Re: Truck?
i'd go with a ford or a chevy. given the current state of our economy, i wouldn't even think about a toileta or a nissan. i own a small business that depends on our trucks, and ford has never let me down in 18yrs. be american, buy american.

Re: One word to all of you
it seems that a big portion of this thread is about handling fish carefully................with that said, how about taking another big step and eliminate the use of nets and make a rule against flipping fish onto the deck? this does a tremendous amount of damaged to our beloved fish of choice. i se...

never tried them on the delta, but the motherlode fish like them. i've caught some decent fish on these things. bought a couple of the kits on clearance last yr, and have had a blast with them. good action baits.

Re: DFG Busts Sturgeon Poachers....
says the fish sell for 2-4 thousand apiece. they have evidence of 18 kills. bail was 15 thousand. why not at least set the bail at the value of the fish? this guy will probably get a slap on the wrist, probation, and still turn a profit. wouldn't surprise me if he's on the water right now doing the ...

Re: New Melones--Is this Right?
i hate paying fees for anything! however, i think the $60.00 annual fee was very fair, and i bought one the first day they were available. charging fees is a good idea if the money is used properly. i don't mind paying a fee to have the restrooms clean, the trash emptied and the launching facilities...

i'd go with the ford van. vans can be very versatile. looks like a good price too.

TOPWATER - mostly a chug bug. (i'll throw this anytime, anywhere and it produces)
7 INCH BLACK WORM - (rigging depends on the forage)
LEMON SENKO - (hard to beat in the late afternoon)

i see a guy at melones several times a week. throws everything on a spinning rig. this guy can absolutely kill them with cranks. no idea who he is or his name, but he scores well. i have never witnessed anyone land them on cranks as consistent as this guy. tin boat with his dog. he has my vote hands...

Re: procraft or ranger?
if money is not an issue, i'd go with the ranger for the customer service and the re-sale. if you are on a budget, the procraft is one of the best "bang for the buck" boats on the market. i always try to approach these questions as un-biased as possible, but if you want a truly realistic a...

Re: Pontoon/Kick Boat
i've had several float tubes in my lifetime but never a pontoon boat. the tubes i was most happy with were the buck's bags. do keep in mind that adding a trolling motor requires you to register and post a CF # on the craft. i didn't realize this until i came across 2 guys that had just gotten a tick...

how would you define, and enforce the rules? i have been fishing for 30 yrs and have always used "swimbaits" i bought one of those cardboard thingys full of mr. twister sassy shad when i was a kid, and have been a believer since. many of these so called swimbaits are similar to crank baits...

xpress boats are nice, triton not even close for the price, g3, limited storage, and over priced. bang for the buck, i have to agree with the tracker. hard to beat that merc. package and affordability. alumaweld are probably the overall best built, but very limited selection.

use about a 2 ft piece of weedeater line, and feed it up the pee hole, don't force it. this will unclog the hole in most cases.

i see what you're getting at. do keep in mind, that most motherlode lakes rarely have a ranger in the station. i fished at mcclure probably close to 50 times last yr, and only saw a ranger at the gate maybe 5 times. have NEVER seen a ranger in the station at melones or new hogan. that's what i'm wor...

Re: Another possible concept.....rough outline...EVEN BETTER
i posted earlier about the gps tracker. the bar code won't work because of all of the potential launch areas that do not have stations. there are quite a few areas that have the self pay thing setup. the barcode would require all of these stations be manned, at a cost. not knowing for sure where the...

Re: We're still in this fight, guys...
the steering wheel idea is not very solid. what stops someone from launching and using the trolling motor all day? i doubt that would be the case for most, but i'm sure the question will be raised. fixing the boat to the trailer seems the most logical way. if anyone wants to launch with the trailer....

obviously, none of us like to pay fees of any kind. i don't have a problem to pay a few bucks to launch or use facilities. if the money goes back into the lake and it's upkeep, as long as it is a reasonable fee, i'm all for it!

don't know of any shops nearby, but have a friend that found a neat product called alumaloy. had an old tracker boat that had rubbed a hole in it, banging on the dock all season. he gave it a shot, and said it works great. worth a shot. www. alumaloy.net. claims you can do instant repairs with only ...
