Oroville Lake

Water Temp: 54-59
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Guided a regular client and his partner today and had a reasonably good day or big spots in the North Fork. The water is cooler than the South Fork, and we didn't ind the bite wide open, but very good. We wanted to get quality ish moving up as the water warmed - we didn't start until 7:30 am. We wound up with 13 tournament keepers and 2 undersize, with 7 over the slot. The biggest were 2-11, 2-14, and 3-9. Our 5 biggest were a little over 12 1/2 lbs. We caught 2 o the big spots in the irst 2 hours on some east walls, but it wasn't until about 10:30 that the bite picked up. It took my clients awhile to master the pressure bite, so they missed several ish. The spots bit better as the water warmed up. We used brown/orange Rodstrainer jigs most o the time. We threw other baits, but the jig bite was just too much un! We ound the bigger bass up to 20 eet deep in the morning, but shallower than 10 eet in the aternoon. There were really no hot spots, and we ish the whole North Fork up to the ork (sounds weird!) and some in Dark Canyon and Spring Valley.
City: Yuba CityTips: One o the keys to larger spotted bass is to ind a lat near the shore, with a ledge at the end o the lat. A lat o a creek channel is just as good. These ish will move on and o the lat depending on available ood, and weather (light) conditions. A good depth or these lats is 10 to 20 eet, during the spring.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished Friday rom 9am-12pm. Caught a total o 8 ish. One small ish in the morning on black/gold rapala, then as the sun warmed the water I caught 7 in the last hour ishing a berkely power craw. They just couldn't resist it. I nailed the biggest one walking back to the toll booth. I casted rom the road above the rocks and got to see the bass inhale my bait as it sunk. As the ish tired and I reeled it in, I saw 3 nice size (3-5 lbs) ollow my ish in. She was a healthy 3 lbs.........Hey Randy, I asked the lady at the toll booth about the picture o your ish, and she said you had picked it up. She did say it was 12 1/2 lbs. Very nice. You don't have to rub it in by posting here 3 times.

Calero Reservoir

Water Temp: 63
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Lookin to change the pace a little, I threw reaction baits while walking the shoreline today between 12pm-4pm. I did well, caught over 20 fish but not much size to speak of....largest was around 3 pounds. Not many boats on the water today "no jet skies" kind of a nice change. It seemed like the smaller fish were tucked in wind protected coves, most the larger fish I caught were on windy points.
City: San JoseTips: If its windy, take advantage of wind blown points, and mudlines. Take pictures....leave fish...

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

City: San JoseTips: The Bass were about 10-15 feet from shore. The New Worm We Were Using Was the "Walking Worm" and boy does it work!!!

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 54-57
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Ater being on her best behavior or my past several trips - Clear Lake seriously misbehaved Wed evening and night. The wind howled all night, and keeping the boat in a ishable position or 8 hours so my clients could ish, was a real challange in the dark o the moon. I guess I did ok, 'cause we caught 10, and missed well over 10 more. We just couldn't hook them very well in the gusting wind. I think we had some smaller ish biting too. Each client got their second biggest bass ever, one a 6-7, and the other at 6-2. We had several other quality ish or a 5 ish limit o 26 1/4 lbs. One o the ellows wanted to master jigs, and he used my Weapon jigs or his 6-7 and one nearly 5 lbs, and some others. He did ine! The other client and I used Power Hogs and brush hogs, with lots o Smelly Jelly!! We ished in any nook and cranny we could ind that would slow the wind a bit, mostly north o Konocti Resort. The wind in Konocti Bay was so bad, it sounded like the main body. Wow!! We got outta there! The ride in was an adventure, but my 488 Ranger was up to the task - barely got damp!!
City: Yuba CityTips: I ished some during the day, and ound the water temp had dropped about 4 degrees rom the previous week, and guess what. Most o the bass had moved back out o the tules and docks, at least on the west side o the Rattlesnake arm. I caught a ew on Senkos, but didn't even see a big ish. I'm sure this weekend with 80 degree weather, the bass will be back, unless there is too much ishing pressure. The question is - what will happen next week when the air temp drops maybe 15 to 18 degrees, as some are predicting? HMMMMMMM!

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Fished Rodman Slough or the irst time yesterday out o my Porta-Bote-turned-Bass-Buggy. Pitched a jig and threw cranks or 3 hours or more--nothin'. Then threw a rog on a promising bed o surace vegetation, and WHAM!! I got a hit on the irst cast with my new rogstick! 3lb chunky ish. Promising beginning or that stick. Nothing ater that, except a real rog (a real big rog) trying to eat my rog. Couldn't hook him. Would like to have had that picture.

Haven't gotten one on the irst cast in a while, but ater that no more topwater action. Moved north a little to the irst set o submerged trees and by 9 am had 5 more to 3 lbs all on 6" senkos

Powell Lake

Water Temp: 52-61F
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: LAKE POWELL FISH REPORTMARCH 29, 2001 By Wayne Gustaveson Home Page: www.wayneswords.com Lake Elevation: 3662 Water temperature: 52-60 FLake Powell is still on the cool side o great ishing. No spawning has yet occurred. Continuedwarm, calm weather could produce a spawning movement as early as next week. Storm rontscan hold o the spawning event or as much as three weeks. Fishing patterns all directly relate toprespawn ish behavior.Black bass are the most active ish. They will hold in deep water near the edge o the channel orin the back o the canyon where rock and brush are present. Bass move shallow with dailywarming to seek a nest site. Feeding occurs but nest construction is a higher priority. Hence, many ish will be seen in clear water or near the surace in stained water. They may not strikeaggressively at lures except or a 1-2 hour period usually in the aternoon. During the remaindero the day, especially in cool morning temperatures they will only peck at lures or ignore them. Individuals can be convinced to strike occasionally and there are enough ish visible lake wide toproduce a really un experience. More numbers will be caught next month but now is the time tocatch larger bass. Large males occupying nest sites and nearby emales holding in deeper waterare the prime targets. Bottom-contact plastic lures are preerred but crank baits, spinner baits, andjerk baits all work at times in prespawn conditions.Prespawn striped bass eel warming and tend to move in schools toward current. Places like thedam and power plant intake are getting better with some really good sporadic catches reported inshort bursts already. When a school is nearby most anglers catch ish. Then there is a waitingperiod until the school returns. Mid day has been best but appearance o the large school canhappen any time. Stripers in the backs o canyons move toward the shallows on a daily basis. Still the schools areinactive most o the time and can be ound laying on the bottom. When they move up in thewater column they can quickly be caught trolling. Look in the canyon

Water Temp: 64
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Rented a boat and ished rom about 1-5PM. The water temps were mostly around 63-64F. Water clarity was about 14 eet. Incredibly clear. As usual lots and lots o bluegills in shallow water. Started o throwing the MS Slammer or a hal hour with no ollows. Switched to a senko and hit a 1.5 pound male next to a stump. A little while later missed another solid hit on the senko underneath some dead tules. Threw a jig back at the ish and missed it again. Must have been a male guarding a nest. Got another small ish lipping a jig into some heavy tule growth in the back end o the lake. I should have worked in the shallow cover by the creek, but I didn't have time and headed back to the marina. Trolled a kastmaster part o the way and hooked a nice trout that shook o at the boat. Had some extra time when I got back to the marina area so I threw a swimbait and trolled the kastmster some more with no hits.
City: Mountain ViewTips: There's small ish in shallow heavy cover. DOn't know where the big ones are.
