Frog Mods that will Jump Out at the Snag Proof Open with Ish Monroe
His Phat Frog comes with a glass rattle chamber, but when he needs to give the fish a bigger dinner bell, Monroe will locate the rattle inside the bait, hold it between his fingers and then use his pliers to crush the glass container. More pieces equals more sound.

Many are starting to stick with drop-shotting Robo Worms We are seeing a few big Black Bass with ¾ ounce Jigs. Others looking to score are starting to Toss ProZ Frogs.

SMUD and CDFW stock trout in El Dorado County reservoirs
For the second consecutive year, SMUD, in conjunction with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), is stocking three Sierra reservoirs with rainbow trout. The stocking will run through August with at least 25,000 pounds of fish stocked into Union Valley, Ice House and Loon Lake reservoirs in El Dorado County.

California: Ivory Ban Now in Effect
Signed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. last October, a new law banning the sale of nearly all ivory in the state of California is effective as of July 1, 2016. The ban, which can be found in California Fish and Game Code, section 2022, encompasses teeth and tusks of elephant, hippopotamus, mammoth, mastodon, walrus, warthog, whale and narwhal.

In an effort to avoid the masses head North as Smallies are grabbing baits throughout the area. Craw patterns are key. Summer night pattern prevails for bait tossing anglers. Catfish start to show in better numbers with Mackerel. Sardines and livers are the best bets for whisker fish. Striper Trolling and plug casting has been Improving the last few days. Trolling the Angry Eyes and Savage Preys is the best bet.

California: Nonlead Ammunition Implementation Phase 2 Starts July 1
Starting July 1, 2016, nonlead shot will be required when taking upland game birds with a shotgun in California, except for dove, quail, snipe, and any game birds taken at licensed game bird clubs. In addition, nonlead shot will be required when using a shotgun to take resident small game mammals, furbearing mammals, nongame mammals, nongame birds and any wildlife for depredation purposes.

I can’t believe spring has already passed. WesternBass was happy to help cover many of our springtime events including the hourly weigh-in excitement of the Yamamoto Big Bass Challenge on the California Delta and the Wild West Bass Trail’s California Teams championship on Clear Lake. We hope you enjoyed the live video coverage that we were able to bring to you from the water and the scales. It’s that time of the year again and ICAST is on in just a few weeks! Frog Master, Bobby Barrack and I will be returning to the show and running live video shots from the floor. I have already made several appointments with manufacturers and their pros to review the latest products they have to offer. We are both excited to see all the new items and share them with you! Next month will be the 15th annual Snag Proof Open -the Original Frog Tournament. You may recall that last years event had over 200 boats with a 100% payback of over $40,000. This year, Nate Chandler owner of Snag Proof is hoping to have over 300 boats and make this the biggest event out west, along with the biggest, two-day specialty tournament payout... Go Snag Proof! In September, there are many events that we are looking forward to. For all the Delta rats, we will have the kick off of the 2016-2017 season of the Hook tournaments, Dan’s Delta Outdoors will host their only Pro/Am of the season and Randy Pringle and the Best Bass Tournaments will bring us the return of BassFest. The 34th annual WON Bass U.S. Open will hit Lake Mead and early bird registration is already underway for this one! We also have the WWBT Lucas Oil Pro/Am western championship also at Lake Mead. All and all, the WWBT took off and never looked back. Great turnouts along with 100% payouts really attracted many of our best anglers and great competitor numbers. Next year’s events should only get better! This quarter, WesternBass has welcomed three new sponsors. Santa Clara Valley Water District Taxpayers Protest Hidden Taxes Funding Delta Tunnels Planning
Today, ratepayers from Santa Clara Valley Water District questioned unfair, and possibly illegal, fees that have emerged in documents recovered under the Public Records Act. The documents reveal an elaborate money transfer mechanism set up years ago that is funding planning for the controversial Delta Tunnels project. Fees that taxpayers and ratepayers never approved.

Dan’s Delta Outdoors Presents The Black Bass Tournament Series | Results June 19
We had another solid tournament with many new faces in the field. Marc Young and Dave Newton have been with us all year and the reaction bite was able to elevate them to the top in this event. Frogs were key to their success which netted them big fish for the day of 7.75 pounds and a 25.24 pound limit. With Options and 380.00 in Big fish money they made 2147 dollars for the victory.
