    • Water Temp: 81-84

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I have the grandsons for a few days so I took them to Oroville. We didn't wet a line until 9:30, really tough to get 2 guys less than 10 years old moving. We started out in the middle fork with drop shot and wacky senkos and landed 12 to 15 dinks. They would rather swim than fish. We moved to the middle fork around 11 and I landed 5 more 10-12" fish on dartheads and drop shot while they went swimming again. Their grandmother was the life guard although she did catch a couple of senko fish earlier.
Pulled off around noon. Ramp was getting crowded and I had to wait to pull out.

Not like 5 weeks ago when the bite was hot and 50 to 100 fish wasn't all that hard.
Lake is of course down 90' from full and holding but I still have guys asking why? I guess no one reads a paper or watches the news.

Tips: Best colors Roboworm Morning dawn and KVD Chart/blue dream shot. The 3 to 4 fish on the senko hit 4" in white.

    • Water Temp: 77 to 83.5

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: The long 4th of July weekend was great for fishing. I went out with KG and Casey and they had a good time catching fish and swimming (see photos). Next day I went out with my buddy Albert and we ended up with a limit of quality bass weighing up to three pounds eight ounces (see photos). The next day was a winner too (see photo). The last two days I fished with my son and daughter-in-law on my son's pontoon boat and we were catching bass left and right we had guests on board Lonny and his kids Lucy and Max who did a great job catching some nice bass (see photos). All in all it was a wonderful holiday weekend. 'Til next time...........................good fishing!!!!!

Tips: items that I have confidence in are square bill crank baits, pro cure scents, plin e green 6lb test, salt impregnated worms, and polaroid glasses

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished out of Russo Marina Yesterday- was on the water around 7:30 incoming tide. Fished the tues outside the marina using topwater frogs, had a couple of blow ups on a Ribbet rigged with a single hook. No takers. Caught one 2 pound LMB along the sea wall using a red/yellow crankbait. Moved across the marina but the tide was too low, bugs were everywhere, threw a frog for a while and had one taker but no connection. Moved into the major water by Little Franks and was hitting everything from dinks to 3 pounders using a jib weighted flappin' hog, and wacky rigged 5 inch Sticko from BPS. My buddy and I did about 3 runs down the same stretch and caught about 30+ fish between 10AM and 2PM. It wasn't that windy yesterday. The big boats were creating a little wave havoc as they were enroute to Mildred for the 4th of July. Sheriff's were out there too checking for licensing and boater safety.

      Tips: Throw everything at 'em.

    • Water Temp: 78.2-79.8

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday nights. I have to say that the bite is still going strong. Hit town Monday evening & got on the water at 11:30 PM. I brought my daughter with me & this was a teaching trip! The goal was to teach her new techniques as she has always fished with just Senkos, so she learned to throw jigs, Texas rig, & blades this trip as well as the fine art of netting fish! Monday was a learning experience as we missed quite a few fish. We landed 9 that night with the best at 7.5 that I got on as jig. It was also her second fish to net & she did very well. The rest were 2.5 - 3.5 on jigs, senkos & Texas.Tuesday night started late on account of the Giant's game going 14 innings. We hit the water at 12:30 AM & ran right into a bite. Once again the majority were in that 2.5 - 3.5 range but we managed a big of 5.11. We hung around to see if there was a topwater bite & we caught quite a few small ones on the Whopper Plopper fished at a steady retrieve. They didn't want the stop & go. We boated 27 fish. Wednesday night we had my bud Manny join us & the bite was still brisk! Same pattern, 2.5's to 3.5's with a few 4 lbers & a big of 5.7. Well, actually, the big was 15.14 lbs. on a jig, but unfortunately it had whiskers! I wish I had a video of my kid netting that one! She couldn't lift it in as it was a load! I lost count of how many we boated, somewhere after 30. The topwater bite was softer, but they were busting in the weeds. Went to get my trusty frog pole out of the locker & realized I left it in the garage after I had the boat recarpeted! I guess I'm getting old & forgetful! I threw a 6" senko & worked it like a frog, got a bunch of blowups, but couldn't get the hook into them! I'm gonna go out on a limb & say the frog bite would have been outstanding! We stayed in Konocti again as there wasn't any real reason to move. The jig bite was the best. My kid lost a few on the jig, but managed a pair of 4's with it. I posted a pic in the fishing forum. She also killed it on the senko, her go to throw. They were either taking the jig on the fall or smacking the heck out of it. They seemed to be all over the place. Got them anywhere from 5" to 25" of water. The Texas worked well on the weed edge line & the Senko around rocky stucture. We fished it slow & the colors were darks with either red or blue. Reaction was soft with a few blade fish & no crank fish at all. The water was a little warmer than I expected, but they were on it! We didn't get the big fish bites like last trip, but we caught more fish! I dug out some old Don Iovino snakes & cow tongues the old man & I fished in Mexico together eons ago in rhythm & blues fished Texas & they got a lot of fish. He still makes them. The jigs were black or black & blue with black blue sweet beavers for trailers. They also hit the Big Texan double wide as well. The weeds are still not that bad, the fishings hot, so if you get the chance to go, do it & be safe!

Tips: We fished the Texas at the edge of the weedlines & when you felt some resistence, we'd shake the bait, then pull slowly. Sometimes it was a fish swimming with it, or a fish would smack it after you shook it & pulled it free! The jigs we fished in rocky structure & got them in all depths. A bunch of times you'd either lose contact with it only to find a fish had swum under the boat with it or it would feel heavy & then your line starts moving sideways (weeds don't do that! lol) The Senkos were just tossed out there & they'd grab them. They seemed to prefer weightless Texas style as opposed to wacky. They like watermelon with black flake and rootbeer with all kinds of sparklies, I don't think they make it anymore as Jess used them all up! 6" was the ticket! The wind was not too bad, just the usual Clear Lake summer & the weather was gorgeous this week! We'll be back in a few weeks! (Don't forget your frog pole!!!)

    • Water Temp: 73-77

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Yesterday I took a father and his 15 yr old son to Berryessa and we had a fairly good post-spawn trip. Conditions were a little tough with a bluebird sky and calm water. Wind came up as we going back to Markley. The son struggled to catch many bass but dad did well since this was his first real bass trip. He caught several bass including the biggest largemouth of the day - at 4+ pounds. When? 12 noon of course!! I caught a largemouth at 3 1/2 lbs at 1 pm. Funny now many post-spawn quality bass will feed at noon. Even though we fished the narrows a lot and some of the west side of main body, they only caught two 2 lb smallies and a few undersize spots. Most of our quality bass were largemouth. Smallmouth usually get going a little later in the summer, Our best 5 was around 12 1/2 - 13 lbs.

Tips: I tried to get some topwater going but no takers. I had them worm fishing mostly since I could teach them to work the bottom better, and, worms are very effective in the post spawn. Aarons Magic, morning dawn, and shad colored Robo worms all worked well. The bigger bass were now a little deeper, down to 20 feet after last weeks heat spell. Most of our bass were found on points yesterday.

    • Water Temp: 80-81 degrees, elevation 812.69

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched about 5:30am at Lime Saddle, stopped fishing at 10am. Felt good being back after shipping last week during the heat wave. Couldn't bring my self to fish when that hot. Didn't do as well this week as past weeks, fish were smaller, but still plenty of them around. Only caught 23 fish this morning with all on the smaller side, best just 14 1/4" Banks are crawling with dinks, and or young fry. Me, I avoid fishing too shallow, most small fish and not looking to catch those tiny things. Water was 80-81 degrees in all the locations I fished, think the larger fish are hanging deeper where water is a tad cooler. My best fish hooked at about 30 foot or so. Just about all baits seem to work. Picture in fishing forum.

    • Water Temp: 73-76

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I went out to Clear Lake for the weekend at my Aunts house on the Lake. It was a family trip so I didn't get a ton of fishing in but the fishing I did was great. Got out for a couple hours both Saturday and sunday. I fished the south only Jago to Konocti. Off shore rock produced good numbers but not great quality. The bigger fish I did catch were on deeper docks. I threw drop shot, frogs and jigs (black and blue) and the jigs ended up being the bait that worked the best for me this trip. I only fished from 10-2 both days and I caught close to 50 fish during both days. Most of the fish were in the 2-3 pound range with a couple 5 plus (pictures are in the forums). All in all it was a great couple days on the lake I wish I would have got a little more time on the water but a great trip all in all. Glad to see the Jig bite is getting really good again.

    • Water Temp: 65 to 75

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: FIshed Trinity from Wed 21st thru Friday 23rd, did very well all days but weather was very hot...up by the tailings where the water was moving smallmouth were hitting plastics very well, evenings in the shallows by brush was very good with top water. Rapala Crankbaits worked well in the grass...fishing was good after dark as well we caught several decent fish on spinnerbaits. We never got on the water before 10am but I am sure the early morning topwater would be really good as well.

Tips: find some shallow brush and moving water

    • Water Temp: 85.5 thursday 73.8 sunday

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: This past week was super hot the water temperature was 85.5 degrees on Thursday and cooled down to 73.8 by Sunday. On Thursday I went out with Tommie and his son Brogan. What seemed a little unusual was there were no birds in the water as we left the marina. We started off by trolling along the rock wall towards Monticello Ski School and hooked up with a smallmouth bass along the way. I headed to the back of the Ski school and we tried different baits including minnows but were not landing bass with any size to them. Still not seeing any bird activity. It got really hot and we all decided it was time for a swim to cool down which we did (see photos). Feeling refreshed I headed towards the Narrows Tommie was throwing top water and got a roll over. Then he threw a spinner bait but had no bites. He changed to a lipless rattle trap and landed a nice bass. I went to one of my favorite secret spots and we saw bass breaking every where chasing bait fish but they had no interest in what we were casting out but it was fun watching them. On the way to the vine yards both Tommie and Brogan caught fish but still no birds anywhere on the water. We stopped several more times to get in the water the heat was terrible. Coming back on the west side to the marina still have not seen any birds. We had a great day and hope to do this again soon. The following morning I went out with Tim and in about an hour without leaving the marina and using plastics only we landed four nice fish up to three pounds (see photo). Next day I took Steven and Caesar out and saw a few BIRDS but not many. I used the same route as with Tommie and his son but landed more quality fish up to four and a half pounds. We made cool down stops at least five times during the day (see photos). 'til next time............................good fishing!!!!!!!

      Water Temp: 68-74

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Lake Oroville has been fishing great for the last 3 weeks, 40-70 fish days are very common right now and its a great time to get the kids on fish during the cooler hours of the morning and evening! Most all of the fish are done with the spawn with only a few stragglers left behind that are in the upper stretches of the middle fork and north fork. As most cases with Oroville the average fish is a spot between 1.25lbs and 2lbs. Top baits for numbers have been 5" Baby Bass and Natural Shad senkos, 6" Roboworms in Oxblood light red flake and Warmouth fished on a Dart head or shakey head and of course the 2.8" Keitech in Rainbow shad and Tennessee shad have produced very many fish lately. There have reports of several big large mouth being caught and a couple spots in the 4lb class, most of the bigger fish caught recently have been taken on top water baits like the River 2 Sea Rover, Vixen and the Rio Rico during the low light hours. we expect to see the deeper crankbait bite fire off any day now as there are many fish heading off shore to points, breaks and relating to the pond smelt. Top areas of the lake have been the South fork, upper stretch of the North Fork and the west Branch, expect the mouths of the arms to get better as we get deeper into summer and the night bite to be good with the next moon.

Its getting very hot so be prepared with lots of water and sunscreen and be on the look out for other recreational boaters, the heat has brought all the wakeboard boats out so keep an eye open. Be safe and good luck!

Lake Oroville is currently at 812'
Lime Saddle Marina, Bidwell Canyon and Loafer creek launch ramps are all open as of now.

Tips: Fish topwater early in the day over points. As the sun comes up switch to soft baits in shad patterns fished on the same points and also bluff walls or anything with a shade line. The prime depth has been 1'-15' for the last couple weeks.

    • Water Temp: 71-75

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: SO - clum - you caused the wind! I guided Thursday and Friday - day trips - with horrible wind both days, all day!! Huge rollers! Could only find some protected areas to fish. I had 3 clients on Thurs and they all caught a lot of bass - biggest at 5 lbs. All the dinks that had been pestering us have disappeared for the time being. They caught about 25 to 30 between them, many in the 3 to 4 lb range with a few bigger. Friday I had my 2 clients working the east side of the lower lake - trying to find some wind protected areas. I think the bass had the same idea since the bite was the best I have seen in recent memory. Clients started off at 6 am catching quality bass up to 4 1/2 lbs and the bite never stopped by the time we quit at 2 pm! I lost count of the bass they caught - well over 50 with only 1 dink! The limits were well over 20 lbs both days. Finally, these trips, only one or two crappie!! Nearly all the bass caught both days were from 3 to 15 feet - a few down to 20 feet. Bass were everywhere - docks, retaining walls, points, and weed edges. The weeds are forming but not bad yet. Lake is green at Red Bud area but fairly clear a little further north. We used 6 and 7 inch Robo worms most of the time with MM111 coming on strong! Morning Dawn is still good. Bass are beginning to look at beaver type baits also, along with the Yamamoto Flappin' Hog.

Tips: As clum found out - the night bite should get better as the months go by. When the weather settles and the water warms, topwater and frogs will come on strong, I could not figure out what caused the heavy winds both days. There was a small storm up north of the lake which could have caused the pressure change, and the winds. The nice thing was - air temp was only mid '80's both days!!

Report: Fished Dutch Slough. Left Big Break around 7:30 AM. Incoming tide, with high tide around 9:30. Fairly windy. Fished the adjacent sloughs until NOON before it hit 90 degrees. Caught a SWEET 6 pound LMB on a wacky stick-bait. My partner and I landed about 7 fish ranging from 2 pounds to 4. Wind started picking up and called it a day. Started throwing a frog but no action.

      Tips: Bring plenty of water.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got up here Sunday night & fished Monday, Tuesday night & Wednesday night. The lake is going off right now which is surprising as we arrived right after a small storm system. I can't tell how long this bite will last but it's been crazy the past few days. Brought my daughter this trip, caught around 30 Monday afternoon but they were all small 1.5 - 2.5 range. Got better at night best 5 going 22.2, lbs big fish was 6.9 but they were active. Tuesday was friggin nuts. Big jig bite, best 5 going 5.5, 6.11, 7.7, 7.9, & 9.5 for a 36 lbs 5 oz limit! We boated 23 & tanked a few more that might have been big. It was one of those nights when you set the hook, you know that it might be huge! They were strong, really heathy and active. Wednesday night was really windy & we had to work to keep the boat on our spots. Started pretty slow then picked up around 1:30 AM on Senkos & blades. We caught 12 in a few hours in the 2 - 3 lb range as we couldn't really concentrate on any given spot. At least they were still biting! We only fished south in Konocti this trip. The weeds aren't too bad yet, but with this upcoming heat wave, they should really bloom fast. The fish weren't all that deep, in the 5-8ft range. Jigs, Texas double wide & kinky beavers, senkos & blades all caught fish. Even got a few on crankbaits rolled slow. (used some Norman DD22's that I found in a drawer & threw them as I was fishing some really abrupt struture!) I don't know what this hot weather will bring, but if you get a chance to give it a try up here, stay safe & have a great time!

Tips: Every thing we fished, we fished slowly. Colors were some dark browns with red flakes (Big Texan!) They seemed to be in rocky structure & holding pretty close to shore. We were able to catch quite a few in each spot so they seem to be schooling up. They are in really good health with bright color & big bellies! I think that's why we didn't graph an abundance of bait fish; they're eating them up! The jig bite is great to run into, I think it will get better as the crawfish are now getting really active. We had to use heavy weights on Texas & jigs to deal with the wind. They picked up the bait & swam with it on occasion , so beware: that weed you think you're stuck on may very well be a big fish! All the reaction fish we caught hammered it, so pay attention or they will rip the rod out of your hands! Be back in a few weeks! Tight lines!

Report: Launched about 5:30 am today, stopped fishing about 10:10 am. Found fish again right off the dock where they sell gas, 12 fish right in the marina and my best fish of the day right at 15". Good bite, but about half the fish were smaller then past trips, lots of those 10-12" for some reason. Total 31 fish, one 15", two 14", 10-12 13-14", the rest dinks, taken in water 15 to 35 feet deep. Better fish came on the deeper side today. Water finally slowed dropping, hope the continue the water drop at this rate. Word is they are going to drop it to the 700 foot level before winter, old drought levels!! So sad Picture in fishing forum.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: This last Saturday I fished a small club tournament on Don Pedro. It had been months since the last time I was on the lake. I started of at the boat launch in Mocassin throwing topwater and had a few giant blowups without hooking up. Large walk-the-dog style baits will draw the attention of the larger bass at this time of the year. I pitched a small worm and caught a couple nice ones.

Once the sun was up I struggled to get anymore bites fishing slow. So, I decided to cover water with crankbaits and ripbaits. The bite was off the hook. I caught over 50-fish and never had to pick up the worm again. Many of them were small fish and I did not have a big weight. But, it was a great day to just get bites. I did loose a handful of better than average fish that would have given me a much better bag.

Tips: Cover water and fish with reaction baits. TAKE A KID FISHING! Put on a small shad patterned ripbait or crankbait and beat the bank.

Report: With the bass finishing their annual spawn and the water levels continually rising, finding areas where the fish are located has been a bit difficult. However, the quality of fish has been great. On most of our bass fishing guide trips we are landing at least one fish over 4-pounds and backing that with a handful of 2-pound fish.

The fishing report I have for Monday morning, is it was one of the best June days I've ever had bass fishing on New Melones. I did a half day trip on New Melones with a good friend of mine Rob Betsch. The night before I mentioned to him that getting a bunch of fish was not likely, but we would have a shot at a couple nice ones. We did and then some.
He started the morning with a 4-pound spotted bass that smashed a topwater lure. I boated a 4-pound largemouth tossing reaction baits. He threw out two casts later and caught a 5.5-pound largemouth. And I closed the day with a 7-pound spawned out giant. Wow! We only had a dozen bites, but most were larger than average fish.

On Tuesday I had the pleasure of guiding Jake Robinson and his daughter Shiloh for an evening trip. The lake was beautiful and we traveled to the main river arm. Shiloh out fished us both and wanted to keep fishing when it was time to leave.
Friday morning I picked up Cash and Jaxon for some early morning bassin’. We started with some small swimbaits, topwater and ring-tailed worms. About twenty minutes into the morning, Cash had a quality spotted bass that absolutely crushed his Whopper Plopper 90. The next stop Jackson hauled in a nice largemouth that inhaled a sunfish patterned worm as he swam it back to the boat.

When is the best time to go fishing? Any time you can!

Tips: Keep an eye out for the next best thing to go under water. The fish will continue to pull up on freshly flooded structure as the water continues to rise.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Hit the water a little after 5:30 am and ran down the main lake. Wind was blowing 10-20 all day. Tried several top water baits for the first hour, but nothing. Partner was catching a few on a dropshot around the trees. As the day progressed we caught most of our fish using plastics in the 10' range. Tried reaction baits throughout the day and finally caught a 3.4 lb largemouth using a crankbait. We used a variety of plastics from dropshot, beavers, and brush hogs. Best fish was a 4.5 and best 5 for about 16lbs. Not too bad of a day, but very windy.

Tips: Plastics around the wood from shore out to 20'. Lighter colors worked better.
