New Recreational/Commercial Shark Fishing Requirements for 2018
NOAA Fisheries reminds Highly Migratory Species (HMS) vessels that the remaining new recreational and commercial measures implementing Amendment 5b to the 2006 Consolidated Atlantic HMS Fishery Management Plan (FMP) become effective January 1, 2018. Amendment 5b implemented a range of management measures to end overfishing and rebuild overfished dusky sharks. Other measures for Amendment 5b became effective June 5, 2017. CDFW January 2018 | California Department of Fish and Wildlife Calendar
Guided Wildlife Tours at Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, 3207 Rutherford Road, Gridley (95948), 12:30 p.m. The 90-minute walking tour covers slightly more than a half-mile through this premier birding spot that highlights migratory waterfowl and other wetland wildlife. Tours are cancelled in the event of heavy rain. No reservations are necessary for groups of fewer than 20 people. Closure of California Recreational Abalone Fishery for 2018
The California Fish and Game Commission yesterday voted to close the 2018 northern California recreational abalone fishery due to ongoing environmental conditions that have significantly impacted the abalone resource. The closure affects next year’s recreational abalone season, which was scheduled to open on April 1, 2018.

2018 FLW and SAF HIGH SCHOOL FISHING SCHEDULE
FLW and The Bass Federation have prepared a full season of High School Fishing tournaments for 2018, headlined by the 2018 High School Fishing National Championship and World Finals on Pickwick Lake in Florence, Ala. As well, the schedule includes 29 Student Angler Federation (SAF) High School Fishing State Championships, 24 Bass Pro Shops FLW High School Fishing Opens, seven state high school athletic association sanctioned tournaments and three SAF High School Fishing Challenge tournaments.

For 2017 and 2018 CDFW Expanding Lands Pass Program to Dozens of Properties
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is expanding its Lands Pass Program to 41 wildlife areas and ecological reserves this fall and winter and will soon require a CDFW lands pass of all visitors 16 or older. Those carrying a current hunting or fishing license are exempt from this new requirement.
