Emigrant Lake
-
Water Temp: ONLY 38.5 degr
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Due to all the good luck Duke's been having my buddy Mike and I thought we'd give Emigrant a try. It was 34 degrees at 8 AM when we launched and the water was 38 degrees. We started off with the brown tubes Duke recommended. We tried several other baits throughout the day and got a bite here and there but you'd set and nothing! Found a couple of spots with fish scattered all over the meter but they wouldn't eat what we were offering. At 11:20 off a nothing looking bank we got our only fish of the day. A 2lb.,13 oz. smallmouth that was as white as we'd ever seen. It bit a football head Sweet Beaver in about 4-6 ft. of water. The bite was so soft and mushy that we thought it was a stick- until we noticed the "stick" was moving side to side. Couldn't get another out of that area which seemed odd. We fished all over the lake and actually found 36 degree water up the creek. This lake looks a lot like Lake Berryessa down south and if it had spotted bass the fishing would be better especially during the cold months. We can't wait to try it again in the spring when it warms up about 10 degrees or so. Too bad it's 3 hrs. away- it's got good shore fishing access. My daughter would love the playground.
City: yoncalla, oregonTips: Duke was right- bring 2 Mr. Heaters- one for the front of the boat and one for the back! Sweet Beavers seem to work just about everywhere- if all else fails- grab a beaver. Good luck- see you out there.

Emigrant Lake
-
Water Temp: 42
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Went to Emigrant on the 28th to see if they were still biting after all the cold weather and rain we've been having. The wind was again terrible and it caused us to fish in the "not so windy areas" again. Fished all day with about 5 bites but I think most of them were perch. At the end of the day we decided to use the anchor and I think this allowed us to slow down our presentation and fish in the windy-getting-windier areas. We managed 2 fish on back to back casts in 25 feet of water on brown tubes, darter head, then it got too dark to fish. Both Smallmouth were identical 2.5 lbs. The water has gone up drastically (about 10 ft.) and is chocolate milk in color thanks to Tuesday's storm but surprisingly the fish were still in 25ft. of water. <'(((><
City: MedfordTips: Bring an anchor due to the fact that I think the wind never stops blowing this time of year at Emigrant and you can't fish too slow so dead stick it. When they bit, they were hammering it if you want to call two fish a pattern.

Emigrant Lake
-
Water Temp: 45
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Got on the lake just after daylight and launched from the roadline while another boat waited for the gate to open at 7:30. Boy did the weather turn lousy. Wind blowing strong with sleet, snow and rain falling. Fished for 3 hours and off the lake at 10:30. Still managed to scratch out a limit with the best five weighing 9.1lbs. with a 2.7,2.3,2.0,1.1,1.0. top two were Smallies and the rest Largemouth. 6 fish total and about 9 bites total. The other boat fished for about 3 hours as well with a five fish total of 10.3lbs. topped off by a 2.7lb. Smallie. We have caught around 76 fish in the last three weeks and every one has come off brown tubes. the fish were a little deeper today...out to 30 feet with a couple out to 40 feet. Lakes starting to turn so get out there and get in on some great fishing while it lasts. OH, I almost forgot the biggest key to most of the fish... Target the main lake (not just the points either, but they are better though). It's still lonely out there catching all those fish. HAR!!! Duke
City: MedfordTips: I think we should change the tournament dates to fish this lake to December!! It's better than the spring!

Water Temp: 45
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: December 9th. Normally I'll head to Shasta to catch some fish and shake off the cabin fever in the winter but this years Emigrant Lake in December has been nothing short of remarkable. Not too sure how long this is going to last but I'll stay in Oregon as long as they're biting. Fished all day, dark to dark. Biggest fish was a tie with a Largemouth and a Smallie of 3.3lbs. Next biggest three were all Smallies with 3.1,3.1,2.7 for a best five fish total of 15.5lbs... 25 (yes twenty-five)fish were brought to the boat. snapped off 3 and lost 2. Approx. 40-45 bites total today but the fish are starting to get a little smaller due to I guess the cold weather. All on brown tubes, Darter head style. For the life of me I can't understand why we're the only ones on the lake most of the time. Get up there while they're still biting. You'll be hard pressed to beat these type weights at Shasta. Duke

Report: Went to emigrant on the 24th and 25th... Day one our boat caught 16 total with the biggest going 3.2 lb smallie. Most were largemouth in about 8-20ft deep all on tubes. The other boat showed up a little late and caught 11 with the biggest going 2.8 (smallie). Day one best 5 around 8.5 lbs. or so for both boats... Next day went back out and on the water at 9 a.m. Caught twelve before 1 p.m. all on tubes. off the water at 4 p.m. with 16 total. Best five went 18.2lbs.(No Joke) the biggest was a 4.9lb Largemouth in 8 feet of water next was 3.4, 3.3, 3.3, 3.3 all smallmouth. Broke off or lost two more good ones (both Smallmouth). All fish were on tubes. One of the best days I've had on Emigrant and you wouldn't have thought it was November except for the snow in the hills and 40 degrees outside!! The fish were Trinity class fish. Bigger fish were caught between 5-20 feet. We caught fish out to 35 feet also (12" Largemouths). Lowered the Aqua-vu and spotted active Smallmouth in 18-20 feet with a water temp of 45.2 degrees at that depth. No thermocline layer noticed.

Report: I did catch a spot on lost creek earlier this year 2.5 lbs, I was surprised when I landed it and noticed it was a spot. Also last year I caught a 7lb Bass, I thought it was a largemouth, but the mouth was so small me and my buddies all commented how small the mouth was... I weighed it and took pictures, now that I know what a spot is, I believe it was a spot...I can email you the pictures

Water Temp: 58-59
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Out on the lake around 12pm. There were more fisherman than I had expected. Everyone must have shot their deer already. Pretty slow day for the most part, found some smaller fish on the East fork near the rock wall, got those on a luckycraft pointer. Couldn't get the jig bite or crank bite going. Had quite a few bites on Carolina rig'd tubes in green pumpkin. I forgot my spinning rod today, but I know the drop shot bite would have been good, had good luck last week with drop shot in 12-15 ft. range w/ 4" weenie worm in oxblood.
City: medfordTips: I was wondering if someone could confirm the rumor that Lost Creek has Spotted bass in there now? How is the fishing there?

Report: What happened to the water in Cottage Grove? I was on vacation in California for 10 days and I couldn't believe how far it had dropped. It reminded me a lot of the lakes I fished during the late 90's in California- during a pretty tough drought. It's kinda fun getting to see all the areas I've got good bass from. My best spot all late spring and through the summer was actually nothing more than a 2' tall- 5' round hump along a gentle sloping bank. No stumps, big rocks or giant wall of weeds- just that little hump. Three bass between 3.5 and 4 lbs. came off that spot. I found a really nice lookig stump field that I'll have to use the kayak on. Looks like the perfect area to fish my favorite lure- the jig and any piece of plastic behind it. I'm hoping to get out a few times before winter really sets in even if I have to use the kayak. Both ramp at Cottage Grove are pretty much done. If you have a 4 wheeler to pull your trailer out of the mud at the bottom of the ramp you'll be fine. Good luck and man I can't wait 'till next spring. Oh yeah- I drop shotted a bit but got no bites.

Report: My wife Jennifer and I hit the lake early. Started out with topwater and got a mix of largemouth and smallmouth on the spitn image and a couple on the Hammer Buzz Buzzbait. Threw a crankbait with some good results. Caught a few on a jerkbait as well.
The fish didnt want anything to do with the jig/trailer combo yet. My wife caught several fish dragging a 4" worm 0n the bottom while I was throwing the reaction baits.
Beautiful day out on the water!!!
City: MedfordTips: Seemed the fish wanted the red colored worms this day. Had good luck with a Deep "little N" crank in red color as well.

Report: What a long drive for only a few fish, but the fish we caught were sweet. My son had a real nice 2+ on his 3rd cast on a crankbait fishing a large weed edge. But most of the fish we caught were by fishing slow. The weather was awesome and we had a great time at a very beautiful lake. Good luck and safe fishing

Emigrant Lake
-
Water Temp: 62-64
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Launched at first light. Most of the lake was glass with only a mild ripple in some areas. Quite a few boats out today for oppening weekend of hunting season. I guess that tells you how popular our sport is getting. Now if the fish and game would just realise the revenue that Oregon is missing out on by not really supporting our warm water fishery`s huh? Anyhoo..Started off throwin cranks jigs and topwater. Brought my 11ry old son Jered along this morning to try and get him into some of these crank fish. On his third cast he hooks a real nice smallmouth. The fish made about a 3ft leep and spits the bait out. Dang!! Guessing the fish at about three pounds. His eyes were like saucers.Jack hooks up with a nice 201/2 lb smallie on the same spot. The fish were hitting top water pretty good but the only decent fish was a roughly 2lb bigmouth. I get a nice smallie in the 2lb class and we just keep movin down the bluffs. Nothin huge on the Emigrant creek side so after about 2hrs we head to the other side. All the boats seem to be on this side of the lake. Topwater bight seems to be off now so we are back on the cranks. I get a 4lb largemouth on a crank and we pick up alot of dinks and a few 1-2lb fish of both types.Bight is not near as good as the previous weekend. I`m sure its due to the lack of wind. The lake has also dropped about 18 inches and that could have something to do with it as well. We tried going a little deeper but didnt help the results. Caught me a nice slimer and I could tell Jack was jealous. Some clown was sitting in the horseshoe at the cemetary catching one fish after another and keeping everything he caught. I`l bet this guy put 30 fish of all kinds in that box. Where`s the game warden when you need him huh? Made me sick. If I had been alone I would have said something to him but didnt want to cause a scene in front of my kid. Ran into a guy that said his wife caught a 6lb lm on a crank earlier that morning so it sounds like the hogs might be starting to show up.
City: MedfordTips: Good luck to all and if you see a guy in a white smoker craft keep your eye on him. He might be killin allot of our valuable fish.

Emigrant Lake

Water Temp: 64
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Jack and I left Medford on a cold clear morning, not a breath of wind. Crested the entrance to Emigrant next to the dam at about 5;30am and almost had to put the truck in 4WD to enter the park due to the gail force winds. As we drove down the ramp we could see white caps breakin as far as we could see. Steve Mitchel was parked at the bottom tryin to decide weather or not to brave the storm and said the wind had slowed a little since he showed up so we all decided to give it a chance to calm down before launching. A few other boats pulled in, driver gets out, looks around and decides to leave. Launched at bout 6;20 and head down the left hoping for a fall reaction bite.I get a nice 2 1/2lb smallie right off on a crank bait, hopes are high for a good day. I continue to pick up some smaller sm on the crank while Jack picks up a topwater bait to throw in the calmer water nooks and starts picking up a few lm in the 1lb class. Cranks in the wind and topwater in the calmer areas both getting bit. What I cant figure out is evertime we fish together I catch allot of smallmouth and jack gets mostly largemouth ( and trout )fishin the same stuff in the same place. Boy, he really has a knack for locating them slimers.. Worked alot of this side of the lake and decide to take a look at the other end hoping to get out of the wind a little. It was not to be. The wind was worse on this side but decided to brave it and try an old stand by spot just to see if it was holding anything. We pull int the spot and Jack decides to give up the front of the boat to me. Gee thanx!! The trolling motor would just bareley keep up with the wind and we start rippin fish right away. The area is only about 20yds by 20yds and full of both smallies and lm, not to mention the slimers jack managed to catch. We procede to rip one after another with quite a few in the 1-2 1/2lb class. After about an hour of this we decide to strap on the feed bag and take a break from the wind. Head back to where we started to see if any more fish had moved into our hog hole. Having first, biggest, and most, at this point I decide to lay down for a bit and recooperate from a very late night before with little sleep. About fifteen minutes into my knap I hear the familliar whip of a good hookset and upon opening my eyes I see a healthy bend in Jacks rod. I`m thinkin, oh great, knowing where we are, what he is throwing, and who I am with, I fully expected to see a monster largemouth surfacing any moment. Turned out to ba a good nearly 4lb lm. Good fish but not unbeatable. So I get up and start casting again. We get a few more decent fish but nothin to brag about. About ready to leave at 12;00 and we decide to take one more shot on the other side just for good measure. The fish are still there! I hook a real good fish and warn Jack that he is goin down with this one.. Turns out to be about the same size as the one he got and we didnt weigh iether of them so had to call it a draw. After about an hour the battery died completely. 6 hrs of use on full power and our power source was depleted ending what was an excelent day on our favorite local lake. I would say we wound up with at least 20 keepers each with two fish that would be very close to 4lbs each and plenty of rats. Advantage Jack with the slimers. I can live with that!!
City: MedfordTips: Dont think the big fish are shallow in the day time yet but will start to show up in the next month. As much as the wind hinders your abillity to fish, it sure doest hurt the catching as long as you can take it. Total reaction bite, very few on worms and jigs. The only thing I can figure about the smallmouth for me and largemout for him thing is this. Largemout are stupid and smallmouth have higher standards for who they will allow to fool em`. Just my opinion. For slimer tips call or write to Jack Harris, he`ll slime ya up good..

Report: Took my wife to the lake early on Sunday for some bassin. Started catching fish right away. Couldnt get a response on the topwater. I set the wife up with a split shot rig so she could drag small baits from the back of the boat as I fished reaction baits up front. Her third fish was a real nice 3+ smallie, her best ever. I caught lots of smaller fish throughout the morning on crawdad colored cranks as well as fire tiger/parrot colored ones casting across main lake points.
Had fun fishing the minimal amount of bushes still in the water with a soft jerkbait. Caught a few largemouth as well as a couple of smallies. I LOVE fishing these things. Found a small cove that the wind was blowing directly into, the birds were workin it pretty good. Caught a couple small largemouth on a rocket shad in there (burned just under the surface).
Wife caught another real nice smallie on the same split shot rig on another main lake point. Still had her dragging a 3" worm---color did not matter.
The fish DEFINITELY wanted the smaller baits (plastics) this day. Tried the bigger stuff and did not get touched. The fish I caught were on the reaction baits. My wife caught the quality dragging the small baits over the points. Turned to a very slow pick by 11:00 A.M. Put the boat on the trailer at 2:00 P.M.

Report: Took my Dad and brother in law out on Saturday. Fishing was slow. We did manage to catch a few fish on the split shotted platics and carolina rigged plastics. I also caught several fish on crawdad colored cranks and one on a popper. Most fish were in the shade on the steeper banks. Looking forward to the fall bit up here!!!!
