Rip... are you just now realizing that giants are gone? Biggest bass I know of caught was a 10.5lber in Spring on a swimmer. Sadly, that is it for DD's. Wonbass puts 5-6lbers as big bass weekly as whopper of the week.

Craziest thing I've seen was years back at Casitas, same situation. Couldn't see but 50yds either way in the fog so we decided to stay close to the ramp(rockpile) and fish. I have used the HDS 8 Gen 2 for over a year now it's a great unit... but recently upgraded to the touch systems and they FLY! I love the touches as it's super fast to navigate the screens and set waypoints and more.

I broke an awful slump last winter when I hit a skunk driving on a winding road... after that I got onto the fish!
I also like to switch it up and hit the saltwater and pull on some fish out there.... seems to get the mind settled and relaxed.

I fish my chatterbaits in the weights described on the IROD Swin Jig/ Bladed Jig rod. it's a great rod for both applications. $149 is a steal! look into one for sure.

As far as times of year to use them, the pre-spawn can yield some pretty epic days. Just this year on March 1st I won a derby with just shy of 24lbs fishing jerkbaits ONLY(Megabass Ito 110). I swim in the ocean on occasion and I know the risks involved in it... luckily the areas I swim have VERY few sightings if any. I'd not be stupid to swim in Manhattan Beach areas or anything north of Pt Coneption. I'd rather NOT be floating shark teaser!

Not sure how it is these days but I went in 2008 and it was EPIC! 150-200 fish days with fish up to 9lbs. Sadly, no GIANTS, but the sheer numbers was insane.M3AN Bass wrote:El Salto for sure!

I fish the 7" bait a TON. I prefer to use the gamakatsu wide gap finesse wacky hook in 6/0 size. it gets the job done very well. if rigging texas the GAMA EWG 5/0 is money too!

So Cal Lakes are drying up!!! Casitas still has water trickling in from the mountains but the lake is coming down a LOT each week. Unless this el nino really does come we may not have much to fish in a year!!!

in the last two years I've ventured to many BIG bass lakes and all have been a lot of fun... granted I need to break 15.25lbs to get a new PB, but of those lakes the one I have found with the BEST potential for giants is Lake Isabella. I fished it once and got a 11.4lber.

respect seems to have died off these days. I've seen tournament guys to guides to local weekend warriors jumping people's spots who have done very well in tournaments. from what I have gathered is that there was only going to be 3 team circuits this year. Casitas, So Cal and Delta but I heard that Delta isn't running anymore? Not 100% sure though.

Time of year makes a difference and bait in the area also! I know there are times when you wait it out and can pay off. I won a derby two weeks ago by sitting on a spot all day.
