Butte County Receives Local Spill Response Equipment
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) oversaw the delivery of oil spill response equipment and training for Butte County first responders today. Butte County is the fifth inland area awarded the spill equipment grant since OSPR expanded its preparedness activities statewide.

Ehrler also offered some tips on how he approaches the different tides. “On low tide, I like to be on the outside edges of grass and fish there and also pitch to the holes in the grass,” he shared. “At high tide, I always seem to do better around ‘hard lines’ like tules and riprap banks,”Mid-tide is when he focuses on scattered grass as the fish move with the tide change.

Commercial and Recreational Rock Crab Fisheries Open near Channel Islands
State waters around the Channel Islands are now open to both the recreational and commercial rock crab fisheries. Today, the director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), after consultation with the director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), notified the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Fish and Game Commission (Commission) that they recommend lifting the remaining closure within the Channel Islands exclusion area between Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa islands.

Wildlife Conservation Board Funds Environmental Improvement and Acquisition Projects
At its June 2 quarterly meeting, the Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) approved approximately $17 million in grants to help restore and protect fish and wildlife habitat throughout California. Some of the 20 funded projects will benefit fish and wildlife – including some endangered species – while others will provide the public with access to important natural resources. Several projects will also demonstrate the importance of protecting working landscapes that integrate economic, social and environmental stewardship practices beneficial to the environment, landowners and the local community. The state funds for all these projects come from initiatives approved by voters to help preserve and protect California’s natural resources. Funded projects include:

Wild West Bass Trail Returns to the Delta
The Wild West Bass Trail (WWBT) returns to the Golden State’s 1,000 miles of waterways on June 4 – 5 for the General Tire Duel on the California Delta, the final Pro/Am event of 2016. Over 150 pro and co-anglers will blast-off for the big bass battle at Big Break Marina.
