Report: Hit Emigrant for the first time since this spring to see if some fish are feeding up for spring. Graphed lots of fish in the 15-50ft zone with lots of activity and streaks across the screen which is usually feeding activity. Cranked major points and bluffs, threw jigs and C-Rigs even some swimbaits and flipped a few trees. Not a bite! The air is nice but the water is very cold. It went up about 5 degrees during the day but only in the shallow areas. I am new to the area so I dont know how long it will take to clear up with the run off.
    City: Medford

Tips: Good Luck. Maybe try milking schools on the graph and see if they will turn on.

Report: First of all- love that story about you and your daughter Brian from Medford. I'm hoping to have a day like that soon with my own girl. We never got a chance to get out last year in the boat. She seems ready and Cottage Grove is looking great right now. I fish it at least 2 mornings a week on the way to work and the bites a little slow but I've seen a few good fish up shallow in the last couple weeks. If we actually get 3 days straight of warm sunny weather it will be fantastic. I did have a 5lb,4oz largemouth just drill a 6" swimbait about 2 weeks ago and then a few mornings later a 3lb,14oz nailed a black/blue spinnerbait. Both of these were absolutely beautiful prespawners- full of eggs and healthy looking....and very hard fighting.
So as usual I'll end with- take your kid fishing. Brian in Medford is right- you can probably squeak out 4 or 5 more outings just because you kid wants to go. And I'm hiding a few extra Baby Ruths for me- now I know what those pouches at the end of the tackle bags were designed for!!

Report: Hit the water today at 8am. I took my 5yr. old daughter today who was itching to finally get to go out in the warm weather. After an hour of fishing, but not catching, she got really bored and decided it was time for a break. So she sat down and not only ate her candy bar, but decided it would be funny to eat mine also, had a drink of Pop and told me, " I'm ready to start fishing again". She made me switch her bait to a shakey head worm. She casted the lure into the open water in about 8ft. of water and then it was on. She started yelling at me and I turned around and saw her little kids pole almost bent in half and it looked like she was hung up. I told her to start reeling it and suddenly a nice fish jumps about 3ft. into the air. I started freaking out, she started freaking out, and with 4lb test I was wondering if we had a chance to land this smalley. She did great and reeled it all the way to the boat and I lipped it. 2.2 lbs. Bronze back. The best thing about this is it was her first fish she has caught by herself. She is hooked!!! She's already asked me if we can go again this week. Turns out to be a great excuse to the wife to get out on the lake, the daughter wants to go.
Overall fishing was alright for the day, to many people skiing and wakeboarding.
    City: Medford

Tips: Best bite was on the Plastics. I did have quite a few hits on top water (Zoom frog) but they were small and wouldn't hook up.

Report: Jack and I desided to take his wife, Tina, and my gf, Melissa, out to the lake for a fun filled day of rippin some big lips. After our trip two weeks ago we figured we would put the girls on some easy pickin`s. After a nice few days leading up to the trip a nice little thunder storm blew in friday evening and made a mess out of the lake. It was cold and windy sat morning. Pull up to our old standby spring smallie spot and first cast out one of us gets a little backlash and we all find ourselve wrapped up together. I wont name the culprit but it wasnt one of the girls. Ok, so 10 minutes later we start casting again, now, keep in mind we have 4 people in a 17ft boat all throwing crank baits. Pretty close quarters for all them treble hooks! Melisa draws first blood with an 11in smallie. Not what we were hoping for but hey, its got lips and a tail. A few casts later, second blood. Only this time its its Tina`s hair tie and a backlash that would rival any Osprey`s nest you`ve ever laid eys on. Wont say who did it but I`m glad it wasnt me!! So maybe this crank bait thing was a bad idea. We move out to a more open water area and try some plastic worm rigs since the cranks arent producing anyway ( safer ya know ) and jack hooks a fish. Another 11inch smallie. Decided to go try the willows for some largemouth. No luck at all. I manage to pull out two 11inch smallies and that would be it for the day. A very humbling experience to say the least. Didnt get a chance to talk with any other fisherman. Would be curious to find out if anyone found the key to these lockjawed fish this weekend..
    City: medford

Tips: 4 crankbaits at a time is about two to many!! Had alot of fun with the girls even though the weather was brutal and the catching was worse. Awesome seafood dinner later that evening . Thanx Tina!!

Report: Blasted off about 6;45 on a fairly warm morning for this time of year. Only a slight ripple on the water. Fished the usual early season smallie haunts on the cemetary side. Lake isnt quite full yet, down about 4ft and still stained. Started off throwing crank baits, no takers so switched to a tube, again nothing. Made a real good move and wow, were on em` fast and furiouse. Caught 7 fish in the 2.5 to 3.5lb class out of one small area in about 1hour, all on crankbaits. Decided to give it a rest and look for another pocket of good fish. Picked one off hear and there off points but took a while to find another group like the first one. Fished in the back of the willows on both sides of the lake with only a couple fish here and there. I think those areas will improve over the next week or two. Found a nice mixed group of fish on a flat near a drop off on the east side of the lake. Took 6 more fish out of one little area in the same size class only this time we got a couple large mouth in the mix that were a couple onces shy of 4lb. Off the lake at 2;30 with a total 19 fish, all over 2.5lb, biggest fish going 3.13 to Jack.
Keith-13, Jack-6. Man I need some fresh meat. Might have to take a trip with Kevin to really test my skills. All in good fun of course.
    City: Medford

Tips: Fish are definately staging right now so be looking for those classic shallow water points and humps with deep water close be and allot of spawning water real close. Use reaction baits that cover allot of water to find some fish then probe the area to see how many fish are actually there. The fish we caught were taking the crankbait deep in the mouth so we were sure we were on the right pattern for the day. Good luck and good fishin`!!

Tips: Bring an ice-pick for the lake and a radio for the boredom. Being out there sill wasn't that bad due to the sunshine and no wind.

    Water Temp: ONLY 38.5 degr

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Due to all the good luck Duke's been having my buddy Mike and I thought we'd give Emigrant a try. It was 34 degrees at 8 AM when we launched and the water was 38 degrees. We started off with the brown tubes Duke recommended. We tried several other baits throughout the day and got a bite here and there but you'd set and nothing! Found a couple of spots with fish scattered all over the meter but they wouldn't eat what we were offering. At 11:20 off a nothing looking bank we got our only fish of the day. A 2lb.,13 oz. smallmouth that was as white as we'd ever seen. It bit a football head Sweet Beaver in about 4-6 ft. of water. The bite was so soft and mushy that we thought it was a stick- until we noticed the "stick" was moving side to side. Couldn't get another out of that area which seemed odd. We fished all over the lake and actually found 36 degree water up the creek. This lake looks a lot like Lake Berryessa down south and if it had spotted bass the fishing would be better especially during the cold months. We can't wait to try it again in the spring when it warms up about 10 degrees or so. Too bad it's 3 hrs. away- it's got good shore fishing access. My daughter would love the playground.
    City: yoncalla, oregon

Tips: Duke was right- bring 2 Mr. Heaters- one for the front of the boat and one for the back! Sweet Beavers seem to work just about everywhere- if all else fails- grab a beaver. Good luck- see you out there.

    Water Temp: 42

Report: Went to Emigrant on the 28th to see if they were still biting after all the cold weather and rain we've been having. The wind was again terrible and it caused us to fish in the "not so windy areas" again. Fished all day with about 5 bites but I think most of them were perch. At the end of the day we decided to use the anchor and I think this allowed us to slow down our presentation and fish in the windy-getting-windier areas. We managed 2 fish on back to back casts in 25 feet of water on brown tubes, darter head, then it got too dark to fish. Both Smallmouth were identical 2.5 lbs. The water has gone up drastically (about 10 ft.) and is chocolate milk in color thanks to Tuesday's storm but surprisingly the fish were still in 25ft. of water. <'(((><
    City: Medford

Tips: Bring an anchor due to the fact that I think the wind never stops blowing this time of year at Emigrant and you can't fish too slow so dead stick it. When they bit, they were hammering it if you want to call two fish a pattern.

    Water Temp: 45

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got on the lake just after daylight and launched from the roadline while another boat waited for the gate to open at 7:30. Boy did the weather turn lousy. Wind blowing strong with sleet, snow and rain falling. Fished for 3 hours and off the lake at 10:30. Still managed to scratch out a limit with the best five weighing 9.1lbs. with a 2.7,2.3,2.0,1.1,1.0. top two were Smallies and the rest Largemouth. 6 fish total and about 9 bites total. The other boat fished for about 3 hours as well with a five fish total of 10.3lbs. topped off by a 2.7lb. Smallie. We have caught around 76 fish in the last three weeks and every one has come off brown tubes. the fish were a little deeper today...out to 30 feet with a couple out to 40 feet. Lakes starting to turn so get out there and get in on some great fishing while it lasts. OH, I almost forgot the biggest key to most of the fish... Target the main lake (not just the points either, but they are better though). It's still lonely out there catching all those fish. HAR!!! Duke
    City: Medford

Tips: I think we should change the tournament dates to fish this lake to December!! It's better than the spring!

Report: December 9th. Normally I'll head to Shasta to catch some fish and shake off the cabin fever in the winter but this years Emigrant Lake in December has been nothing short of remarkable. Not too sure how long this is going to last but I'll stay in Oregon as long as they're biting. Fished all day, dark to dark. Biggest fish was a tie with a Largemouth and a Smallie of 3.3lbs. Next biggest three were all Smallies with 3.1,3.1,2.7 for a best five fish total of 15.5lbs... 25 (yes twenty-five)fish were brought to the boat. snapped off 3 and lost 2. Approx. 40-45 bites total today but the fish are starting to get a little smaller due to I guess the cold weather. All on brown tubes, Darter head style. For the life of me I can't understand why we're the only ones on the lake most of the time. Get up there while they're still biting. You'll be hard pressed to beat these type weights at Shasta. Duke
