Beating the Heat

This past week or so has been extremely hot for our region. Temperatures around 100 are not normal and when it gets to 104, 105 and 106...that is very unusual. I still made it out a few times and the fishing was great. My last trip was to Newman Lake, a small lake outside of Spokane and I boated a 2...

Re: will rainbows eat bass fry?

We can't keep trout off of our hooks when we use crankbaits, jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, small swimbaits, senkos, and the worst is drop-shot. We catch them on everything...you name it. They will eat anything moving and I'm sure that includes bass fry.

Summer night fishing is my favorite time to fish. Get to the lake around 5-6 and fish til 1-2am and call it good. Cool, quite and usually some good fish. It has been pretty dang hot around here lately and one of my favorite ways to beat the heat is to go night fishing. A few weeks ago the Spokane Bass Club held a tournament on the Pend Oreille River in Idaho. The Navionics mapping on the water was not very good and there are not even paper maps available. We saw the need to improve the mapping so seven of the boaters decided to record sonar logs while they were fi...

Frog fishing has always been one of my favorite ways to catch them. Really, who doesn't like a frog? Lake Coeur d'Alene in northern Idaho is one of the best fisheries in the west and every time I go I know that a giant is possible. What do you consider a big fish? I know it depends on where you live and also your skill and experience, but for me, a four-pound smallmouth is a good one and a five plus is a big one. I'd say for largemouth, one over five is a good one and six plus is a big one. I made it out to Long Lake again yes...

Should we fish for largemouth or smallmouth? That is always the question we have to decide when fishing the Long Lake Classic every year. It is a max of 150 feet down or 50 feet high. I have used this in one instance where it was a lake that was 84-feet down and it worked great.
