Reservations accepted for annual Game and Fish Commission Awards Banquet
The Arizona Game and Fish Commission will recognize 16 people during the 2015 Commission Awards event, which will commend national, state and local leaders, wildlife advocates and volunteers for their work to support the state’s wildlife. The event will be Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Arizona Grand Resort at 8000 S. Arizona Grand Parkway in Phoenix.

Weekends — Sandhill Crane Wetland Tour at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve. CDFW docent-led public tours are available to view greater and lesser sandhill cranes at Woodbridge Ecological Reserve outside of Lodi, W Woodbridge Road (95242). Self-guided tours are also available and are enhanced with interpretive panels.

Warmer air and sea, declining ice continue to trigger Arctic change
Fish and walruses moving in face of new challenges - A new NOAA-sponsored report shows that air temperature in 2015 across the Arctic was well above average with temperature anomalies over land more than 2 degrees Fahrenheit above average, the highest since records began in 1900. Increasing air and sea surface temperatures, decreasing sea ice extent and Greenland ice sheet mass, and changing behavior of fish and walrus are among key observations released today in the Arctic Report Card 2015.

Governor Brown’s California Water (non) Fix, aka the Delta tunnels, will devastate the Bay-Delta estuary, first through fourteen years of construction impacts that will not be mitigated, and then through operation of the project, depriving the estuary of essential fresh water flows. The Delta tunnels will transform the estuary into a stagnant, polluted, saltwater pool, unfit for urban drinking water supplies, agricultural use, recreation, business uses, fishery protections, and terrestrial species.

USACE Wants to Recycle Your Christmas Tree as Fish Cover
The Corps will use donated trees to create fish habitat in the lake by placing fish shelters made of bundles of Christmas trees. To donate your tree drop it off from Dec. 26 until Jan. 15 at Sandy Beach boat ramp in Heber Springs, Devils Fork Park's new high-water boat ramp in the Greers Ferry/Fairfield Bay area, or Choctaw Park's boat ramp in the Clinton area. Please do not block access to the ramps for those folks wanting to launch boats.

Muskie Estimated at 60 Pounds Caught on St. Lawrence River
On Oct. 15, Jeff Brockner, of Callicoon, N.Y. caught "a monster," 58-inch muskie with an estimated weight of 60 pounds. He was fishing at the time with his father, Alan Brockner, of North Branch, N.Y. in the son's 20-foot Starcraft boat.
