Re: Braid to mono knot on a spinning reel

When I fish the Delta it's the only chance to use braid for heavy cover so for me it's jigs and frogs. Everything else I used my standard SoCal mono or FC outfits. Don't fish off shore big game tuna or Marlin anymore where braid for line capacity with 100' long top shot mono or FC, not really a lea...

Re: Braid to mono knot on a spinning reel

Wind on leaders using conventional ocean reels isn't any problem, no level wind. Why bass anglers think they need tuna strength terminal tackle for LMB is another topic, LMB aren't powerful fish. I my opinion braid is over kill unless it's needed to cut through heavy aquatic vegetation or using bra...

Re: Braid to mono knot on a spinning reel

Straight braid is good to me when using the higher pound tests like 40-65 but when tying knots with 15lb-20lb if you are not careful you will cut your hands up when you pull your knot together. I have found that straight braid will get fouled in treble hooks much more often than braid with short mo...

Re: Another Delta sea lion

I am not very familiar with the Delta beyond it's reputation for producing large bass. Are the sea lions a relatively new thing? And if so what led to them becoming so prevalent? They were drawn to the Delta because their primary food source, salmon, has declined. They moved into the Delta looking ...

Re: Another Delta sea lion

The Delta is just being torn apart by these things. I hit one last week, probably didn't kill it, but it did break my prop. It's sad seeing such a great fishery go to waste. Eventually someone is going to get hurt when they hit a big one at 60+. I agree. Hitting anything that weighs more than 400 l...

Not as good a chance as eliminating the sea lions would have. It already has been shown to be successful in Oregon.

Re: Punching hook question

Thanks for the responses. Oddly enough I picked up some of the Owner CPS hooks today. In case I wasn't clear in my initial comment. The issue I have is with the hook point pushing through the bait and snagging on the cover going in and out. It seems with the cam motion of the Snell knot when the ba...

Those answers above aint wrong - you'll just have to see what works for you. The first question is are you looking to truly Flip or more of pitching ? Flippin is a fixed amount of line with the bail closed and pitchin is more of a backhand roll cast to ease the bait slowly into a pocket. I think mo...

Re: Punching hook question

Use a straight shank hook with a keeper, put an 0 ring 3/8" onto the head of your bait to catch the keeper, put your hook in like you normally would, but don't let the point go all the way through. If you snell your hook, it will cam out through the plastic on the hookset, and the 0 ring will h...

Call whichever tournament trail you're interested in fishing, and ask them how they handle cheating. Then you...

I opened the front inspection panel on my boat's bow, and and found the rod tubes on the non-driver side had hard rubber end caps, with space in front of them, so I cut the ends of the rod tubes off, and now I can fit 8'+ rods in my rod locker.

Get some 1/2 oz. chatterbaits with weed guards, so you can throw them across and through the sparse tules more easily. Since you'll need heavy (50 lb) braid for fishing them through the cover, use a baitcaster, and button down the drag. Use a med. heavy roe with enough tip to make casting easy and a...

Be sure to use stranded copper wire, not solid and not aluminum. Electricity travels on the surface of a wire, and stranded has a lot more surface, plus it is much less prone to metal fatigue breakage from vibration.
