Texas ShareLunker Season Has Begun
For over 30 years, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Toyota ShareLunker Program has created awareness of the value of catch-and-release fishing, provided 13 pounds or heavier largemouth bass to support Texas’s selective breeding program and generated nationwide interest in Texas bass fishing. LDWF to Open Fall Red Snapper Season in State Waters The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission, at its regularly scheduled October meeting, took action allowing recreational anglers to harvest additional red snapper in state waters beginning at 12:01 am on Friday, October 7, 2016, during weekends only. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reminds anglers that the unique hook-and-line fishing seasons for lake sturgeon are set to open this Saturday, July 16. Lake sturgeon are one of Michigan's most historically significant fish species, but there are limited opportunities to target them within the state's waters.

Recreational Dungeness crab Fishery Now Open Statewide, Commercial to Follow in Seven Days
The last remaining stretch of coast is open to the recreational fishery today and will open to the commercial fishery on May 26, after a seven day notice period. Today the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Fish and Game Commission (Commission) were notified by the director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), after consultation with the director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), that it recommends lifting the last remaining closure of the Dungeness crab fishery (between a line extending due west from 40° 46.15′ N latitude, the west end of the north jetty at the entrance of Humboldt Bay and north to the southern boundary line at 41° 17.6’ N latitude of the Reading Rock State Marine Conservation Area near Redwood Creek).

Missouri Black Bass Season Opens May 28
The black bass catch-and-keep season applies to most streams south of the Missouri River for largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted or Kentucky bass and runs from May 28 to Feb. 28, 2017. Anglers may catch these species legally all year, anywhere in the state.

California Halibut Opens May 1
California's recreational Pacific halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis) fishery season will open May 1. This year the fishery will be held to a federally established quota of 29,640 pounds. The open season dates will be May 1-15, June 1-15, July 1-15, Aug. 1-15 and Sept. 1-Oct. 31, or until the quota is reached, whichever is earlier. The open and closed periods are intended to spread fishing opportunities from spring through fall. Anglers are limited to one rod and two hooks while fishing for Pacific halibut.

Multiple openers kick fishing season into high gear
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources would like to remind anglers to dust off their fishing gear and get ready for the opening of two fishing seasons Saturday, April 30. The statewide trout season and the Lower Peninsula inland walleye, northern pike and muskellunge seasons all open that day.
