      Water Temp: 70

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: My son & I started the day way up the lake past the Narrows, in the very shallow upper end. It seemed every boat on the lake had the same idea so there was too much o a crowd or us. We had no luck there so we made ouy back down the lake. Everyone we saw was casting chartruese spinnerbaits to the shore. We had luck on dierent colored spinnerbaits out a distance rom the shore, on bass in 1.5 to 2# range. They were suspended over the weeds at 8-10' in water 16-18' deep. Also caught a 3# bass on a small silver spoon (Timber Doodle) tipped with a clear/sparkle plastic grub. That one came rom right at the shoreline in the Swimming Pool Cove. Fun ight since it was on ultralight tackle.
      City: Monterey

Tips: We've had luck recently at Santa Margarita and other lakes (San Antonio and Casitas) using presentations very dierent rom what everyone else is using. The bass can really get conditionedrom seeing the same lure over and over again. For example, we've put our Chartruese and White spinnerbaits away or a while.

      Water Temp: 54-58

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Over the holiday weekends, some Bass-n-Tubes buddies o mine went & had a TIME @ Naci. Water temps were in themid-to-high 50's (as opposed to the *40's* up here at the Delta!). One Saturday -- 12/19, I believe -- Joe Puente caught a7lb.-4oz. Largemouth (!!!); then John Lake went back at 'em on Jan. 2 & caught a 6-lb.+ Spot -- a potential lake record! Ithink Eric H. also caught a 3-lb.+ smallmouth that same day. Storm Wiggle Warts, dartheaded worms & Carolina rigs seemedto be the ticket. Joe said he also caught a couple on the new Castaic crawish. They also caught *numbers* o ish, say 15-20ish or more, per day, per isherman (well, a couple o the other guys ishing with them might not have caught *quite* that many, but more than what most guys have been catching up north here lately!). That couple-hour's drive south can sure be worth it --especially when you get rustrated ishing or 6-8 hours at a time getting SKUNKED around here, like I have lately (around SanJose)! Oh, well, I'll get my chance soon: Nacimiento is the irst stop on the BASS-N-TUBES 1999 TOURNAMENT TRAIL-- a two day venture, Feb. 27-28. The balance o the schedule, which we just inalized this week, is as ollows: March 28: LakeBerryessa /// April 25: Pinto Lake (Watsonville) /// May 16: Lake Sonoma /// June 26-27: Delta - Middle River (2 days) /// July25: Pinto Lake /// August 22: Delta - Middle River /// Sept. 19: Woodward Reservoir (Oakdale) /// Oct. 9-10: Clear Lake (2days) /// Nov. 7: Los Banos Creek Reservoir. I you're interested in joining us, we'd be more than happy to have you! We're always looking or new aces! Call John Lake (408-263-6174) or Je Smith (408-224-9113) or details, or e-mail me rom here. It's *cheap* ($25 per tournament), *highly competitive*, and a heck o a lot o un! Do it, man! You'll be HOOKED, I promise! In the meantime, we'll see you at the Sportsmen's Expo in San Mateo, Feb. 3-7. Rip a Lip!

We ished some old outside stu that we haven't ished since '96 when we sold our Ranger. It was quiet, only 3 boats on the entire lake Monday, Tuesday there were maybe a dozen boats but most were trolling or trout, I love this lake! 6lb. P-Line, Robo Worms "Body Shad" (Aaron's Magic), and 1/4 oz. drop-shot and 3/8 oz. split-shot weights on #1 round-bend hooks. Had a blast, Pastor Will

My buddy and I caught 9 ish all together with about a two pound spot average. 5 on pig n jigs, 2 on a split shot worm (shad pattern and purple blue), 1 on shakin (purple blue), and 1 drop shotting (shad w/chartruce tail).
