St Croix ICAST message is as clear as glass

The long-established Wisconsin company has chosen the show to take the wraps off a super-premium series called the Legend Glass Casting Rods.

The logic behind the launch is to meet demand for crankbait rods that are a little more forgiving than graphite models when it comes to hooking and holding big fish like bass.

The rods are designed with a soft enough tip to avoid pull-outs, but with ample power to pull lures through weeds and an action moderate enough to keep hooks intact.

The rods acknowledge the past with a honey-coloured finish that has more than a hint of retro about it, but there’s nothing old fashioned about their construction and performance.

Visitors to the St. Croix booth can learn about the rods’ increased strength, low weight, top of the range components and a manufacturing quality the company believes is missing in the marketplace.

The linear S-Glass blanks are built on St Croix’s Integrated Poly Curve (IPC) mandrels, while appearance and performance are enhanced by Fuji K-Series guides with sloping frames and rings designed to shed line tangles.

A split-grip, cork handle has been added to make the sometimes arduous task of cranking as easy as possible on the wrist and hand. The rods are fitted with Fuji ECS reel seats, with the exception of the heaviest duty model, which has a Fuji PSS-SD palming reel seat. This places the trigger on the outside of the palm for extra comfort when fishing those really deep-diving crankbaits.

All four models – the 6’10” medium power, 7’2” medium power, 7’4” medium-heavy power and the 7’11” heavy power – will be on the St. Croix booth, along with a comprehensive selection of the company’s other rods.
