    Hatchery trucks from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) today began the weeklong process of stocking a half million young steelhead smolts on the Feather River near Yuba City. The 125,000 fish released Monday were the first of the fish reared from eggs rescued from the Feather River Fish Hatchery during last year’s Feather River spillway failure. Plants will continue through Thursday near Yuba City.

Trout angling in lower-elevation waters of Southern California generally begins in November and continues through April, to correspond with colder water temperatures that can sustain stocked trout.

    The annual "Incentive" trout stocking will take place during the week of Jan. 8-13. The incentive trout stocking is comprised of larger-than-normal trout. Average-size trout are 10-13 inches in length and .75 pounds per fish. The incentive fish are typically more than 13 inches in length and average around one pound.
