Report: BBC has started an EZ Board for a state by state fishing report. Maybe we can try this for awhile since we're having so much trouble getting reports for southern Oregon lakes posted here.

Report: This is not technically a fishing report, but I would like to agree with Dave about more lakes in southern Oregon being represented by Western Bass... I have left several reports on different lakes that I have fished in the area, but have had to use the "Emigrant" page to leave them as there are no alternatives.... I think more people would use and read the report pages if there were lakes like Lost Creek, Applegate, and even Selmac listed here.... I have contacted Western Bass directly about this and recieved a reply that they would be listings for these lakes and others "soon".... Well, fishing season pretty much starts NOW, and I for one would really like to see the lakes in our area represented......

Tips: PLEASE, Western Bass, take a look at all the bassers up here that would like to see some reports on OUR lakes........

Report: Went to Emigrant this morning with a new fishing buddy, and started fishing right away in the willow bushes at the launch ramp... We were intending to fish for bass, but the trout didn't seem to realize that.... On about the fifth cast my new partner slammed into what seemed to be a record bass, but after getting it near enough to the boat, it turned out to be a MONSTER rainbow.... I would guess it would weigh at least six or more pounds, but we will never know for sure, because as I was getting the net I saw his line go limp, and that rotten fish took off with a $17.95 Lucky Craft LV 95 in his jaw.... (MY LURE ! !) The only thing I can figure is that his teeth sawed right through 12lb. braided line!! About three casts later, I hooked into another one (I was hoping that it was the same fish so that I could get my lure back) but this one was a 3 1/2 pounder that went into the live well... My partner says his wife likes trout..... That was about it for the day, we went down into the willows on the west end of the lake, but even though graphing a lot of fish, we couldn't get them to hit anything that we threw... About that time that north wind started to blow, and the air temp dropped at least 15 degrees, and both of us only had on light jackets, so we decided since the fish weren't co-operating anyway, we had had about as much fun as we could stand and ran for the boat dock.....

Tips: Watch for MONSTER trout leaping about three feet in the air....... They put on quite a display this morning........

Report: I would like to see some other southern oregon region lakes like justin. Southern oregon region pretty much consists of northern california too. (the real northern california not the bay area) Lakes like: Selmac, Lost Creek, Howard Prairie, Hyatt, Irongate, Shastina, Gailsville, Cooper creek, Applegate, Agate, Lake of the woods, Shata, etc. Western Bass does a great job covering most of the lakes mentioned.
The problem would be that one would get lost on this website with all the "small lakes in between the more popular lakes. Maybe there could be a regional report page to list all the lakes not mentioned. Southern oregon region extends down to Redding California up to Cottage Grove Oregon. Irongate,in California is probably the most popular lake in southern oregon region. Oh, went there yesterday caught two good ones (3-4lbs.) on jigs off outhouse point. Only fished for about 2 hours and spent the rest of the day spending time with my fiance' (DAMAGE CONTROL):)
Nice day. Do you think people would post enough reports to warrant more lakes, ponds or region? Seems like that is hard to come by in oregon. I posted on tahkenitch last weekend and I found only a few postings in the last two years or so. (I know a lot of people fish it who have access to a computer) Maybe it's the ol' "secret fishin' hole" senario. Heck, people have bigger velcro lips than the fish do!
Talk to you guys later, Duke <'(((><
    City: Medford

Tips: The fish are starting to come on at Irongate... "good ones" for the time being. Try crankin the banks from shallow to 8 foot. Try various colors and styles til one takes it then stick with that crank. Oh, fish it like a rip bait, pausing then ripping etc. When the waters up, key in on any wood touching water and pitch jigs/sencos.

    Water Temp: 57

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: First of all, thanks to Justin for the tip on Selmac.. I put in at 10:30 this morning with a completly full parking area, never seen so many rigs on Selmac... Might have had something to do with the weather... I thought there was a tournament going on with all those bass boats.. I went straight across the lake from the launch ramp about 200 yards west of the resort, and started throwing a 4" Senko watermelon/red flake, and on the third cast picked up a 1.4 LM.. Fished everwhere that there wasn't a shore fisherman, and just before the little boat dock picked up the second fish, a clone of the first. Continued on down the shoreline to the bridge, picking up two more clones of the first two.. I think that probably they were all males, and with the water at 57, they might just be scoping out bedding areas... Went back to where I started and fished the same areas a second time, but didn't pick up any more fish. Have a wife in rehab, so I called it a day and was off the water at 12:30....
    City: Williams, OR

Tips: Senkos were working for me, and I never even threw anything else, although maybe I should have on the second pass.... If I had it to do over I probably would have thrown a shallow crank the second time around......

Report: Went to Selmac and water was very clear. I got to the lake a 9am and left at 6pm and the weather was great. I caught only 3 fish but one was just under 5lbs and the others were 13and 14". I had to fish very slow and make long casts because you could see bottom up to 6ft deep.

Tips: Anyone know when they are going to add the other southern oregon lakes to the website???

    Water Temp: 48-53

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Another beautiful day on the lake, only this time I caught a couple of fish... The water temp on the main body of the lake was mostly 48 degrees, but in the coves it was 53.... Caught the first fish (a largemouth) on a shallow Rick Clunn crankbait in white/purple... The next fish (a smallmouth) came on a topwater back in a cove (I wouldn't have even thrown a topwater, but I bought a couple of Lucky Craft Sammys, and I wanted to see how they worked).... Ran into a couple of guys in a Tracker boat, and they said they had caught a LM & a SM too.... Met another guy in a ?Triton? (can't remember) and he said he had been throwing everything at them with no sucess..... It was a SLOW day, with only two bites, but better than I have been doing lately... Any day on the water is a GOOD day...

    Water Temp: 40-48

Report: Well, here we go again, this time it was Lost Creek.. My grandson and his father-in-law and I went upriver thinking that we could find some smallies in the big boulders up there, but all we found was cold water... Fished all the way up until snow on the ground decided us to go back out to the main part of the lake... We went to the little cove directly across from the main boat launch, and found 48 degree water, but no fish... Didn't even see any on either graph... We threw jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, worms, splitshotted, and dropshotted, but had only one "maybe" bite.... Can't wait until the water warms up some and I can leave my sweater at home.... Did have a BEAUTIFUL day on the lake though, the air temp was probably in the middle 60's, and it felt like late spring...... Beginning to wonder if I've forgotten how to catch bass though, it's been a long winter......

    Report: APPLEGATE LAKE
This was my first time out here so I took my fiance along. We fished submerged humps, ledges, and dropoffs next to the dam. Also stump beds and rock structures near Copper Ramp. Only fished the northern half of the lake today cranking spinner baits as slow as we could and used tubes, worms, and senkos but had no luck.
Tried the same presentations at Selmac yesterday but had the same results.

Report: Rod, I was just curious when western bass was going to add those lakes to the website? Hope it is soon cause I'm getting ready to start fishing Lost Creek and Selmac this spring, and I would like to have a place to check on those lakes.

Report: Well, here is a report on Applegate Resevoir which I'm submitting here until Western Bass posts our southern Oregon lakes.... My grandson and I couldn't pass up a pretty day like it was today, so off to Applegate we went.... Haven't fished it since last year, but thought we would give it a try... First thing we found out is how low the water level is..... French gulch is the only ramp in the water (Hart-Tish park hasn't opened yet, and Copper is WAY out of the water) and it is a L O N G way down the ramp at French gulch.... We launched with no problems though and started fishing as soon as we got in the water... Fished the steep banks, old roadbeds, some brush we found, and then went up to the end (as far as we could go with low water) of Squaw Creek arm.... Graphed a lot of fish, and fished from 10 feet to 50 feet of water, and coulcn't seem to interest them in anything that we threw... Maybe I've lost my touch over the winter?????? Well, next month Clearlake, and if that doesn't work, does anybody want to buy a Stratos????
    City: Williams Oregon

Tips: Water temperature is still pretty low, maybe they will turn on in a few weeks....... Going to go to Lost Creek this week, maybe we can fool some of the young dumb smallies up the river.......

Report: I went to Emigrant for a few hours today(on the water at 12 and off at 3) the wind was howling so left early. Caught 1 smallmouth in 10 ft of water on a small ledge. This 2 1/2 pounder was the biggest at emigrant so far this year. The fish came on a pumpkin tube.

Tips: Wait till the water temp rises another 5 degrees. Water level is steadily rising. DRESS WARM!!!!

    Water Temp: 46-47

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Well, Western Bass has told me that they will soon be providing info pages for other southern Oregon lakes such as Lost Creek, Applegate, etc. but until they do, here is a report on Lake Selmac for anyone interested.... Got on the lake around two in the afternoon with a slight breeze and showers.... Figured this would be perfect for an afternoon of fishing.... Right away saw a guy in a Ranger boat fishing the stumps on the northwest end of the lake, and of course putted right over to ask how he was doing... He said he had been there since early morning, and hadn't touched a fish... Yuck ! ! I went over to the shoreline that approaches the dam, and fished fron the docks all the way to the dam without a bump.. Tried Sassy Shads, jigs, cranks, and swimbaits, but nada.. Even I can get the message, so I put the boat on the trailer and went to Selma for some coffee to warm my old bones... Water temp was 46-47 everywhere that I checked, so it might still be a little chilly for the fish, I know it was for me..... Oh well, next time ! !

    Water Temp: 42-44

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I got on the water at 2:30pm and off at 5:00pm. I did catch 1 dink smallmouth and a handfull of perch on a dropshot rig. All the fish came off of a point on the main lake 35-50ft deep. The lake is up quite a bit from the last time I went out. I found willows in as much as 5-10ft of water in one spot.
    City: central point

Tips: fish dropshots slow and you may be lucky enough to find a smallmouth mixed in with all of those perch. Anyone who just wants to catch a few perch, just fish a dropshot rig with 3 inch worm. There are tons of them in 40-50 ft on points.

    Water Temp: 42

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Took my grandson to Emigrant mostly to try out my new-to-me bass boat.. Put in at main ramp at about 1 p.m. under bright sunshin and NO wind, rare for Emigrant.. Fished the main arm, graphing fish on every point that we came to, all in 35-50 feet, but no takers.. Threw jigs, sassy shads, rattle traps, and spoons at them, but only had what may have been a pick-up in about 50 feet of water.. Off the water at 4:30, and even though no fish, a great time was had by both of us, and I found out what I wanted to know about the boat before going down to Clearlake later this month...
    City: Williams, Oregon

Tips: Water temp was 42-43 degrees everywhere that we went on the lake, and the air temp was also 42 all afternoon, but felt much warmer in the sun... Three of four more weeks with reasonable weather, and this lake should turn on again.....

    Water Temp: 42-44 deg.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I went to Emmigrant today just to run the boat before I go to Shasta this weekend. I got on the water at 2pm and off the water at 4pm. I graphed a lot of fish at 50-57 feet so I fished a green pumpkin zipper worm (4 inch)on a drop shot rig, and couldn't keep the yellow perch of my line. Unfortunately I couldnt bring up anything else to say whether there were any bass mixed in with them. Sorry I dont have anything better to report, but i thought i'd better report something since the last two guys were disappointed with the number of reports.
    City: central point

Tips: Talk the oregon fish and wildlife into stocking shasta lake spotted bass into one or more of these deep southern oregon reservoirs, then we could have something to do in the winter.

Report: Well, I see that Sean has been here too, and I whole heartedly agree with him that I wish more Oregon bass fishermen would submit reports on these pages.... I live near Medford, and fish the coatal lakes, northren and central California (Trinity, Shasta, and Clearlake) as well as drift the Umpqua for smallies when I get the chance..... The northern California guys submit a lot of reports, and that sometimes decides me on where I want to spend my gasoline money.... I wish more Oregon bassers would do the same ! ! ! Tight lines, and let's share our info ! ! !
