    The first leg of the 2016 California Tournament Trail (CTT) pro-am circuit wrapped upJanuary 16-17 at Lake Oroville. After four years of drought, we’re finally having a real winter trying to fill the lake all at once. As the newly crowned amateur champion, Sean Widger of Livermore put it: “It was nasty.” This made fishing, boat-runs, and on-the-water coverage challenging, even during the practice period.Anglers stuck it out despite the weather, with virtually every boat weighing in, as they should, in a great display of sportsmanship and support. In the end, it was Chico State college angler; Travis Bounds of Roseville getting his first win as a pro taking home $2,600 by edging Chad Frie by the smallest of margins.

    The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Fish and Game Commission (Commission) were notified today by the director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) that, in consultation with the director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), a determination has been made that Dungeness crab caught on the mainland coast south of 38° 00′ N Latitude (near Point Reyes in Marin County) no longer poses a significant human health risk from high levels of domoic acid and recommends the opening of the Dungeness crab fishery in these areas in a manner consistent with the emergency regulations.

    Invasive Mudsnails Detected in Lower Feather River; Anglers and Boaters Urged to Help Prevent Spread

    The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has confirmed the presence of New Zealand mudsnails in the low-flow section of the Feather River in Butte County, and is asking recreational users of the river to “clean, drain and dry” fishing and recreational gear and watercraft in order to help prevent the spread of these invasive snails.
