Report: Fished WCB Hot August Night tournament with Wayne Howenstine. We really had one o those dream nights. And most o the credit goes to my partner Wayne. He located those ishand I was ortunate enough to be able to come along and help catch 'em. We had a very good night, we executed well and did notmake any mistakes, not did we lose or miss any ish, other than a couple o missed worm bites. Many o our ish came right a dusk andat irst light in the morning and indeed they really did come on jitterbugs, black and red & black. Wayne caught our big ish, a 9.12 on ared and black zipper type hand pour and we also caught quite a ew ish on a red shad 7" Toledo Tickler worm rom ReAction Lures. We started out the evening with a couple ish on Senkos and then the topwater kicked in and we had a limit and culled one by about9:30. We then moved around some and caught another keeper that didn't help. We ished a couple areas where the wind was reallykicking and that deinitely made things tough. Fortunately or us our prime area was somewhat sheltered. We weighed in 19.21 at theirst weigh-in and I think we were in 2nd place ater that. Started out the 2nd hal with a 5.5 on the Tickler and then had a long dry spelland battled the wind some more, then moved into a more sheltered area where we quickly inished out a limit on worms, but 3 wereairly small. The Limit ish was completely blind and probably weighed 7+ in it's hay day, but was only just under 5 now. Then Waynestuck the big ish. Then about 5:30, just as the sky started to show signs o daylight the topwater bite kicked in again and we were ableto cull out all o our small ish. We actually culled a couple 4+ ish and and the last ish we caught which I would estimate to be close to4.5 we realized would not help us! We very nearly had that dream goal o 5 bags at the weigh-in, but settled or 4. Our morning weightwas 29.77 and we just edged out Jim and John by .25 All in all it was a night I will remember or a long time. I really want to thank Wayne or inviting me to join him, we worked very welltogether as a team and each had the other running or the net. I also want to thank West Coast Bass or putting on the tournament. There are not many sanctioned night tournaments and I sure do lenjoy ishing them even i these all night deals are a bit o an Iron Man! Maybe we can get Red Bull to sponsor a night circuit! Also wantto thank the Clear Lake volunteer patrol or looking ater our stu while we were ishing.
      City: Marysville

Tips: Topwater, jitterbugs and buzzbaits at last and irst light. Ribbed type worms such as ReAction Lures Toledo Tickler in blacks with red or junebug. Fish near deepwater, but try shallow.

Report: Well, I was worried the cooler weather would slow down the bite. We tried topwater a lot Tues and Wed evening - not even a roll. But everything else was ine!! We caught 11 on Tues and 15 on Wed - 21 1/4 and 25 1/2 lb. ive ish limits. I don't know what is happening to me, but the jigman is turning into a spinnerbaitman!! I had more un with spinnerbaits the last two nights than ever beore. However, the ish were averaging only 3 to 3 1/2 lbs. I inally got a 6-7 on one at 4 am last night. I am using the night 1/2 black Terminator with a 5" #136 Yamamoto grub trailer. I don't know i they have always worked that well, or i I am just getting with the program! As I have mentioned previously, I am doing very well or large ish on white Terminators during the day - over rockpiles. The bigger ish are still coming on Weapon jigs/Yamamoto grubs (a 7-3) last night, and 10" Power Worms and Big Dipper Magic worms (6"). Spinnerbait ish are running smaller at night - at least during the cooler nights. Maybe because o the cool o, there has been no night "bite", just "pressure". That may change by this weekend as it warms back up. I have been ishing all over the lake rom the narrows south, and have ound the ish near rock and tule edges, especially i they are next to rock. We did get some deep (25 t) ish to bite Tues night - client got a 6-3 and I got a 5-3 back to back. South end (Jensen) was a disappointment - didn't do well in that area. Good luck to all who are ishing the tournament! Out o respect to all my riends ishing the event, I won't be speciic about certain areas in this report.

Tips: I still say to ish slow or the bigger ish. Look or shadows. Do try crankbaits and spinnerbaits or numbers.

Report: Never really got a pattern going and had to work hard to get some ish. Got one spook ish each morning in Nice, but they were small (about 2#s). They came o brush in about 3-5 eet o water. Caught 2 ish out o Horseshoe bend one lipping a jig to tules and the other was a 5# that hit a blade I was working through a weed bed (Should have been using a rog). I had another ish about 3.5# hit a jig I was working slowly on Shag Rock in about 15 eet o water. I never did get a bite on a buzz bait. Did have 1 or 2 cranking tules with a craw colored crank bait.
      City: Brentwood

Tips: Frog bite seemed to be picking up as the weekend progressed. Fish seemed to be well ed and only having to become active or brie periods to get their share o ood. I would agree with Cooch that you may need to trigger a response rom the ish.

Report: First midday trip in some time or me. Got an early start as I started ishing with my twin 9 year old daughters at 11 am! Cranked a 1.7 lb crappie irst thing. Figured ish might be hanging under docks so I headed to my best dock on the lake with a 6" worm on a darthead....nada! Fished about 300 yards o deep docks and got irst bite 150 yards through the set. Set the hook and it took o. My daughter reeled it up and screamed when it broke water. The darthead was not even visible in the ishes mouth. The thing looked between 8 and 9 lbs. As I went to grab it, out comes the hook and ethyl swims o. I I would only have ought it mysel....... I elt good giving my kid a chance though. 150 yards and 10 docks later, bite #2. Set hook and it takes o or deeper water. Hmmmmmm....Dad needs to see how big this one is. Both girls scream when ethyl #2 breaks the water. She goes 6.0. I was happy as a stuck pig! Ran to some other deep docks. Threw a 1/4 oz rodstrainer jig on a piling in 20 t. Feel pressure, and other daughter reels up a 3.4lb. I had 2 other jig bites on steep bank here but came up empty on the set?????? Wheeler PT yielded 2 more empty bites....still dont understand what happened. I dont catch many small ish on these jigs here. Head to my secret lippin hole and bang another 3.4, 2.3, 2.3 and a 2.0. Dump 2 more about 2 lbs on brushog in heavy cover. Let @ 6:30 pm w/ best 5 going 17.4 lbs. Very enjoyable day w/ little i any boat traic on a Monday!
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Purple ghost 6" and brushog. I saw 3 ish eat brushog in willows and caught all 3.

Report: Preished on Saturday then ished ABA teams on Sunday, solo. Caught some ish around tules and the ends o docksusing watermelon Senkos in size 9. Saturday boated 2 bass, but elt several ish, and didn't set the hook (purposely)On Sunday, caught only 5 bass or 11.41 pounds. Most omy ish were caught o Long Tule Point. The water clarity was about 1 oot. Pitched the senko, let it all to the bottom, twitched it a couple times then reeled up.It takes time to do all this along the bank and go over it, again and again, but it was the only pattern I had.
      City: Lincoln

Tips: Fish are at the start o the post spawn blues. Look or deeper water patterns. Dock ends, rom what I hear, are starting to produce quality ish.

I also caught a couple carolina rigged ish each day while the sun was low.(Brush hogs.)There are still ish roaming, and several on beds in the south. It didn't get pounded this weekend by the other tourneys.I think they mostly stayed in the north. Report: I am sorry to carry this on but I just have a couple things to say! I live in San Jose and travel to Clear Lake atleast 10 times a year. It in my mind it is the toughest lake or me to get a handle on. I was just out there about a month ago with a buddy o mine and had a terrible time. I ished Friday night, all day Saturday and hal way through Sunday! Guess how many ish I caught? 0. My buddy caught one dink! My truck was also keyed at the hotel. So I told mysel never again like I always do but I will return. 6 months ago I went out and caught 5 ish. 2 around 7lbs. 1 6lbs, 1 5lb and a dink. It's times like this that keep bringing you back. I have a 4 day trip planned in August, which will be in the heat o Summer! Dreading it but I will do it. Do what I do and keep these reports in the back o your mind and i your strategy does not pay out give them a try. Mike

Report: This also is not a report, but a response to Mr. Mario Kelsay. I agree with George, you might have had better luck i you had read the reports contained in this ormat. In addition, you might not be aware that BASS just held their West Coast Tournament at Clear Lake and recorded their heaviest weight in tournament history. Be assured that Clear Lake IS one o Caliornia's premier bass lakes, and it is well known or it's large ish. No matter which lake you go to, no matter what the reports say, and no matter what other inormation you as a isherman may have, remember, bass change their minds about everything aster and more otenr than our wives or girlriends do. Also each lake ishes dierent rom other lakes, and each lake will ish dierent each time you visit it. Possibly anyone o the basic things which eect bass behavior, changed since any o the reports you read were written. Don't damn a lake ater your irst visit.
      City: San Jose

Tips: Become more secure in your bass ishing knowledge and then return to Clear Lake at least one more time.

Report: Fishing is good. I caught 20 bass 2-6 lbs. I caught most o them on brush hogs, and lizards carolina rigged. They were mostly in 4-12 t. o water. Anyway, there's this website called Alladvantage.com This website pays you 50 cents an hour when your on the internet. You don't have to buy anything, and it does add up. It's worth a try. How it works is they put an advertisement on the bottom o the screen o your computer. Just go there and see what it's about. You have to sign up and download a view bar. The view bar has the advertisements on it. just ollow the instructions at the site. I you do decide to sign up tipe in the id# when you do Ewc-804 this way you can make a little more money.

Report: American Bass Anglers Club Launched 6 boats rom Library Park.Sat. the wind laid down and made or a nice day I picked upone ish cranking and one ish lipping in trees, or this two day team tourn. irst day winning wieght was 17 plus or 5 ish with a couple o 7 lb ish comming to the scales.Fish were caught staging with crankbaits and jigs.Day two ish were caught at the south end o the lake on "Yamamoto" Senkos (5") and split shotting Day two weight was over 20 lbs.On sunday at noon I went to rocky point and there were ish all over it, I got to show my 12 yr old son how to bed ish or the irst time and he came close to catching a 5lber but the ish spit the hook on him once and spit the hook on me twice, we had him comming to the boat and the lure popped out Hmmmmm?
      City: Martinez

Tips: Ater a settled day on the lake the ish moved up. the only lure to trigger our bed ish to bite was a manns jelly tubein melon pepper green. The ish came and just looked at the bait but once the tube was jigged or popped right in ront o it, it triggered a strike, use a bigger hook so you dont miss em.Good LuckProcrat Pete & Vince
