Most were 2 to 3 pounds, biggest was 4 pounds 10 ounces. This was one o the best ishing trips o my lie. We caught ish on rip baits, brown grubs, and gitzits mostly. Some days we caught on steep rock, some days on slopy rock and some days on slopy points. Each day was dierent. I caught the 4 pound 10 ounce ish out in the middle o angles cove in 30 eet o water. My brother had broken o and the boat was just driting and I was just an casting to kill time when wham it hit my rattling rouge and took o or china. What a ight.

Report: My annual report on Oroville. We go up once a year about this time with my Oroville partner Patrick. We ished last Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and hal day on Sunday (yesterday). This trip will have to go on record as the best numbers trip we have ever had. 103 landed on Thursday (we din't start ihsing until 10:00 AM)! We did just as well on Friday. About 50 to 60 on Saturday ( I think only because we were exploring new areas ). Sunday would have been another 100 ish day i we stayed. Our thumbs were raw and bleeding (we inally igured out we could grab most o the ish by the back, but a little to late). Just a note we lost nearly hal the amount we caught. It was really unbelievable. You have to love this lake - plus it's beautiul place to spend time. I thought with the water so warm, we missed the boat this year, but on the contrary we knocked them dead. For those o you who care, we would have 8 to 10 pound-ive ish limits each day. The larger spots we caught range rom the minimum 15 inches to the max o 17.5 inches and I would suggest about 20% o the ish were keepers. We spotted a couple o our to ive pound ish which appeared to be spawning in 65 degree water. I thought spots spawned in water that is in the mid 50 degree range. Oh well. To say the least, we were very satisied and it was diicult to turn the boat towards the ramp on our last day there. Until next year...
      City: Danville

Tips: Fish slowly. Small jigs or most o the ish with very light line. Got on a good spinnerbait bite on the muddy wind blown banks. Even got some on top water plugs. Although we caught some on morning dawn worms, this was the irst trip that morning dawn worms didn't slay them as usual.

Report: Weather was pretty good considering we havn't had much o it lately, but my daughters, and I landed a good size bass 8 pounder...released it, caught it with a nightcrawler, also landed a good size redear on a nighcrawler, at the west end ..lost at least 2 more bass..had a problem reeling them in..on a 6 pound test line..that my daughter usually uses or red ear..they gave her a ight, but it was a great day! or ishing.
      City: Oxnard

Tips: 8 pound testline clear...with a small split shot, and size 8 salmon hook with a whole nightcrawler drop it in weed beds, and slowly bring it back little by little and bam..you too can have a good size ish..but this requires some patience..i you don't have it orget it.

Report: Fished the Bay o Folsom (The main part o the lake) that's what it seemed like with the strong winds. Had a pretty decent day. I worked one point and produced about 7 ish all rom 1.5 to 2.5lbs, mostly spots and a couple o smallies. Fished out at Rattlesnake bar to escape all the skiers and jet skis. Caught about our, in about an hour. Went back to Granite Bay and caught about 5 more in the same range all using Senko's Watermelon with red or black pepper; both 3" and 4" in an average o 8 eet o water. Not too bad o a day or a novice like me.

Report: A weekend o highs and lows and some questions. Did it again, Saturday's ABA became a preish or a club event on Sunday. 8lbs even or Saturday and going nowhere ast. 8.42 on Sunday or a 4th place inish despite my partners engine problem. We idled back to the mainlake and made the best o it- A 2.4 on a blade at 2 pm. Darterheads in clear water and Senkos or blades in stained water. An 8.8 weighed in Saturday, and there were a ew more toad sightings reported. Saturdays awards were interupted by a DOA at the Bidwell dock. Emergency vehicles and a helicopter circling overhead. Prayers or that amily. It's about all the 2lb ish on the reports below. Out o 60 teams that competed over the weekend, only 15 had limits with a 2lb average. Is an Oroville 2lb really a 1.5 everywhere else or what?
      City: El Dorado Hills

Tips: Unless you sight ish, use Senkos and reaction in mudlines and stained water. Mudlines develop during the day rom boat traic and wind.

Report: Got to the dock about 2:30 to ish the aternoon bite and do some shad chasing.A tough day with only three small bass in the boat...all dinks. The most exciting thing that happened was a very large bass... came ater one o the dinks my son was reeling in and grabbed hold...It had to be at least 8-12LBs.We looked at each other and said at the same time "did you see that?"Probably a large mouth but maybe the next world record spot! We were using shad colored lukes and 4-5" clear senkos with black leck.My apoligies go out to Marley-Mann questioning his post last week. It seems he and his partner are not only very skilled but also had one o those days we are all chasing!!Here's wishing you many more o those days Marley-Mann!!!

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Was ishing the Check 12 dam at sunrise using worms/plastic and mudsucker. Landed at least 30 ishes using medium tackle within the our hour that the water was churning. Majority o the ishes were around 16" with some babies and were tearing up the night crawlers. Lots o un battling with the medium tackle. Went home around 10am with two keepers (22" & 23")caught on mudsuckers. Did not see anyone catch any large striper but did see numerous large carp jumping early in the morning. I'm a bank isherman so I normally ish with two poles. A heavy action and a medium action tackle. I use the heavy action tackle or live bait when ishing or bigger ish and use cut bait/worms or the medium action tackle to entertain mysel while waiting or the big one to come and play. Noticed that when the small ones stop biting... the big ones are lurking - be ready!!!
      City: san jose

Tips: Set the hook early when using worms to prevent the hook rom being swallowed. Seen a lot o undersized ish loating on the surace due to these types o injuries. Bring a good pair o pliers and good luck.

THEN THE TOURNAMENT BOATS SHOWED UP. I DID GET ABOUT AN HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES OF FISHING BEFORE THEY SHOWED UP.... I WAS SUPRISED TO SEE SO MANY OF THEM FISHING SLOW AND MID-DEPTH. THE TOPWATER WAS AMAZING THIS MORNING. I CAUGHT SEVERAL LIMITS OF QUALITY KEEPERS. EVEN THOUGH MANY OF THE PLACES I LIKE TO GO WERE ALREADY INHABITED WITH ANGLERS I WAS HAPPY WITH THE FISH I CAUGHT. THE TOURNAMENT ANGLERS WERE VERY COURTEOUS AND NOT ONE OF THEM PULLED UP ON ME, SO IF THEY READ THIS THANK YOU.... GOOD LUCK TOM

Report: WOW what a great day on the lake!!Launched at Monticello and ripped afew fish almost immediately.Eventually ended up in Putah Creek.Saw lots of fish in the coves but they were wary and uninterested.Found a new pattern for this lake I have never used before---5" Senko in the bluegill color.Threw it weightless on cover near shore or deep and they just hammered it!!We caught fish all day, smallies and largies, ranging from 2-5lbs.Big fun.A little excitement when my partner hooked a 4' water snake and he HATES snakes.I thought he was going to jump off the boat!!
      City: Napa

Tips: Fish are deep, shallow and in between. They are on beds and staging too do their thing.Lighter brighter colors seemed to work best.Enjoy it while its hot.

Report: A very hot day yet the water remains quite chilly. The bass are deinitely biting better and should be red hot shortly i the warm weather continues. The morning bit was the key as I got ew bites ater 12:00 noon. The water is very stained with the dying algae, making bass bed watching all but impossible or now. The bass I caught were very healthy and plump.
      City: Los Angeles

Tips: Very early in the morning it didn't seem to matter what color or size plastic worm I was using. But as the day wore on my 4 inch Power worm is all they would bite.

      Water Temp: 61-62

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I really enjoyed mysel at Clear Lake Thursday aternoon and Friday! I ished by mysel Thurs, starting about 11:30 am. It was very cloudy and breezy all day, making looking around or ish nearly impossible. I polked around some new areas, only catching a ew small ones. I talked to several ishermen and they were only catching smaller bass that day except or two ladies that had a beautiul 8-9 caught near the wine cellar. Finally I went to a standard Senko (194) and caught a 4-6 in some tules south o Buckingham. Trying dierent colors, I caught my irst-ever on a black/blue Senko - about 3 pounds. I went into Konocti Bay and decided to pitch a sour grape big brush hog into isolated tule patches. The color just seemed right to me and soon to a big bass that just started to move away with it - no bite! She came out o the water three times while I rantically tried to extend my net that, o course, wasn't ready. So I guess you call it hal a net-job, but I got all 8 lbs 2 oz o her in the boat!! This was about 4:30 PM. I still say it is a bigger thrill to hook the monsters that you can't see! I said thank you and put her right back ater a nice man on a nearby dock took a photo.Friday morning I had a great client that wanted to learn to ish the Red Bud area. Ater ishing Indian Island to no avail, I decided to show him Cache Creek - an area that I don't guide in much. I was hoping Dee Thomas, Pat, and Wayne had let a ew ater their tournaments. They did - we were lipping brush hogs and jigs. My black/purple/blue Weapon jig with a junebug Madman Craw trailer was what they wanted - I got a 4-4 and nearly had my arm jerked o as a 6-7 just crushed it!!! My client had a bite and missed it. Since this was a 6 hour trip we had to look at some main lake areas and he caught his irst sight ish - a small male. He was using a chartruese tube bait. We also got one over 3 lbs. I went back to M&M campground or a quick nap and started with one o my avorite clients at 6 PM. I was hoping night ishing would be better than it has - and it was! We would have had a great weight i I hadn't dumped an 8 plus at the boat. We wound up with 8 bass or a 5 best at 26 1/2 lbs. I wanted a 30 lb limit bad. I lost the big one on a brown/orange Weapon jig with a Madman Craw, but elt better when I soon landed a 6-14 on the same jig. That one bit - the other was hal-way to the boat beore I knew it. By the time I set the hook it was too late. How do thay do that? Ater dark, I had my client using the junebug Dead Ringer worm, and it continued to produce well. He got many more bites than did I. The jig did get another quality 5 pounder or me. He got a ew 3's and a nice 4-5. Though the ishing was ok, I really wanted him to stick a good one. About 1:30 am I saw him throw the worm ar back into the tules and soon set the hook. This ish didn't move and I jumped or the net! Parting tules, jumping bass with water everywhere in the blacklight is a cool sight!!! This bass is everywhere but I got all 6 lbs 9 oz o her in the net. What a way to end the trip. This was one o his biggest bass ever. Both o these gentlemen are ishing Clear Lake today (Sat) and I wish them well!
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Swimbaits and jigs are producing some o the biggest bass caught recently. The slime is a problem or jig ishermen - but I think the results are worth it. Senkos are starting to work, but at a little slower pace than last year. You may have to look a little deeper or the beds - they are using many o the same ones as last year and the lake is higher. I've seen some real deep beds this year (south end). Clouds and wind will make it tough i you want to sight ish. Good polaroid glasses are a must.
