Report: Decided to learn the dropshot today. Worked it or 3 hours and maybe one bite. Nothing on a jig either. So back to the split-shot and 4" shad worm. Finally got the ish, all but one ish were 50-60' deep, the lone 'shallow' ish was 25-30' deep. One smallie, rest were blacks - 8 nice keepers total rom 1.5-3 lbs each. Ater that 'bite ' window rom 11-1:00 I never got bit again. Darn this nice weather. Tried shallow but nothing seemed to have moved up but then again thewater is real cold, a big high pressure sitting over us or weeks, lots o sun and very little wind makes or a tough winter bite. Only graphed one o the ish I caught - they must be hugging the bottom...

      Water Temp: 48

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished the annual New Years Day Stockton Bassers Tourny. My partner John Kort and I launched in fog so thick you couldn't see a boat 20 feet in front of you. It took us almost 1 1/2 hours to get to our spot, but we struggled through the soup and finally got there. We had been on a good bite for the past month and were anxious to get fishing. We had a limit by 9:30 and were culling shortly there after. We probably put 35 keepers in the boat with the biggest going 8'1. We ended up with 20.4#'s and took 2nd in the tourny with 2nd big fish. Bobby Barrick and his partner were the eventual winners, so guess it wasn't so bad losing to one of the better Delta fisherman in the state. Almost every fish was caught on reaction baits. We even had three or four doubles on. This is the best winter bite I have ever been on and I think the secret is water clarity. It was amazing to hear how many people struggled that day. I guess we were blessed to be lucky enough to find one of those winter holes. That trip marked the fifth straight trip we had put over 30 fish in the boat with at least a fifteen pound, five fish limit.
      City: Roseville

Tips: Water clarity. It's the only thing I can think of. It has been a winter where the storms have not come until late Feb.

      Water Temp: Bit Chilly

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Only caught a couple of keepers today, used spinnerbaits with willow blades (Persuader). Ran into Tim Venkus and ended up trading fishing stories. Burned up a good part of potential fishing time. Fog finally lifted at about 4:00, not a big day for me.
      City: Rio Vista

Tips: The only fish I caught were in some current and surprisingly shallow. The fish right now look great, and fight hard.

Report: the boat owner(my wie) said lets go so we got in at Jones Valley at 1045AM, air temp 52 and went over to the ort creek coves in the lumberyard, caught 2 out o 35 t o water on Big Daddys special, wie lost one on a jig, ran to Clickapudi, wie lost another one, yeah, I laughed and was struck with the business end o a spinning rod. coasted up to a stump and dropped my rig down or two more, all were about 1.6 lbs, the last one was 2 and little bit. I was always told that hooksets are ree so I got a good pulldown and stuck it H A R D, broke an old Wal Mart special at the reel seat, guess that was a rock, and in goes my abu 6500 c3, ortunately, I got that back, now she's laughing. We go home and I get orders to buy a new rod since I have one in the shop and this busted one. Gotta love this lady! got out at 145 PM, air temp up to 67 very pleasant day. Jones valley very busy, the loat is still messed up! Lake up to 63.25 t and rising slowly, clear down to 15t.

Report: Launched out of River's End marina at about noon after the thick stuff burned off. Fished for at least three hours with nothing. Finally at the bottom of the low tide somebody hit the switch and my friend and I had 12 fish in the boat. The largest was about a 3#. This all happened within an hour to an hour and a half. Go figure. By the way that part of the Delta is the clearest I have seen it in a long time.

Picked up three, 4.5, 3.5 and a 2 pounder. Had several bites but couldn't get em. All on plastic, 10" red shad power worm and senko. Tried cranks, spinners and flipping with no luck. Used the brail system to find Frank's Tract but nadda a darn thing there for me. Fog lifted at 2PM but i had to go.
      City: Sacto

Tips: Used senko, roor beer w/gold flake, and Berkley 10" red shad power worm, all weightless. Tried others with no success. Must of wanted it slow. Bobby B and Chris B won tourny out of Ladds with 22 pounds, anyone heard how and where since they don't post.

Report: Of Course I picked the day the fog refused to leave. We were on the water until 3:30. We had a total of 2 bites for 2 fish. We weren't able to run to any locations as it was that thick out there. We left the break about 8:30 and just put the trolling motor down. It was still good to get out. Did try anchoring down for stripers but only a couple small hits, no fish. I will be out again with the club on 1/13/01. Maybe see you out there.
