      Report: fished tourney Sat 11-8. Pretty good action all day. Weather was perfect. Every single fish caught of graph at depths from 25 to 50 ft.

      Tips: Don't pound the banks. the fish are deeper.

      Report: Tossed worms today with Jeff, weird start. Going to meet at Bidwell, to our surprise, ramp was closed, so went to the spillway to launch. Finally got on the water a tad past 8am, hit a point fairly close to the launch ramp and got a few spots, 30 foot or so down. Wind blowing pretty good, so left to fish a spot without the blow. Fished a steep bank and got 6-8 fish, maybe more, again most fish around the 30 foot mark. Left to another point and got more fish, same, about 30-35 foot mark. Left to fish our first point going in and got a few more. No big fish, top mark about 14 1/2", most looking fat. We ended up with 21 fish for our half day trip. They were trying to fix the ramp up when we got back, laying gravel, getting the mud gone. Should last a few days!!

      Tips: When you find fish, stay on that location and give it a chance for more fish. Fish deeper and slower this time of year. We have not fished less then 25 feet down these days. Today we used Carolina rigs with no noise maker, just weight and bobber stoppers. Me, I like to fish straight down, less hang ups.

      Report: fished 6am to 12 noon, second cast on a whopper plopped BLAM!!#@ fish on 2lber then fished stanly blvd cranking caught a few nothing big. fished the pan handle and the cove near the second dock no luck. lost a fish on a trout pattern crank off about 10+ ft maybe bass but have had trout grab my baits fish in for bass.

      Tips: Get out there and fish for bass. Follow the trout and the fisherman after the trout. there are hefty hawgs in there.

      Report: Mike Sperbeck and I made our final trip for the year Wed and Thurs, and found the fishing to be simply great (as well as the weather) - especially the second day as the storm clouds were approaching. The lake was as flat as I have ever seen it with heavy fog in the early morning. The fishing might have been as good as I have every seen it - during the day. We spend both days on the east shore fishing mostly off-shore structure - some of it now good since the lake is down 18+ feet. As last year, we caught fish at all depths, this year from 13 to 60 feet!! While we could not break 4 lbs, we caught more 3 to 3 3/4 lb smallies than I have ever seen in one trip. We used a variety of small plastics, mostly in green and brown colors. I tried spooning for the first time and caught several on a 3/4 ounce Blade Runner spoon. Could not get much of a Senko bite and only a few on a jig. Our best five for the second day weighed between 17 1/2 to 18 lbs. Again, these are some of the most gorgous, hard fighting smallies in the state!

      Tips: Again - a warning about Almanor wind!! As mentioned, Thurs the lake was as calm as I have ever seen it - something like Clear Lake on a cold winter night. About 4 pm at little breeze picked up from the west - in about 5 minutes - shifted to the south. We were up near Big Cove. I just had a feeling - maybe the Lord spoke to me - we needed to get back to the dam - quick! "Reel in Mike - we're outta here!" We immediately hit the Almanor version of the famous Tahoe "black line!" Always beware of afternoon storm winds - Almanor is a big, open water lake! A very bumpy end to a great trip. Man, I love my Ranger Z521!!!

      Report: Tossed worms today on my weekly fishing trip today. Slow bite again, only 11 fish for my half day trip and nothing over 14 1/2". Fish were a tad deeper today, all fish from 30 feet to 40 feet, most about 35 feet. Lake is 237 feet down from full pool.

      Report: Tossed worms from 7am to 11 am today, didn't do so good this trip. Just couldn't find the fish, other then the basic one here and there fishing. Only got 11 spots today, all the basic 13-14". Wondering where are the fish today. All fish taken off points in about 30 ft of water. No cove fish,or boulder fish. Better days next week.

      Report: Friday I went out with Bob and boy what a great time we had!!! At first we were catching small bass but it was a lot of fun almost every cast brought a fish in. We were using P & K lures and they were great. Bob's largest bass was 5+ pounds (see photo). The following morning I took Rich out to show him the lake and some of my favorite spots to fish. He caught four nice small mouth bass. We spent most of the day exploring the lake from the Narrows to the Boy Scout Camp area and from Big Island to Spanish Flat. He was marking the waypoints for future reference while the water is low. Late afternoon I took my buddy Marvin out and headed towards the ranch house where I had seen huge bait balls earlier. We went back and forth through the bait balls and landed 21 bass ranging from 2.5 to 4 pounds each constantly culling the bass till we had 10 nice size fish (see photos). The following day Marv and I headed out again but the water which had been like glass the day before was now white caps with three foot swells. I tried to find a decent place to shelter the boat but it didn't work the water was too rough. We took our time to get to the Narrows but it was bad everywhere. I took a chance and went to a cove near the ranch house I thought would be ideal. It was still rough but manageable and we landed 32 bass from 2 to 5 pounds it was a fishing frenzy we had at least five double hookups here Marv had to net his fish and then mine because I couldn't leave the steering wheel go(see photos). What an incredible few days of fishing!!! My buddy Albert was fishing from the shore with two rods, one set up for bass and one for catfish. He didn't do great on bass but he landed a 17.5 pound catfish (see photo). Good job Albert!!!! "til next time........................good fishing!!!!!

      Report: Fished from Franks to Potato slough. Got about 15-20 combo fish, but they were all small with nothing over 2lbs, including the stirpers.       Tips: In the early a.m. topwater walking baits will help you locate schoolie stripers. Wish I knew what was doing to give you more tips.

      Report: Fished Friday, started at the dam a got a smallie on topwater 2.5 lb and couldn't get any to eat after that. Dropshoted the rest of the day for a handful of smallies and largemouth the rest of the day. Beautiful to be out... Go Fish!

      Report: A few largemouth and token stripers to 3# all cranking shelves, drops and/or rock. Fished mid-lake south. Lots of striper boils but all schoolies. I wasn't interested after the 1st one. Guys specifically targeting them were using soft plastics on jig. Find the 3 inch baitfish on the surface in the calm water and you'd find the stripers. Water down maybe 5 feet. Weeds gone and tules high and dry. South end visibility 2 feet and 10 feet in Swallow Bay.

      Report: Tossed worms from 7am to about 11am, a little slower bite today, with 22 spots. Only one larger one right at 15 1/2", good part, 3/4 of the fish were 14-14 1/2" size, very few smaller ones. Fish were on the move, some old honey holes, no fish!! Fish were in the 25 foot to 35 foot range, seemed most right at 30 foot. Fish slow, slow and in the range above and you will catch fish.

      Report: What a difference a week makes...and all the other factors (weather, moon, tide, floating weed "South American Spongeplant"), I googled it and that's what it's called... Anyways, launched early dark about 6am out of B&W cuz there were some striper guys gettin' ready for a derby so figured we better get launched. Went straight to Potato Slough and started off great... threw a sweet beaver to the rockwall and a 3.6 immediately inhaled it. Really thought it was gonna be on but only managed about 20 dink to 11"ers for that wall. Moved across and worked opposite rock wall but the wind on both sides made it difficult to maintain our deepv with only 55lb thrust. Yeah, someday I'll have an ultimate bass boat but till then, it's deepvbassin'! So anyways, back to today's fishin'.... changed to senko and picked up a few more 1 and 2lbers, about 5 I think....and probably another 15-20 spunky 8-11inchers. Off the water by 1pm.

      Tips: Not really qualified to give tips... and today, what landed plenty of 2-3lbers last 2 weekends only got us 1 limit of keepers today between my bud and me. I used watermelon/red sweet beaver with red claws T-rigged with 1/4oz bullet w/bobber stop. Then switched to 5" watermelon/red Big Bite Baits Trick Stick both t-rigged and wacky... 25pk is cheap at Tackle Warehouse and these last longer than Senkos...I guess that could be my tip...BBB trick stick from TW 25/$5.99 :) Tryin again Sunday!

      Report: Tossed worms today from about 6:30 am to 11 am. I managed 19 fish today, with the largest spots going 17 1/2", 16", 15 1/2" and 15", all the rest the basic 12-14 inch size. All fish came from 25-35 feet of water, with the larger fish on the deeper side. Fish were not in the mood to bite well today, big old moon all night.

      Report: I fished Amador again Fri late afternoon 'til midnight, and Sat morning early. The night bite was dead, maybe because the bass are starting to feed on the surface evenings and mornings. Topwater bite was fun as I would chase the schools of feeding bass which would appear here and there!! I hooked several nice fish but couldn't get them to hold on. I boated two 14 inchers. Sat morning found the bass not quite as active, but they stayed on the hook! I landed 5 for about 12 or 13 lbs - biggest at 3 lbs. no big ones.

      Tips: Bass seemed to be most active in the main body areas - over deep water. Sometimes I forget how really deep Amador is for a small lake. I still found water at 113 feet deep!! I mostly fished poppers like Chug Bugs. I threw a buzzbait quite a bit at dusk with no takes. The bass seemed to shutoff at dusk - sort of a surprise.

      Report: Went out with Albert and Bob for a fun day of fishing. Found a great spot near the BOR that we fished for about three hours mostly top water where we were catching bass left and right. Most of the bass were small but it was a lot of fun. When the sun set I went through the bait balls and the bass we caught were all nice size from 2.5 to 4 pounds. It was a really great day! The following day I took Sunshine and Fabian out and I decided to go back to the same spot as the day before since we had done so well. We hooked a fish almost every other cast and the boys were very excited. Fabian had a good hit and as he reeled it in we saw the fish at the boat and it was a really nice size my bad I didn't have the net ready and he lifted the fish out of the water and it shook loose and was gone. On the way home the boys landed some nice fish from 2 to 3.5 pounds (see photos). Sunshine's Dad called me to thank me for taking the boys out and said they were still talking about the fun they had fishing with me.

      Report: My wife and I took a mini-vacation to beautiful Lake Almanor over the weekend, dragging the Ranger boat all the way! As usual - timing was suspect as it was cloudy with rain showers most of the time. The lake is down about 18 feet and got to see lots of "new" stumps!!! Went out Fri evening and found the bite to be good with small bass biting everywhere! I did land one of the better bites - smallie went 3 1/4 pounds! Those "tall" smallies impress me all the time - with light line it took me nearly 5 minutes to land that fish. One doesn't want to rush then to the net because one never knows just how big they might be!! Didn't even go out Sat - just too nasty. Sunday afternoon was better, so I fished the east side of the lake on the bank and some off-shore - dragging and casting Robo worms and Senkos! I had very few bites but two were very nice (see photo section), weighing in at just under 7 lbs for combined weight. Buddy Mike Sperbeck joined me on Monday for some post-front fishing. Lake was dead flat calm until late afternoon which helped the evening bite. Overall bite was quite slow with only 3 from 2 to 2 1/2 lbs. In think we landed about 15 bass total, mostly 1 1/4 to 2 lbs. Small beavers and 6" Robo worms worked best. I caught one surface smallie the was 1 inch longer than the Chug Bug!! Three quality smallies always make the trip worthwhile! A good bite should last another month, maybe.

      Tips: Until the lake comes up some, keep your eyes on the meter - especially on the west side. Some of the flats are REALLY flat now - and shallow!! Bass are spitting up pond smelt now. I didn't try any jigs this trip for some reason. The smallies were moving quite a bit while I was there - probably because of the weather.
