Report: What happened to the water in Cottage Grove? I was on vacation in California for 10 days and I couldn't believe how far it had dropped. It reminded me a lot of the lakes I fished during the late 90's in California- during a pretty tough drought. It's kinda fun getting to see all the areas I've got good bass from. My best spot all late spring and through the summer was actually nothing more than a 2' tall- 5' round hump along a gentle sloping bank. No stumps, big rocks or giant wall of weeds- just that little hump. Three bass between 3.5 and 4 lbs. came off that spot. I found a really nice lookig stump field that I'll have to use the kayak on. Looks like the perfect area to fish my favorite lure- the jig and any piece of plastic behind it. I'm hoping to get out a few times before winter really sets in even if I have to use the kayak. Both ramp at Cottage Grove are pretty much done. If you have a 4 wheeler to pull your trailer out of the mud at the bottom of the ramp you'll be fine. Good luck and man I can't wait 'till next spring. Oh yeah- I drop shotted a bit but got no bites.

Report: What a long drive for only a few fish, but the fish we caught were sweet. My son had a real nice 2+ on his 3rd cast on a crankbait fishing a large weed edge. But most of the fish we caught were by fishing slow. The weather was awesome and we had a great time at a very beautiful lake. Good luck and safe fishing

Report: Took my brother in law out to Cottage Grove for a morning of fishing. Fished from 6-10:30 AM. Got a 13", 1lb.5oz. on a brown jig out about 14' on a deep weed edge @8AM. At 9:40AM I got a 21" 3lb,14 oz. on the same brown jig near a deep piece of wood. Tried to get the swimbait bite going but the bass wouldn't cooperate! I let him toss any lure he wanted- after the 3-14 he wanted a jig- but he couldn't stick a fish. Just before the 1-5 I got a hard bite and snapped what I'm assuming was a decent fish off on the hookset! Odd thing was it didn't jump and thrash around- if I had a jig stuck in my mouth I sure would. We also used rattletraps ticked off the top of the weeds, a deep little N chartreuse crank, a small swimbait, a white spinnerbait, at least 3 different soft plastics and the winner lure of this day the brown pig and jig.

Tips: Get out and go. Sure there's yardwork that needs to be done and the cars could stand washing but they'll still be there when you get done FISHING!!
So go- tell your wife or girlfriend I said it's okay.

Report: Sean and Dave are absolutely right- hardly anyone is using this great website here in Oregon. I can understand if you're fishing tournaments and don't want to let the competition in on your secrets but what's wrong with sharing a tip or two or bragging a little bit if you have a great day. I can also understand that most of us would rather be fishing than punching buttons on a computer. With gas like it is who wants to drive an hour or two to a lake that's not exactly putting out a few bass? All I'm saying is it's okay to share a little info without giving GPS coordinates to your favorite honeyhole. You don't have to say what you caught 'em on but saying a worm, a jig or a crankbait isn't taking away the fun of figuring out which exact bait will work. On those nasty rainy days it at the least makes for some fun reading! Get out there and fish and if you have kids teach them to fish too. I can't wait to watch my 3 yr. old girl teach her little brother to cast in a few years. Good luck to all.

    Water Temp: 69-72???

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Decided to try a new spot at Cottage Grove Lake today and I'm glad I did! Tossed my favorite swimbait for about 15 minutes with no bites and no visible followers. Then I saw a little grass point just barely reachable from the shore where I was tossin' from so I lobbed the bait over. Two spins of the reel handle and wham- fish on. Didn't jump or splash just pulled....hard. I honestly thought it was a 5 LB. plus fish. It was actually only a 3lb., 8 oz. largemouth 19" long. Idid the weigh and measure routine and then let her go. I grabbed my rod and casted back to within a foot of the spot and after 2 turns another one grabs the swimbait. This one felt stronger than the first one- I'm pretty happy now. This one was only 18" but weighed a chunky 3lbs. and 13 ozs. Again no wild leaps or a lot of splashing- just a good test of my uni to uni knot tying ability. Glad I just tied on a new 5' leader before I left for work. What a great way to start the work day. Oh yeah- I made 3 more just in case casts to the same rough area and got a hard bite but swung late.
    City: yoncalla, oregon

Tips: The weather was what I'd call almost perfect swimbait weather- overcast with a bit of chop. And the evenings have been fairly warm. The 2nd fish was loaded with eggs- and I thought the spawn was all over- shame on me for assuming! Good luck and don't forget that those nice big ones love to eat little trout for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Good Luck!

    Water Temp: less than 60!

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished a small cove today at Cottage Grove with a bobber and crawlers. My 3 yr. old got her first fish ever- actually she caught 4. A 4", a 5", a 6" and then another 4" bluegill. I don't know who was more excited- Daddy or the kid. She wanted to do it all.Pick out the right crawler, take the hook out with the pliers and of course take a picture of Dad holding up one of her fish (At least it was the bigger one!). I'm pretty sure she's hooked on fishing now. She almost got her first bass today too. A 2 pounder followed her 1 1/2" black grub all the way up until he saw us.
I've been going to Dorena or Cottage Grove about every other morning on my way to work and I am amazed at the amount of fish I'm not catching. I'm seeing a few here and there and getting a few senko and creature bait bites but I guess until we get a week of good hot weather the spawn/sight fishing deal is just not happening. My daughter will go nuts when she sees a nice 5 pounder mouth but not eat her bait!! Happy fishing and take some kid fishing- you'll be glad you did. Next week we're taking the boat out.

Tips: Hey lets try to get the reports up this next year and get the information out there about Oregon bass fishing and how awsome it really is because I for one like to know how everone else is doing on the water.

    Water Temp: 70-74

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Took my 2 1/2 year old daughter fishing for the first time at a small city park pond in southern california while we were on vacation. She didn't catch a fish but she insisted on reeling it back in every time and she casted with just a little daddy help. She did catch a nice sized branch on her little crappie jig and "sponge a bob" pole. I guess she paid more attention than I thought when we were watching all those fishing shows. Even my photographer (mommy) thought it was pretty cool. As "uncle" Roland always says "That's what it's all about right there!!
    City: yoncalla

Tips: Take your kids fishing..... and leave your rod at home. Although there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a 2 foot long "sponge a bob" pole to make a few casts. With my luck that's when my 10 pounder would hit!

    Water Temp: 64-66.5

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Caught (and released) my first Oregon bass. Took advantage of the free fishing days and went to Dorena Lake both days. What a great lake. It's got just about every type of feature you would ever want to fish. And it's got some pretty nice bass in it. It rained Saturday but I was still able to catch 5 fish for almost 10 lbs. The first one was a 3lb,15oz. chunk that hit a creature bait up the creek. I talked to another boat that had 8 bass between 2 guys incl. a 6lb,2oz bass. The weather was beautiful Sunday but the fishing wasn't quite as good- at least for me and my fishing partner. We got 2 fish each- a 12 and 14" for him and a 5 and 7" for me. We did get to cruise all over the lake looking around and watching the electronics (On Saturday I was so excited to be going fishing I left the screens sitting on the porch!). A gal fishing near the campground said her neighbor got an 8 lb. bass on Saturday afternoon- I love hearing that. See ya out there.
    City: yoncalla

Tips: T rigged creature baits and a 4" dropshot worm worked for us. Expect little ones on the dropshot or try 6" worms instead. Didn't get any on jigs or crankbaits but had to try. Can't wait 'till August to try frogs along sure to be weedy east (shallow) shore.

Report: First time on tenmile since moving from Redding, Ca. Didnt know what to use or where to go. On the water at 8:00am. Cruised the lake for a while then started fishing. 3rd cast and BOOM!! landed a 3.9lb. Thought to myself this is going to be a good day. Well that was about it. Only got 1 more bass about 2.7lb. Off the water about 1:00. Weather overcast with slight wind. Used Plastics all day. Big one came in about 14ft deep off a senko. Figured i was at "Willow Point" and then "Templeton Arm". Structure a little different than Shasta, but I liked it. I'll know better next time.

Report: I'm planning a trip to Tenmile soon and would appreciate any tips on what to use and where. Also wondered if the Creswell pond has any bass in it. It's right on my way to and from work and a half hour of casting would break up the daily commute nicely. Come on Dave (from Creswell)- what's the scoop? Thanks and enjoy the springtime bassing- it's great!
