Biologists from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Inland Fisheries office in Wichita Falls recently completed electrofishing and gillnet surveys on Possum Kingdom Reservoir, finding striped bass populations to be at their highest in 14 years.

Annual Young-of-Year Survey Tracks Spawning of State FishResults of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources 2017 young-of-year striped bass survey in the Chesapeake Bay shows the fish is reproducing in strong numbers. The annual survey's index is 13.2 fish, above the 64-year average of 11.7.

Swimbaiting for Stripers with a Forrest Wood Cup champion
Anthony Gagliardi, the 2014 Forrest Wood Cup champion, makes his living as a professional bass angler on the FLW Tour and he is great at it. He’s a Forrest Wood Cup champion and has many more accomplishments, but when the season is over he spends time fishing for stripers. Lake Murray near his home is an excellent striper lake and it usually lines up perfectly for him in the offseason.

Hi All, Looks like it’s time to kick off a new season of fishing. For some of us in California, that may be on hold due to the high water levels. We are excited to see the fishing trips and tournaments resume in areas that have been affected. I would like to congratulate the Wild West Bass Trail for their record attendance 181 boat draw at their Shasta event and to Best Bass Tournaments for their 128 boat draw at their Northern Region opener at Berryessa. Like longtime WesternBass viewer Jeff Huth said – I think we are safe to say that the fisherman in and around NorCal are ready to fish!!! And, how exciting is to watch – what seems to be an endless supply – of world record-sized spotted bass be caught and sent in to IGFA for certification. Who knows where the next one will come from, what it will weigh and who will catch it – could it be you? Lastly, I want to share my thoughts and prayers with those, such as the Clear Lake, Oroville and Delta residents, that are facing uncertainty and loss due to flooding and evacuations that have occurred because of the rains.

21-Pound Striper From Lake Pleasant
David Campbell of Peoria, Ariz. caught a 21-pound striper at Lake Pleasant on a Kastmaster. The first head shake gave it away. This wasn't a log or boulder David Campbell had hooked Thursday afternoon. Whatever gulped his 1-ounce Kastmaster spoon at Lake Pleasant was alive.
