it weighs in light, and often runs the battery down quickly. I have two other scales, based on a spring setup and while I use them less often, I suspect they would be prone to being inaccurate as well.

So after the Mike Van Guilder Sr tournament, I had to go over to the Mcclure Point ramp, and while there I saw the Warden. He confirms that there is no limit on carp. He also said Mcclure is up for its 50 year use/review, and that some environmental studies are underway.

Becareful when you buy the cheaper tungsten weights, you'll find that your getting more breakoffs from edges in the BPS weights, and thats what the inserts are for too to prevent line breakage. I'm not an expert, but I've heard people tossing in used plastic worms to add weight and bulk to the bait, this wont keep the water out but might limit the amount that can go in.
