Here are five things that are new with Navionics...
SonarChart Shading
Available now, SonarChart Shading is a new way to view the map data on your Platinum+ and HotMaps Platinum cards.
The new look includes satellite overlay, and the SonarChart Shading provides a detailed look at the lake bottom for a whole new perspective. It makes it easier to see changes in the bottom quickly. The shading has shades of blue to show differences in depths, drop-offs, and other areas that fish relate to. The transparency can be adjusted and blended with the SonarChart 1-foot map data.
The new feature is available on chartplotters that are compatible with the HotMaps Platinum and Platinum+ satellite overlay feature. With the new feature, once zoomed in, the SonarChart Shading changes to actual satellite imagery to show underwater structure such as sandbars and channels.
Currently, the feature is available for over 3,000 lakes, but more will be released in the future. The Navionics website has a complete list of compatible lakes, but some of the more popular lakes on the west coast are included.
Clear Lake, Castaic, Diamond Valley, Havasu, New Melones, Bullards Bar, Oroville, Shasta, Mead, Mohave, and more are included with the updated SonarChart Shading feature.

The 2017 Purchase
In late 2017, Garmin purchased Navionics, and until recently, there was no way to run a Navionics card in a Garmin unit. The new BlueChart g3 and LakeVü g3 charts include existing Garmin data integrated with Navionics mapping data.
In addition, they offer Auto Guidance technology, up to 1’ contours, depth range shading, and shallow water shading. The BlueChart g3 Vision is a coastal chart where the LakeVü g3 Ultra is designed for lake maps.
Both of the cards also feature high-resolution satellite imagery, aerial photos, and 3D views shown above the water line.
The big news here is that Navionics data is now in all of the major electronics brands including Lowrance, Humminbird, Raymarine, Simrad, and now Garmin.

Navionics Heatmap
One of the critical differences between Navionics and other electronic mapping cards is how often Navionics updates their cards. Using a combination of government charts, surveys, and user data, Navionics is continually updating the data that loaded onto their cards. In fact, they process over 2,000 updates every single day.
Once a customer purchases a card, they have a full year to update their cards as often as they like. Once that year is up; they can subscribe to updates for $99 for a year.
The new Navionics Heatmap is a visual look at where those updates are taking place. It is continually being refreshed and updated weekly.

Streamlined App
The Navionics app is one of the most used apps among fishing, and they have streamlined the process for those who run apps on multiple devices. Those who are running two apps on the same operating system (iPhone and iPad, etc.) now need just one app subscription.
This simplifies the buying process, saves some money, and makes sure all of your account information is connected.
