Report: Jack and I desided to take his wife, Tina, and my gf, Melissa, out to the lake for a fun filled day of rippin some big lips. After our trip two weeks ago we figured we would put the girls on some easy pickin`s. After a nice few days leading up to the trip a nice little thunder storm blew in friday evening and made a mess out of the lake. It was cold and windy sat morning. Pull up to our old standby spring smallie spot and first cast out one of us gets a little backlash and we all find ourselve wrapped up together. I wont name the culprit but it wasnt one of the girls. Ok, so 10 minutes later we start casting again, now, keep in mind we have 4 people in a 17ft boat all throwing crank baits. Pretty close quarters for all them treble hooks! Melisa draws first blood with an 11in smallie. Not what we were hoping for but hey, its got lips and a tail. A few casts later, second blood. Only this time its its Tina`s hair tie and a backlash that would rival any Osprey`s nest you`ve ever laid eys on. Wont say who did it but I`m glad it wasnt me!! So maybe this crank bait thing was a bad idea. We move out to a more open water area and try some plastic worm rigs since the cranks arent producing anyway ( safer ya know ) and jack hooks a fish. Another 11inch smallie. Decided to go try the willows for some largemouth. No luck at all. I manage to pull out two 11inch smallies and that would be it for the day. A very humbling experience to say the least. Didnt get a chance to talk with any other fisherman. Would be curious to find out if anyone found the key to these lockjawed fish this weekend..
      City: medford

Tips: 4 crankbaits at a time is about two to many!! Had alot of fun with the girls even though the weather was brutal and the catching was worse. Awesome seafood dinner later that evening . Thanx Tina!!

      Water Temp: 48-52

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Blasted off about 6;45 on a fairly warm morning for this time of year. Only a slight ripple on the water. Fished the usual early season smallie haunts on the cemetary side. Lake isnt quite full yet, down about 4ft and still stained. Started off throwing crank baits, no takers so switched to a tube, again nothing. Made a real good move and wow, were on em` fast and furiouse. Caught 7 fish in the 2.5 to 3.5lb class out of one small area in about 1hour, all on crankbaits. Decided to give it a rest and look for another pocket of good fish. Picked one off hear and there off points but took a while to find another group like the first one. Fished in the back of the willows on both sides of the lake with only a couple fish here and there. I think those areas will improve over the next week or two. Found a nice mixed group of fish on a flat near a drop off on the east side of the lake. Took 6 more fish out of one little area in the same size class only this time we got a couple large mouth in the mix that were a couple onces shy of 4lb. Off the lake at 2;30 with a total 19 fish, all over 2.5lb, biggest fish going 3.13 to Jack.
Keith-13, Jack-6. Man I need some fresh meat. Might have to take a trip with Kevin to really test my skills. All in good fun of course.
      City: Medford

Tips: Fish are definately staging right now so be looking for those classic shallow water points and humps with deep water close be and allot of spawning water real close. Use reaction baits that cover allot of water to find some fish then probe the area to see how many fish are actually there. The fish we caught were taking the crankbait deep in the mouth so we were sure we were on the right pattern for the day. Good luck and good fishin`!!

      Water Temp: 45-48*

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Very windy and fish were holding tight to the bottom in about 30-40' of water. Found fish holding off main lake points and close to large rock outcroppings. Fished for about 3 hours had maybe 4 light bites on shakey worms fished real slow right on the bottom. Bites were soooo light didnt stick a single fish. Acouple more weeks of good warm weather and they will probably start to move in and become a little more agressive. Not a bad day on the water for the first trip of the year, a few bites, boat ran great. Im going to go to Tenmile lake this weekend and will post a report there next week. Good luck this year everyone and lets post lots of reports to help each other!! Fish On!!
