Report: Have been out about 5 times in the past week or so preparing for the Cottonwood Bass Team's annual $100 per lb tournament. Probably should have stayed in bed today. Been fishing the upper Sac a lot and managing a few 2 lb fish per trip. Bryce and I took off this am full of hope and ran north near salt creek where he started catching fish on a yet to be named(by him) MGM worm. It s a watermelon green/violet looking creation. I couldn't get bit on my Hoo-dun-its till about 0930 and then stuck 6 in a row when the sun came out down near Kobe Point. Nothing to get excited about. We had a limit and then ran around trying to improve on it and went through nearly 30 fish but managed only a 1.83 for our big one. Bryce loaded the boat as he usually does, I managed only about 8 and they were just not big enough from 1.45-1.83. We wore out the cul em rite culling but couldn't get over the 10 lb hump, hell we couldn't get over the 8 lb hump. We ran up the pit for a bit and down near the confluence of the McCloud and Pit to no avail. At the weigh in Russ Meyer was in the lead with 16 lbs, but there were a lot of folks in the same boat as Bryce and I. We caught fish from the bank out to 40ft and I only threw a 1/2oz with the MGM hoo-dun-it in color #109. Caught lots of short and light weight fish. We found fish in the areas I was pre-fishing and some decent fish to boot but couldn't get them to go. Air temp going in was a brisk 34 degrees, 47 coming out and the lake is down to 102.8 ft. Visibility is down to nearly 12 ft in many areas. Very little wind today, heavy overcast and COLD.

Report: left the custom valco bass boat at home today to spend time with a buddy. Happy birthday to you know who. We hit a spot at Venice island after stopping off at Dad's pt. first waiting for the fog to clear. All we have to say is that the sea lions cuaght more fish than us. That's all folks.
City: Stockton, Ladd'sTips: Find a school with no sea lions. By the way, keep warm.

Water Temp: 49.6
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: We bait fished IFO Big Break for three small stripers. We then headed up to north end of Sherman Lake and saw some small stripers caught and had a few bites, but no hook ups. We decide to flip jigs for bass and hooked a 4 lb striper on a 1/2 oz black and blue jig and purple pork. That was a first for me... striper on a jig.

Amador Lake
-
Water Temp: 57 degrees
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Headed out for a short 4 hour trip...Missing the warm weather and big bass. Found lots of Trout fishermen trolling the waters and thinking that they own the lake. Had a couple of boaters get pissed at me because I was fishing points in deeper water and I guess I was in their way. Told them to grow up or bring it on and they did the right thing by turning around and trolling other water. What is up with these people? I paid good money just like they did to fish the water. Looks like I am gonna pack it in for the year and wait for warmer weather and water at least on this body of water. Found lots of bait sitting between 25-50 feet of water. Used drop shot worms but no takers. Lots of little bites on my jig, caught one bass at 2lbs. Heathly fish but they still need to fattened up. Bass seem to be eating crayfish as well as shad because lips are beginning to turn red. Good luck to all fishing this lake and "WATCH OUT" for the trout fishermen who think they own the lake!
City: El Dorado HillsTips: Make sure to block all trolling routes because it seems to piss off the trout fishermen.

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 54
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: I went to Clear Lake yesterday late afternoon and after dark until about 2 am. The weather was more interesting than the fishing - really amazing! I only got to fish about 1/2 hour before dark and started with a near 5 pounder and a 4 pounder on a brown/orange Weapon jig with a Mad Man craw trailer. The ride to Konocti for a burger was very chilly. I wasn't worried, 'cause I had come prepared for the worst!! After dark, an east wind came up and the temp warmed up!!! I don't have a clue where the warmer air came from, but when I left at 2:15 am the air temp was 46. I thought it would be 26! When I got back to Yuba City it was 29! Cooch said they caught 100 plus fish on the previous report. Well, that would explain why the night fishing just isn't what it used to be. The bass are just more active during the day right now. I only caught 7 more - all 2 to 3 1/4 lbs. A rare windy night in December made fishing difficult and I missed a lot of the soft bites. The wind, interestingly enought, died for about an hour at midnight - the carp started rolling - and I had the most bites during that period. Up came the wind again and down went the carp and the bass bite. I am hoping when the water temp drops even more, the night bite will get better. I could see lots of fish - some of which had to be bass - on the meter - right on the bottom, but they just wouldn't bite. A 16+ pound limit is ok, but I hope to have a better report next time!
City: Yuba CityTips: The black/chartreuse Weapon jig worked well after dark. I used some large worms with no results. When I switched to a black/red brush hog, I got a lot more bites. They really like that bait during the cold water months. I caught most of my fish in 5 to 20 feet of water. I could not get the 30+ foot deep fish to go. I fished mostly rock ledges in the main body. I did not fish the Rattlesnake Island area - lots of wind.

Contra Loma Lake

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Went out Tuesday and Thursday this week.
Tuesday- Got to the lake by 10:00 AM fished till 4:30 got 3 bass all about 1.5-2lbs all of them were fat and one puked up some shad parts. Dropshoting and Carolina riging real slow in about 6 feet of water near weeds and rocks. Also got a 4lb trout slow rolling a Lucky Craft Combat CB in American Shad (gave the fish away as I hooked it in the gills and had to drag it about 50 yards to shore so I could deal with it and not risk hooking my self or my tube)
Thursday-Got to the lake at around 8:00 fished till 12:00 got 3 or 4 bites and landed 2 fish all day all bites came on a brown/black/redflk jig.
City: PittsburgTips: Slow Slow Slow look for where rocks and weeds meet around an area with easy access to both shallow flats and drop offs.

Anderson Lake

Water Temp: 58+-
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished alone from 9:30 to close and found a tougher bite with the cold snap we have right now. lake has dropped a foot recently and that has pulled some fish out of the 15-25 range. I was able to find the same fish in 35-40 and even a few in 45-50'..Catching numbers isn't that tough but better fish were few and far between. My best five keepers only wieghed about 7lbs. Jigs early on rock and went looking for bait and caught drop shot & spoon fish deep right under the bait. Some of the deeper fish I had to fiz so make sure you learn how to do it and have a needle with you if you choose to target those deep fish.
City: San JoseTips: Still some shallow fish around but spread out..Some huge 100x100' schools of bait on main lake in 35-50'.

Report: Launch out of Ladd's with ice still on the boat. I went looking for some stripers. I caught 7 stripers between 5 and 10-lbs on pencil poppers and 2 at 5-lbs each on a diamond shad. The diamond shad also produced 5 largemouths between 1 1/2 to 2 pounds. Pretty awesome day, but very cold. I was off the water by 2 PM.
City: Suisun CityTips: Look for stripers busting shad or for diving birds.

Water Temp: ??COLD??
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Gave the custom valco bass boat, "BASSBUSTER 1" a new lease on life. I was tired of that old 1974 20 hp Merc. from giving me problems, so I bought a new 15 hp Merc. 4 stoke. Oh YAAA! Feel like a happy bass fisherman again. Decided to run out to Big Al's and start out there first and fish my way back in. Fished 10 - 12 ft. depth with mojo shots and drop shots. Biggest bass was about 2 lbs. Cuaght a couple on cranks and some stripers too. No bites with the jig'npig so stayed with the plastics. 6 inch straight tail worms were the ticket for me. SSSLLOOWW!!!! is the key.
City: Stockton, Ladd'sTips: Down size if need too and fish it slow. They are deep along the outer weed line. Thinking about running into 14 mile slough next time, maybe all the way to the back.
