Grant Funding Available for Angling Programs Geared to Hispanic Communities
Latinos are California’s largest ethnic population, with almost 15 million people of Hispanic heritage. Yet only a fraction of California’s nearly 1.8 million anglers are Hispanic, and according to a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service study, Hispanic participation in fishing and angling activities has remained stagnant even as overall participation has increased nationwide. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) are looking for new ways to educate and engage Hispanic communities in the sport of fishing, and this year, grants will be made available for programs, classes and activities that support this cause.

Westernbass Magazine, Fall 2016
Hi All, As I begin to write this message for the fall issue, I once again am amazed that another season has passed so quickly. Once again, it has been eventful for us in the bass fishing world. We have another WON Bass U.S. Open winner to congratulate as Johnny Johnson recently became the newest fishermen to join the ranks of the prestigious family of champions. Looking back we also have other fishing memories and battles to celebrate including the 15th annual Snag Proof Open, the Don Lee Memorial tournament and the Delta limits victory. As this goes to press, we await two of the biggest western TOC’s of the year with WWBT’s Lucas Oil Western Classic and BBT’s Tournament of Champions with $20K guaranteed cash for the winning team on the line. I look forward to watching for the outcomes of both of these events and the other TOC’s and specialty events like the River2Sea Open that will soon be blasting off. We once again want to thank all of you for tuning in to WesternBass and for supporting our sponsors which make the site, the magazine and this forum possible. Wayne
