Johnny Morris Offers Open Letter on Bass Pro Shops Acquisition of Cabela's
Morris explains the merger to Bass Pro workers as he takes the reins of both companies. Bass Pro Shops announced Monday that it would purchase longtime competitor Cabela's for $5.5 billion. Johnny Morris, founder of BPS and now the CEO of both companies, sent an open letter to Bass Pro's employees Monday explaining the merger and setting down his vision for the future. The letter—sent with the subject line "Uniting with Cabela's"—was posted to Bass Pro's website and can be read in full below.

Hi All, As I begin to write this message for the fall issue, I once again am amazed that another season has passed so quickly. Once again, it has been eventful for us in the bass fishing world. We have another WON Bass U.S. Open winner to congratulate as Johnny Johnson recently became the newest fishermen to join the ranks of the prestigious family of champions. Looking back we also have other fishing memories and battles to celebrate including the 15th annual Snag Proof Open, the Don Lee Memorial tournament and the Delta limits victory. As this goes to press, we await two of the biggest western TOC’s of the year with WWBT’s Lucas Oil Western Classic and BBT’s Tournament of Champions with $20K guaranteed cash for the winning team on the line. I look forward to watching for the outcomes of both of these events and the other TOC’s and specialty events like the River2Sea Open that will soon be blasting off.
