Black Sea Bass Study Underway
The Atlantic Coastal Fish Habitat Partnership (ACFHP) has established a new collaborative project with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore(UMES), Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (Council), and National Fish Habitat Fund (Fund) to study black sea bass habitat characteristics, fish abundance, and fish diets in the Mid-Atlantic.

In an effort to avoid the masses head North as Smallies are grabbing baits throughout the area. Craw patterns are key. Summer night pattern prevails for bait tossing anglers. Catfish start to show in better numbers with Mackerel. Sardines and livers are the best bets for whisker fish. Striper Trolling and plug casting has been Improving the last few days. Trolling the Angry Eyes and Savage Preys is the best bet.

Missouri Black Bass Season Opens May 28
The black bass catch-and-keep season applies to most streams south of the Missouri River for largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted or Kentucky bass and runs from May 28 to Feb. 28, 2017. Anglers may catch these species legally all year, anywhere in the state.

Trolling the Angry Eyes and Savage Preys is the best bet. Sturgeon anglers moved West . Catfish start to show in better numbers with Mackeral.

Isleton Striper Trolling and plug casting has slowed a bit with the dirty water.. Water temps raised a bit this week and a few more stripers in the Cache Slough area responded. Sturgeon remains the focus here. Diamondback anglers are heading to 41, Liberty and Cache Slough areas with roe and eel reporting success.

Catfish started stirring in dead end sloughs, Cut Baits and Crawlers get the top call. Sturgeon remains the focus here. Diamondback anglers are heading to 41, Liberty and Cache Slough areas with roe and eel reporting success.

FWC approved sweeping changes to streamline bass regulations
At a recent meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved sweeping changes to streamline bass regulations and increase effectiveness. Commissioners meeting at the Florida Institute of Public Safety near Tallahassee approved implementation of new black bass conservation measures, which will go into effect July 1.

Harvest Reduction for Recreational Black Sea Bass Approved by ASMFC
Last week a board of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission approved Addendum XXVII to the Summer Flounder and Black Sea Bass Fishery Management Plan, which continues the use of regional management for the two species in the 2016 recreational season.

2016 Black Lake Sturgeon Season Ends After One Hour
According to the DNR, the first two sturgeon were harvested by 8:15 a.m. The first was a 50-inch male that weighed 26 pounds, and the second was a 56-inch male weighing 42 pounds.

Black Bass Management Plan yields angler benefits
This photo taken by FWC researchers shows a pair of spawning bass. Researchers are evaluating in ponds and natural lakes the effect of catching and releasing bass from beds. Even after keeping them for an hour and releasing them more than 100 yards away, the impact on the fish population appears to be insignificant.

Shanties participating in sturgeon season on Black LakeThe Department of Natural Resources has announced the 2016 lake sturgeon fishing season on Black Lake (Cheboygan County) will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. All anglers must register to participate in the lake sturgeon season.
