Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 78-81
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Sorry AB, but I was there on july 13-14...why would I lie about the water quality. Anybody who has been there lately will have to agree with me. The water is terrible. I love Clear Lake, we used to catch 80+ fish a day during this time in the past. We were lucky to catch 15 fish in two days now...and 1 cat! if you say the water is fine you must be talking abot a different Clear Lake.
City: S.S.FranciscoTips: Be prepared to work very hard to find a clear spot to fish. I did catch one 4.5 lb on a rago swimbait (Velvick BV 3D) and the most on sweet beavers. 2 on jigs.

Water Temp: 78-81
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: ok Steve, why don't you tell your possible clients about the worst water quality I've seen at DIRTY LAKE since I started fishing there about 10-12 years ago...I know is not your foult, but it's hard to read a report that doesn't even mention all the crap in the water. If you bring a boat there, be prepared to have wash it right after, not to mention having to replace all you line in all the reels. the only clear water I found was at the south west side near the end by some rocks. from konocti vista marina it's a loooong run to find clear water...I used to love this lake. Now I'm sad to say: no wounder all the for sale signs!
City: S.S.FranciscoTips: try a different lake.
-
Water Temp: MId 80s
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished the north end to the narrows the last couple days, we caught lots of fish up to 4 pounds. Most were strong fighting 3 pounders.
The bite was different both days, yesterday we got into a great swim bait bite, We caught them on the 6" Osprey and the 5" Hippo. We also caught fish on soft plastics, frogs and the shakey head.
I took out a guy (Chris) that wanted to learn how to catch them on swimbaits, well he flat out whacked them and I think he is addicted.
I was fishing the sinko with only 1 bite and he was throwing the swim bait and had a limit in about an hour once we found out how they wanted it.
We continued to run our pattern all the way down to anderson island and back up north.
City: Clear LakeTips: Tips: We covered allot of water to find the fish and changed our presentation until we found out how they wanted it.
If you can get a pattern going it should work on most of the lake now. Each day the pattern has changed for me from a slow presentation to a reaction bite.
Have fun !

Water Temp: 76-79
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Launched Dike8 and started ripping out left along the rock wall/construction road; also had dropshot..zip/zero. Ran to Brown's Ravine willows using senko, darthead, dropshot, even topwater-zip/zero. Next to NewYorkCove trying all same-zip/zero. Next further in at dogleg before Jack'sShack...zip/zero. Continued up river into 5mph but not quite to SalmonFalls Bridge...zip/zero. Back out to main lake peninsula willows-zip/zero. Submerged islands in front of Dike8 and out to depths of 30ft-zip/zero. Even tried countdowns and some slow-rolled spinnerbaits at depths we saw fish (7-12-20-30ft.....ZIP/ZERO! Trying real hard to like this lake in my backyard...real easy to dislike it...but still trying to like it! Chris B....help!!!
City: folsomTips: ZIP/ZERO - Tried everything that worked during similar conditions each year...each year changes. Thought going out middle of the week would help with less boat traffic...NOW THAT WAS NICE! Saw other bassers...saw no fish but I want to believe they caught. Haven't tried N.Fork....Should I??? Maybe Chris B. might help ...That is always appreciated!!

Oroville Lake
-
Water Temp: 79-83
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: This is the year of the "grandpa!" I had another grandpa/grandson (13) trip last night - a little tough on a Sunday night with all the weekend traffic on the water. The boy became a good caster thru the trip and missed a couple of bites. Grandpa missed quite a few until about 1 am when he was 5 for 7 with 2 "overs" - one at 17 inches. I hooked one "over" and a few others before dark which I let the boy land. Though the fishing was overall surprisingly slow, the quality was excellent with only one dink (12 inches) in our catch. We used Robo worms before dark and 7" junebug Berkely Power worms after dark. Very few bass shallow - which they usually are in the dark of the moon. Most were caught 15 to 30 feet.
City: Yuba CityTips: After discussing the slow bite with grandpa during the night, I came to the conclusion that the bass may not have had the need to move shallow since there was so much weed growth cover at the 10 to 30 foot depth. That is not normal for Oroville except after several low water years. Several of our bass were caught ticking the weeds. I have to mention - stunningly beautiful night in the north fork - not a hint of a breeze. Quite dark of course. Once we got close to the dam - the east wind was howling as it does during a heat spell. Big waves! Getting the boat out was a challenge!!!

Report: Hey Stovepipe..thanx for gettin' back to me and sharing the info..very cool of you!
Launched today from New Hope, tried Beaver Slough to start; one blowup/miss on black/yellow frog. Nothing else on senkos/beavers this slough; went straight to our fav Mokulemne tules around the corner from B&W; boated 8 between Bro and Bud; then Tower Marina/Little Potato into Potato for couple more each; then all the way around back to B&W tules for couple more. Good day but all mine were strictly lipless crank (red craw); Bro and Bud mixed bag on plastics, lipless, and spinnerbait.
Thanx again Stovepipe!!
City: folsomTips: Worked outside edge of the weedline for my crankbait hits. Bro and Bud hit tight to tules for senko plastics. Graphed lots of fish during low tide at the weedline and dropoff 7-12'. Dropshot didn't excite them.

Water Temp: 72
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Went in the afternoon, mainly to check on how my boat was running after a few adjustments. After paying the $17.50 fee, I figured I should make a few casts. The good news is the boat ran fine. Unfortunately can't say the same for the catching. Fished for 2.5 hours and threw plastics and blades and didn't receive a bite. The previous reporter obviously knows a lot more than I do.

Tenmile Lake

Water Temp: 72-73
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Took Carl out to Cottage Grove for about 4 hours of fishin' in the boat. Pulled up to our first spot and within about 10 minutes we got a 3.3-18" bass on the jig and beaver. About 10 minutes later we got a 2.4-16" bass also on the jig. Then the sun popped out and we didn't get another bite for about an hour and a half. The 3rd fish bit along the same bank as the other two but didn't bite hard enough to get much hook in her lip and swam right towards the boat. I wish I had been using my normal jig rod with the Stradic reel- I could have caught up and maybe got her in the boat. Carl had the net ready but she came up shaking her head boatside and shook off before he could even dip the net. Looked to be as big as the 3.3- unless you add the customary 15% for a lost fish and then she would have gone at least 4 pounds!! Only bummer was got back to the ramp- stopped the boat to go get trailer and it wouldn't restart. Used the troller and a rope to get it on and found a blown fuse on the motor once I got it home. Did this one other time about 7 years ago- had spare fuse in the boat just didn't feel like changing it at the ramp. Glad that's all it was. I'll hook up the rabbit ears before I take it out next just to be sure. Only odd thing was tach was showing about 7,500 RPM when I know it doesn't rev past 6,200 with 2 normal size guys in it. IT's a 94 Mercury 50HP 4 stroke- anyone else have this happen before?

Berryessa Lake

Water Temp: 78-82
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I guided a father and 2 teenagers yesterday early evening until 1 am. For the first time in a long time, I was disappointed with the bite - though they all caught a fish or two before dark - mostly largemouth and only one dink smallie. The size of the bass was good. After dark, the bite was horrible with only 2 bass being caught. The guys were fishing pretty good too - it wasn't their fault. Usually in 80 degree water the bite will start an hour after dark. Not so late night. The night was very quiet - no bird sounds, fish working, - AND - not a boat after dark around Big Island and north. Amazing!! I guess the 4th of July weekend must have done in the bass!!!
City: Yuba CityTips: We mostly drop-shotted Robo worms before dark, but dad got the most bites split-shotting his Robos. After dark we used my favorite Berry night bait, the 7 inch black Power Worm - normally red-hot after dark. Brush hogs didn't work either. Most of the fish were suspended in the top 30 feet of water, but many were sitting on the bottom - maybe carp and catfish. I wanted to try topwater and cranks, but no-can-do with 4 in the boat. We did see some bait balls also on the meter.

Water Temp: 73-80
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Water temps from low 70's to 80 even. Viz...Clear on the walls dingy everywhere else. Water elevation has dropped some which has started to kill off some of the weeds. I had over 20 fish on buzzbaits, three swimbait fish, one dropshot fish...Just to see if they were where I left them. 6 senko fish...one 7lb. 10 oz. one at 5lb 4 ozs. and one at 6 pounds 13 ozs. I had a great trip and just fished what I wanted where I wanted when I wanted...Lake was deserted because there was an evening tourney....Dave Poolman won it with 31 pounds and a nine pounder...
Rip
I had a dbl. digit miss my bait on two back to back casts....darn near stopped my heart on the second swipe  She just plain missed the bait the first time and missed the hooks the second.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Fished a couple of hours each morning for the last week, primarily from the narrows to Rattlesnake. Overall it was pretty slow - for the first couple of days around the 4th I caught more cats than bass! Seemed to be the same for others I spoke with. Got a bit better later in the week (perhaps as the holiday crowds subsided?). Quite a sight to see all the carp spawning behind Rattlesnake.
City: Glenhaven, CATips: Surprisingly slow bite on drop shot/dart headed worms, usually these work well. Most productive was Basstrix 4" swim baits off Henderson Point - got 2 4+'s in successive casts. Bite for all was very soft.

Water Temp: 80
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: 7 bass towards north end. South end is clumped up again with algae bloom. Stinks real bad. Shag rock was a little better water. Wish F&G/County would let this lake go through it's natural cycle and stop spraying chemicals that are killing off all shad/baitfish and fry. $10.00 monthly stickers are a waist (nice to know money is going to spray chemicals in lake and killing off fish.
City: pleasant hillTips: Fish cleaner lakes and try again next year.

Lexington Lake
-
Water Temp: Unknown
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Agreed with earlier posts. It is time for local fisherman to somehow mobilize to get our access back to this lake. When I was a kid it was power boats one day, sail boats another. We have dealt with muscle inspection at other lakes in the area, we could clearly deal with it here. And, hey, electric motors only... fine! Let's just get some access to this beautiful location. In the tips section is a link to send email directly to santa clara county parks... i think if enough people start making a lot of noise, we may be able to get people thinking. Screw the rowing club - i see them in power boats buzzing across the lake and it pisses me off I can't be on there in at least a float tube. I have caught some nice fish here (crappie too) back in the day.. it's time to get back on Lexington!
City: Pacific GroveTips: Here is a link for email:

Let's make this happen!!!! -
Water Temp: unknown
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I live in the hills, just a few minutes from Lexington. I've only lived here for about 3 years, and never bothered to fish Lexington before this summer, since the lake was so empty. Since mid-June, I've fished it 3 times and my sons and I have caught a good number of little bass each time. When I say little, I mean little---like 6 inches would be a lunker. We fished near the boat dock each time, and I'd bet some of these bass were stocked there (it's the only place to drive down to the water), since the further we move away from the dock, the less fish we catch. Anyways, there seem to be lots of small bass, there are definitely tons of minnows, and clouds of bass fry are everywhere. If the lake stays reasonably full for a few years, it should provide some quality fishing. Of course, you have to fish from shore, but everybody has the same handicap, so that doesn't bother me too much. Well, the rowers would have an advantage, but I'm pretty sure they're not fishing---at least I've never seen anybody troll that fast...
City: Los GatosTips: Good fun for kids who just want to catch something and not concerned about the size.

Tenmile Lake

Water Temp: perfect
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished the 7th,8th,9th and 10th at Cottage Grove. Couldn't get a bite on the 7th and the 9th. Got a 2.8, 17" bass on a jig and beaver on the 8th and then moved to a different part of the lake and got a 3.4, 19" bass on a senko. I used a belly weighted hook with the senko. A couple things I like about it are: Casts further, sinks faster and with a med. action spinning rod you can see the tip vibrate. And they really hit it hard too. On the 10th I went to one of my favorite spots. On the first cast at about 5:45 AM I felt something bump my jig so I set the hook and my flippin' stick really loaded up! Felt like all of 6 or 7 pounds. I finally was able to move it towards me and when it got close I could see it was a nice bass. When it got a little closer I noticed it was hooked in the top of the back- right by the dorsal fin. That explained why it felt so big and also explained the lack of headshake during the fight. I had a heck of a time trying to net it- try leading the fish into the net. Every time it saw the net it pivoted and swam away from it. Finally had to swing the rod from right to left and swat the net at it like a tennis racket. Got it in and it went 21", 4 pounds, 12 ounces. Got the hook out and gently put her back in the rubber net and lowered her back into the lake. She swam away fine- I just hope she'll be able to live out her life and make lots more babies for my kids to catch. Last month at Tenmile lake my daughter and I caught a 2 and a half pound bass that had a chunk out of his back and now I think I know how he got like that. Didn't take a picture of the 2.8 from Tenmile and "story of my life" couldn't remember to grab my camera on the way out the door (Four mornings in a row- dough!!) headed to Cottage Grove. I am loading the boat in 15 minutes and heading for the lake with Carl. Hope to catch a few in the 3 or 4 hours we have to fish. I'll try to post again tomorrow if anything cool happens.
City: yoncallaTips: Grabthecamera, grab the camera, GRAB THE CAMERA!!!! Actually I put it in the boat last night so my feeble 4AM mind couldn't forget again. It is time to get your license, get your pole, and head for the lake. Should be a great summer and I hope to fill up a whole logbook between now and October. And thank you Brady for posting a nice report- one of the areas you mentioned payed off and jigs and senkos are hard to beat pretty much any time of year. See ya out there.
