Water Temp: 80
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: The Basin Bassmasters out of Loomis did their two back to back tournaments on Friday night and Saturday morning. The first weigh in big bag was over 21 lbs. The second weigh in was almost the same. Most of the anglers got there fish on jigs in black/blue, crankin, large brush hogs in June Bug, pop r's and frogs.
City: RocklinTips: Look for deep water next to the banks was the big clue for that night.

Water Temp: 75-78
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: We started nice and early excited about some top water bites. A typical day at Clear Lake as we got on the water it was 20plus mph winds and the lake was swelling like the San francisco bay. We staeyd in the south and fished pockets just off the main lake protected from the wind. We threw several top water baits and only had 2 hit the frog. I switched to a fluke and missed one and caught 2 quickly on a windy point. We moved to the next pocket sure we would locate a top water bite and nada they just werent interested for us today. We moved to the nearest windy point and missed 2 and caught 2 deep on jigs. I was missing alot of fish on the brush hawg as they would just kinda swim with it and never gulp it down as many times they took half the hawg or jigs tails with them. We started to move around a bit more but the wind was nasty and the lake was rough we kept cathing 1-2 fish in a area and missing some short biters as well. We did catch a few crank bait fish as well in a shad color. Fish seemed to be on points and or ledges and were all under 3lbs the frog bite never happend on this day. We did catch a fair number of fish but it was slow over all and no big fish at all. We spoke toseveral other boats and none of them caught even 1 quality fish on this day.
I would say these fish are feeding at night now and your window for better fish will happen at night.
City: elk groveTips: Just go have fun dont expect a big one right now just because its clear lake. Fish deep for bites with jigs and smaller plastics. Points and edges of weed flats as well as ledges. Crank if you need to get bit!

Water Temp: 78-85
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Redwood Empire Bass Club held a 2 weigh-in team night tournament at Clearlake July 19 & 20 launching out of Red Bud. We had 12 teams in the event. First place had 39.65lbs, 2nd place 25.74lbs and 3rd was 33.10lbs. A lot of fish were caught but not the quantity of big girls like last year where it took nearly 57lbs to win and over 41lbs for 3rd. Heard the frog bite was working for some as the sun was setting. Most fish were caught on jigs and brush hogs. Big fish was 7.40 and 2nd big fish was 6.99. One half of the first place team was a new members first tournament!
City: Santa RosaTips: Tips: The better bite was until sunset, again from 2:30-3:30AM and then at sunrise. The next tournament for the Redwood Empire Bass Club will another 2 weigh-in team at night at Clear Lake August 16th & 17th launching out of Lakeport. The signups will be at the next meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. on August 13th at the Rohnert Park Community Center at the corner of Rohnert Park Expressway and Snyder Lane. Shaver Lake
-
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Well the kokanee were NOT put there to feed other fish. They were planted as a game fish. Besides, the only time they would be esspecially vulnerable to predation in this lake (where even the trout are on average 13 inch planter class fish) would be when they are planted as 4 inch fingerlings. If you have spent much time fishing this lake in the last few years (esspecially this year), the average kokanee has been larger than the average trout.
City: KokaneevilleTips: 14-17 inch kokanee on anything pink or orange (hoochies, kokanee candy, needlefish, wedding rings) and silver slingblades with silver tape. Also red on silver blade. If they arent biting and you know you're in the right depth zone, try using a longer leader (5-6ft.) Fish moving down to 45-65 feet.

Tenmile Lake

Water Temp: warm
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Only went to Cottage Grove twice this week but both days were good. On the 23rd I got a 17" and a 19" that went 2 lb,7oz and 3 lb,7oz on the jig/beaver. On the 25th I got a 3 lb,9oz and a 3 lb,3oz that were 20" and 18". These also hit the jig/beaver. Without looking through my log books for the last 10 years I'd have to say that July 2008 has been my best month ever. I've maybe had months where I've caught more fish as far as numbers but no where near the quality of the fish this lake has kicked out. The month started with a bang and I hope it goes out with an even bigger one! I should have a good post in a couple of days- I'm going out all day Sunday with my old tournament partner. Last year he came up and we really stunk up the joint- I couldn't get us onto anything. Don't think we'll have that problem this time. We'll fish half the day at Cottage Grove and half the day at Dorena.
City: yoncalla, oregonTips: Again- have your gear ready! I barely got the 3.9 to shore the other day! She buried me up in some shallow weeds and I had to keep pressure on her. When she shook her head I was able to pop her up and slide her the last 10 feet to me. I need to go buy another pair of rubber boots so if it happens again I can wade out and get 'em. I know that using 30 lb. braid and a 20 lb. leader costs me a few bites but it also saves me some heartbreak. 19 bass for 59 lbs,6 oz = One happy bassnbob! See ya out there!! Can't wait for August.

Clear Lake

Report: OOPS! - 2nd place for the previous tourney was 35.74lbs, not 25.74lbs
City: Santa Rosa -
Water Temp: 79-81
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: A friend of mine and I decided to check on the night bite at Clear Lake and found it to be in good shape. We started about 6:30 pm and fished 'til 2 am. The bite was good at nearly every spot and was best after 11 pm. Finding large bass was a problem however, with our biggest bass at only 4 lbs 6 oz and our 5 best didn't reach 20 lbs - almost!! The amount of 3 to 3 1/2 pounders was amazing - last night was their night! We caught around 60 bass, maybe 70 - great fun!! We fished where the wind would let us - it was a problem but not too bad.
City: Yuba cityTips: The bass do seem to be moving to summer areas - at least in the central and south areas of the lake. I haven't been north lately. We found bass down to nearly 30 feet and ledges were good before dark. For example, the Sea Breeze area has been disappointing compared to last year. Last night (actually this morning!) there were lots of bass there and they were active! Between day and night trips I have noticed that there are very shallow bass and very deep bass which are good quality (again, I'm not talking about the north end). The 2 and 3 pounders seem to be at the typical depths - 10 to 15 feet. I was pleased to land several 3 1/2 pounders on brown/orange Rodstrainer jigs. I think the jig bite is pretty good for summertime. Senkos again were a good bait but they didn't seem to inhale them as in previous trips. At night, the jig and brush hog bite was better than the worm bite for some reason - maybe because bass are keying on craws. We threw topwater and buzz baits around Buckingham - no takers! I hooked a good bass there at dusk on a Rapala DT-16 that I was trying out and it broke at the bill. First time for me - I was not a happy camper! Weird to reel in a plastic lip!!! So, beware!

Shadow Cliffs Lake

Water Temp: 77-78
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I had my fishfinder on my tube ready to go, so I started out in Island Pond offshore. No structure whats-so-ever and the whole middle area of the pond averages from 18-22ft, and it is flat, no rock piles or trees. So no luck with the deep crankbait. I started seeing fish on top so I threw a spook, and about 10 feet from my tube a 3-4lber. hit-and-missed my spook. My buddy missed three on the frog. I then threw out the dropshot and nabbed a 2lber. off a submerged tree near the shoreline. Afterwards, we headed to the main lake to look for more structure. Well same story and I found no offshore structure in the northern half of the lake.
City: pleasantonTips: I haven't found any structure offshore YET, but there has to be a rock pile or two somewhere out there, heck it used to be a rock quarry.
