Report: Gold Coast Bass Tourney -- 17 Boats - White Oak Launch - Blastoff @6:02 - Weigh in @ Noon

Surprise weather conditions as the 112o temps two days before, were down to the pleasant 80's with high cloud cover. Partner and I headed towards the 1st boat ramp amile in towards the narrows and started with top water. No takers and we were really surprised that we saw no fish breaking the surface. Elected to hit it up and down on a two pass, then decided that the bite was off and headed towards Jackass. Picked up a nice 3-8 and several dinks on drop shot and weightless with a small sized Sweet Beaver. Several boats came in and left with nothing to show and conversations with other boaters were saying the same -- Seemed like the fish in this area shut down. Well, in other areas it was was a good day for the boaters.

1st place in with 11.99, 2nd in with 11.94 and second also took big fish with a really nice 6.8 -- We finished a distant 10th and was a let down compaired to last weeks good weigh in.
      City: Santa Maria

Tips: Drop was working but the area we were in was slow. Some were hitting towards the store areas and the walls back in the narrows but never did get a positive location -- Will know where later Monday.

Report: RESULTS FOR GOLD COAST BASS TOURNEY --

Looks to be a great day and a quick count indicates about 16-18 boats for this open tourney.

Blastoff at 5:47AM -- My partner and I headed for the back of the bridge area looking for that great biteof 2 weeks before. Hit the top water with Rico's, spooks. Sammies and blades with only minimal takers. Lost a nice one on my Rico as it headed to a bush and got wrapped up. Before I could work it out, she broke off... Boo Hoo -- Was a sad one as we needed that weightbut 20 minutes later, I saw my Rico floating near the same tree area so -- Oh Well, at least the Rico's is in my box!

Headed out towards the bridge hitting a nice Smallie keeper on a Spider grub on a Black Jig head. With no more response we elected to head off to our second spot, the Dam area.

Tossed a few cranks and blades with no takers. Grabbed the 'drop-shot' and tossed out in the drop off just passed the brushline. Partner hit a good keeper, then another a few minutes later another good 3 pounder for the well. I tossed into the brush where I pulled out the 5 and 4 a week before but nothing was active so we puled off into 25 foot of water and started droppin again. With only 1/2 hour left, partner yanked in another keeper letting us 'cull' our #3 fish. Finally, with only 10 minutes left before heading back to weighin,I landed a very nice 3-4 to add to the tank.

FINAL -- 1st place in at 12.78, Second in at 12.35, 3rd in at 12.06 and my partner and I in 4th at 11.80-- Big fish was 3.88.. So all in all, partner and I faied out nice with only a few ounces from taken home the $650 plus winners share and the $120 big fish share.
      City: Santa Maria

Tips: Dam area produced the better fish and nice 2-3 pound smallies on Sweet Beaver watermelon and Robo Ox blood red flake and People Worms dropshot. Rico's were hot in the early morning and jigs were doing well back in Arroyo Grande arm.

Kept throwing the ol' white spinnerbait, didn't even tie on any soft plastics. Quite a bit of bass chasing shad all over the lake. Did best near main lake shorelines. Storm wind was from north in P.M. Able to 'cast to boils' then wham!! Went over to Firebreak Cove and caught 4 3 lbers casting to boils. Ended up with total of 8 bass mostly chunky 3 lbers. Caught a couple small stripers too. Have Fun out here !!
      City: Oak Park

Tips: Bass chasing shad/fry pattern ... best near grass beds and main lake shorelines. Spinnerbait still working pretty good.

Report: Last weekend to pre-fish for the 22nd Open Tourney .

5:45AM launch and we headed to the walls and points just to the north of the marina entrance. Some light wind but the weather is warm. Hit some decent larges on Rico's, sammies, pop r's and Z-pop's and a few Strike King blades but nothing over 12 inch. Headed towards the dam area and got into some smallies on drop shot and cranks. Eased off and headed towards Vasquez and found a [sweet spot] I wont brag about and hit a 5-8 and a 4-6 on a peoples worm within 5 minutes and 100 feet of each other. OK -- Time to leave this sweet spot alone until this weekend . Finally -- An afternoon bite location that will work for sure!
      City: Santa Maria

Tips: Picked up a few smallies that were 'spittin' up craws when I was removing hooks... Keep that one in mind.. People worms and a Summer Shad Robo worked. Lots of smaller larges feeding on top at Vasquez ientrance on the points. Huge amounts of shad in the area!

      Water Temp: 80 Degrees

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished Castaic Friday 9:30 - 5:30. SW Winds 20mph forecasted never happened. Some breezes. Stuck with spinnerbait fishing all day. Ended up with 7 keepers. 2 - 4 lb, 3 - 3 lb., 2 - 2lb. These fish were a lot meaner than what I have been catching past few weeks. Thought they were all stripers the way they hammered the s.b. and tore off toward parts unknown. All caught on white skirt silver willow leaf.
      City: Oak Park

Tips: Fish main lake wind blown shorelines and 'cups' that make easy ambush locations for bass. Didn't have much luck in backs of coves. Also, target stick ups near off color water. If you see fry jumping around you are in a good spot. Have fun!!
