Report: Partner got 6 (5) after one shook off on the liquid side of the boat. I was tired of netting his fish so he tried to swing a two pounder. Reaction bite was there- two lb smallie on a blade over the weedline. Partner didn't give reaction bite time to work.

Report: Sorry for the late report, phone line was down ALL weekend. Fished Calero from 8:30-4:45 on Saturday and found a great bite. Really windy until mid afternoon. I hooked 13 and landed 10 of them. Really nice fish today, I managed a 5, 4, two 3's, and the rest were all solid 2lbers. I threw small jigs and zipper grubs right around 10' of water. I also managed to get 3 of my smaller fish on a shad colored Fat Free Shad crankbait....nice change of pace. The water must have warmed up a little bit because I didn't get any short strikes today, and the fish fought REALLY HARD. Great day.
      City: San Mateo

Tips: Keep fishing slow but don't be afraid to pull out a crank or blade, especially if it's windy and/or cloudy.

      Water Temp: 52-54

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Launched about 6:30, got a slow start. Got onto a good pattern or 12-14 in spots by 7:30. Fishing main lake points, but they had to have river rock on 'em. The standard points without it held nothing. We were throwing hula grubs. Tried reaction or a while, nothing. The only bite we got going was with the hula grubs, and some o those bites were subtle. A ront was on top o us with ugly gray skies and cold wind that made the boat rides very cold. With a warm spell I think the ish will be stacked up making their transition. They're just parked o o those main lake points waiting to move up. Some o the areas that worked or my partner two weeks prior didn't pan out on this trip.
      City: Hanord

Tips: Plastics on the main lake points with river rock. Another 4 degrees in water temp. and I think it will bust wide open or reaction baits rom main lake points back to secondary points. Yahoooo.

Report: We ished the won bass tourney today at New Melones. We started out throwing reaction baits in the backs o coves with no luck. We then backed o and ished these same coves at about 45 eet and caught two pretty good blacks shaking paddle tails. Ater that my partner caught another two pound black throwing a jig up shallow in the same area. We then spent the remainder o the day throwing cranks and spinner baits but only managed to catch two more 13 inchers. Our inal weight or ive ish was 8.63#s. Not good enough or a check but it kept us alive in the points race.
      City: Riverbank

Tips: I did hear o a ew people catching ish shallow but the majority o isherman were still ishing deep.

Report: Skipped work at lunch time and headed out to the lake. Started fishing at 1 with a red persuader jig I got at the fishing show. Fished about 10 to 15 feet of water on the point straight across the lake from the launch ramp and got a small 2lber. Picked up the jig so slowly I couldn't even feel it until I saw my line moving. was the only boat on the water, wind started to pick up at about 3 and started to look ugly. Worked the jig the rest of the day in about 15 feet of water, seems like thier starting to stage. Managed to catch my limit for a small total of 11 lbs. All fish bit very softly, might of missed a couple mistaking them for bump against rocks. Just waiting for the water to get warmer, then the hogs in this lake will start hitting.
      City: san jose

Tips: Worked a Persuader Jig along the south shore in 15 feet of water very slowly and pay attention to your line. Most pickups are slow and gradual. good luck, and tight lines.

Report: We ished or 4 days straight with the last day 4/1/2001. What a trip! We had an incredible time! Perect weather and over 260 bass on the deck between the two o us. We probably lost another 100 and missed hundereds o bite. It was wide open! We could have caught more but we decided to explore the lake some. Mostly spotted bass with a ew smallmouth mixed in. We also caught a 15" bass with bright red eyes. Amazing looking ish which I have never seen beore. Is there a sub-species o the bass with bright red eyes? Most o the ish were in the middle and south orks. The North Fork had cooler water and less ish. I understand there were larger ish in the North Fork but I would rather have the numbers and have the larger ish mixed in.Those o you who care, the ish were mostly slot ish with maybe 40 over the slot. I have had some great trips at Oroville and this was probably the best. What a lake! In the our days we were there, the surace temperature in the middle ork increased 3 degrees. I you're going, better hurry-up.
      City: Danville

Tips: Carolina rigged six inch morning dawn worms. Also caught some on Gitzits and grubs. Plus there was an awesome evening top water bite. First time I have experienced this on Oroville.
