Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: This is actually a question I hope someone who ishes Castaic can answer. I have ished Castaic or some years and have caught plenty o Large Mouth Bass (catch and release o course). I have heard many people talk about the stripers. For the lie o me, I've tried or them stripers but had no luck. Does antone have any tips they would like to share on how to catch them stripers? Oh, and while you're at it, any tips on where on can ind them crappie in Castaic?
City: ArletaTips: Try using green color 3 inch reepers and cast near the shoreline when the water has low clarity. Finesse it with a Carolina Rig.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Here we go or a irst day o the season.....The water is down somewhat or this time o the year, but the visiblty is very good. The main enemy o a good day on the water is the #@%*#!! wind! You will need to be on the water early now to avoid this problem. I got out there very late (11:00am) and by then it was howling! The air pressure was dropping and continued to do so(28.50 to 28.30) which just shut o the bite entirely. The wind inely laid down at 4:00pm and things looked good but I had to leave then. The only saving grace was the stocked trout were on the bite, we nailed 8 ish and lost some as well.
City: Los AngelesTips: When things are as slow as this sometimes having ANY ish pull on your line is better than NO ish! The stocked trout are now back in small cove areas trying to hide rom the big ish who like to eat them. Small kastmasters and mini-jigs w/a split shot will get you bit i your hurting or a bite o some type! Good luck!

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Eh, this is not so much a ish report as a response to Mr. Olin Rushin response to my comments on him getting asked to go to another part o the lake last December because o a ilm crew being out there. I BELEIVE YOU, Mr. Rushin!!!!! I DID as soon as I read your report!! You missed the point! What I was saying is that NO ONE should be asked to leave the lake because a ilm crew is out there! I am certain that (because it a public waterway)that there where some rules broken there. What I'm saying is, should this happen again and again then isherman need to raise a big stink about it! I hope this will make Mr. Rushin eel much better! By the way guy, you need to get out and ish more!! Whew!!
City: los angelesTips: The ish are moving closer, i the good weather holds we should see some banner days soon!

Report: I have been ishing castaic or the last ew days preparing or a ABA tourney. On Friday the 28th caught a ew ish on jigs and split shot worms in 15-30 t o water. Metered a lot o ish suspended in 30t. Went back on Sunday the 30th, but this day was tough and cold. A ront moved in later in the aternoon and it rained! We didn't get bite all day and could hardly meter any ish. Moved up to some clis and ound schools o ish had moved into shallow water but would not hit anything we threw at them. So we looked shallow the rest o the day and say so many bass shallow but they all wouldn't hit anything. On 1-5-02, we ished the ABA tourney with 90 plus boats. We got skunked but lwearned that the ish had moved deep water. Guys were catching their ish anywhere rom 40 to 70 t o water on little georges and spoons. The winning weight was around 19 plus pounds topped by a 5.60 pounder.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Got out to the lake around 9:00 a.m. let at 4:00 p.m. I've been trying to catch one o a pod o big bass (8-12lbs I'd guess)that seem to stage at the same spot every year in December. They are really skittish in about 5 eet o water with close access to deep water. Haven't igured it out yet. I've used live bait, all artiicials, light line, small hook, slowwwwwwwwww presentation, and keeping out o sight. I have had them VERY interested but not take it YET. I am beginning to question my bass ishing skills, or lack thereo. I will catch one this year and I'll keep you posted.
City: Los AngelesTips: Fish slowwwwww.

Report: Dear Mr, Watkins,I you think my story is bogus about ask being to go to another part o the lake or the ilm company on 11/01/01.Beore you contract oot in mouth desease, Why dont you do some research ie;ask the lie guards i they know o any ilming on the lake, particularly on that date, then ask i they have ever ask anyone to move to another part o the lake or ilming.Go to the main gate and ask about their reund policy.Yea Mike, I dont have anything better to do than to make up "B.S." stories.Mike,do you work or the Castaic Water Agency?P.S.In a couple o years, start takeing a can o corn nibblets with you to Castaic.....I hear CARP LOVE IT!
City: Canyon Country,Tips: Ask at the gate when you pay about any ilm production on that day, it may save you the hassle o reloading your boat, going to another lake and shelling out another $12.00 or $14.00 or you can e-mail Mike, mabey he will reund your money.....

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: A storm ront had moved in early that morning and rained until past noon. I had planned this trip with my pastor since october so, a little rain was not going to deter us. We hit the lake a little ater sunrise and the air temp was 41 degrees. With the wind chill, it elt a lot colder. We ished coves in the ski arm the irst hal o the day. I was throwing white lukes over weed beds and drop shotted a 3" salt/pepper reaper o steep walls. My pastor had never ished this lake beore and was throwing texas rigged plastics. I caught two ish on each method. My pastor got skunked. He didn't change up until ater I caught a ew ish. Biggest went 2.4 lbs. The sun came out in the aternoon ater we took a break to thaw out our hands which were very numb rom the wind and rain. The ish were still biting in the sunlight. We ished the banks near the east ramp the second hal. It was a cold trip but a lot o un.
City: CerritosTips: Used 6lb Maxima with a #4 Owner Mosquito nose hook or the drop-shot and 10lb Maxima with a 4/0Gamakatsu o-set worm hook on a weighted white Zoom super luke.

Report: launched @ sunrise (much too late or early stripers),proceeded to hit the second cove on ish arm. First castat a secondary point (28' depth), 3 1/2 sucked up my pig n jig. A couple o casts later my partner hooked a solid ishon a 6" robo worm .The weed line is still very thick , trypitching right at the edge o the weed line (20' - 30')rom shoreline. We had 7 ish in boat by 8:30 am, the biteseemed to cut o drastically as the sun broke thru. A couple o weeks o cooler weather should thin out the cabbage and the bite should explode. The big boys should be staging thats when anchors and bait will shine! By the way this lake is due or a big ish , and I think this might be the year!
City: s valleyTips: light line - dart heads on all secondary points, cant miss!small white spinnerbaits at the weed line another proven!

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Eh, I have just read Olin Rushin's ish report or Nov. 1st. First o all, I think it's B.S. that the lake personal would ask a ANYONE to pack up and go elsewhere on the lake because they "RENTED" the lake to a ilm crew! I that's true than there needs to be some issues raised with state authorities due to the act that the lake is part o the Caliornia state park system! Secondly, i your looking to be ined or jailed or both (including having your boat and gear coniscated) go ahead and ish with live gold ish! It's ILLEGAL olks!!!!! Read the state ishing regulation booket!!!!! Transporting ish that are NOT native to the water system (or any LIVE ish or that matter)into a body o water is really asking or the above to happen to you! I would suggest ignoring Olin's tips.
