I heard in one Pro Am he done about 35 mph to his first spot. Absolutely in no hurry. His first spot was some place on the delta that had a wall on it and on the other side was his buddy with a bunch of nice fish. I would use straight braid. Fish don't notice line especially when they're buried in the salad. I've thrown senkos on straight braid next to tule edges and watched fish follow them straight to the bottom. All they focused on was the senko.

You may want to stay away from the Curado "DC" with the new braking technology. A friend has one and he can't pitch at all with it. He never really could pitch anyways but with that real it seemed worse.

There's a lot of good reels out there so whatever brand you prefer. I haven't had much luck with sub $80 reels. I've been using Daiwa Tatula's the last 4-5 years and they have held up great. I pitch drop shots and toss senkos on em with 15# line and they do great.

On my 03 520 my top cap sits on top of the transom and its flush with the back of it. Looks like you have at least a 1" gap. No bueno. Maybe someone with good insurance will rear end you on the way to the fiberglass shop.
