Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: A pre-fish day to locate where and what at the Windy City Lake of Lopez --

Was surprised that the traffic wasn't as bad as predicted but still, the wind was up in the afternoon once again.

Hit the bridge area and for about a solid hour, top water was the rule and the fish were slammin Rico's, chartarusse blades and Z-pops' with a very nice 4+ smallie on a spook. After that hour -- Shut down time. I mean it was OFF!
Hit the concrete bridge with one fair size large then nothing so moved off at hit for the open water at the end of the lake to the North. Nothing but a few smallies to brag about as the top water was off. Charted fish between 20 and 30 feet but only one taker on a dropshot. Attributed the wind as we just couldn't hold a decent speed even with the trolling motor set at 6. Wind was giving everyone we chatted with big fits as it just shut the bite off. Some good keepers at Whittenberg reed areas but really no afternoon bite. Try again this Sunday.
      City: Santa Maria

Tips: Top water baits were king -- Trout colored popr's worked well as did a shad sammy and a pearl melon Z pop on a few. If you guys have a good afternoon spot for a windy day -- An area would be a nice clue! If so -- I thank you in advance for the tip...

      Water Temp: 77-80

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished from 7AM till about 1:30PM. Lake wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be. Went straight across from the Marina and got a few small spots on Splash-Its and then a couple more on spinnerbaits. Then went to Bee Rock and got a couple more on shaky head worms. Got another nice spot on a Revenge underspin with a Yamamoto grub on it. Missed another one under a dock fishing a Senko. Went to the big point at the entrance to Las Tablas and fished the drop off with a Carolina Rig and jigging spoon. Got about 10 more spots with the largest going about 2.5lbs. Good numbers but hard to find any size.
      City: Monterey

Tips: Look for off shore structure and use C-Rigs or spoons or maybe deep diving cranks for some bigger spots.

      Water Temp: 82 to 84

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Night fishing here is starting to pick up on bass and crappie. Lots of areas to hit here bass are holding on humps in 12 to 20 feet of water jigs brushogs and some spinnerbait action are taking bass in the 14 to 17 inch range. Crappie are falling to red/white crappie jigs in the 5 mph area around trees under the lights. Best time to start fishing is from 5 pm till after midnight.
      City: kerman ca.

Tips: For bass humps flats deeper water also long points with deeper on both sides 1/4 oz bullet head silicone in brown/black with watermelon single tail 5" yamamoto work well. Crappie after dark under the lights also a few trout are hitting the crappie jigs and some trout are in the 16 to 18 inch range. Lights are the key for the crappie.

Report: !! W I N D !! If you were a kite, this was the place to be today. Wind was really whippin and really, no place to hide at all! Went into Vasquez with some sweet beaver texas set-up and hit only a fair sized LG mouth. Headed to the back of the 5mph zone passed the last dock and started with top water. Not to many takers and it seemed like the day was not going well. Charted fish in the 30 foot range so moved off to deeper water but up comong winds forced my small Ol Blue around in spots I didn't care to be so I moved off and headed back towards the end of Vasquez again. Wind getting worse and I ended up pulling under a tree and trying off a 20 foot line to hold the boat more steady in open water. Hit three smaller LG's on senko's but wind was playing havoc. Headed to the marina and back towards the bridge. Talked with a few guys that were there early and said that the top water was good choice. Headed straight to the back of ther toolies past the bridge and used a few cranks and blades. Hit one nice 3 pound but that was all. Called it a 'windy' day and headed back to the launch and home. Try it again earlier next Sunday.
      City: Santa Maria

Tips: Top water lures passed the bridge was working in early AM hours, then jigs in the stickups.

Report: Ventura bass club had a night tournament at Irvine just to change it up. Started at 6pm and went to 2am. At first there was a lot fo boats everywhere - and the bite was a little slow. Caugth a couple dropshoting rock bluffs with oxblood 6". Caugth a couple on spinnerbait before dark - dinks. Once it got dark the bite came on. We ended up catching 30+ bass mostly 1.10lbs and a couple over 2lbs. We caught most on Norman crankbaits in Dark blue w/ flake or dark red w/ flake on the left bank coming out of the marnia. We would fish all the way down to the damn then go back the other direction. After midnight found a great bite on buzzbait on the bank near the fence post area. THey were just slamming it - black or white - didn't matter what color buzz.
      City: Oak View

Tips: Whatever reaction bait you like, throw it - They will slam it - good luck

      Water Temp: 77-80

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished from 7:30PM till about 12AM. Launched and went straight to the entrance of Las Tablas. Threw shaky heads but no takers. Went back up lake to Bee Rock and threw big Norman DD-14 cranks, and they started crushing it. Got some nice spots and about a 2.5lb white bass as well. Also got some good fish on a Cultiva jerkbait in baby bass color. Then went to throwing big black and blue single colorado bladed spinnerbaits on 30lb braid and the real fun began.
      City: Monterey

Tips: Fish were hanging around the rocky points where the water was about 3-4 degrees cooler. It was 77 at Bee Rock and 81 near the docks. Didn't get a single fish that wasn't near the rocky points near deep water. Throw cranks and bang 'em into the rocks.

Report: Fresno Bass Club participated with the F&G and others to catch as many smallmouth as they could. They are overcrowed and stunted. I took my wife and daughter. We had a blast. Although we only caught 25, most we heard of caught many more. There were 30 boats with 71 anglers. We caught 1,400 smallies, 1,200 of These will be transplanted to Pine Flat and start a growth rate a whole lot better than the environment they are in now. Used ultra light tackle and crickets and plastic - what a lot of fun. Doin it again in August.
I believe the kokes are there just to feed other fish anyway.
      City: Fresno

Tips: Crickets, small ripbaits, small grubs, small worms. Dropshot worked.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished one cove for 4 days, caught between 100-150 fish. Most fish caught on a green senko. On day four much to my suprise I landed a 4.5lb largemouth. Thats righy, I said largemouth!!! Fought it for 1/2 hour. It was so big we used a gaff to get it in the boat, photographed it, sewed up the hole, gave it a few antibotics and set it loose in the woods. OK OK we didn't have any antibotics but everything else is true. I caught my fish on a chartruse senko mounted on a small crappie jig head.
      City: Paso Robles

Tips: Go out with someone that really knows the lake because you might not pick the right cove. Anyone ever heard of a club named C.F.E.R.???

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: North end of lake is almost in full blown algae bloom. Lake is very, very full - lots of benches and tables submerged. Weeds are starting to reach the surface of the water in the coves. Lots and lots of wakeboarders and skiers. Fished the lake for the first time ever, should have just kept going to Naci. Fished from 7AM to 1PM. Caught 4 fish total, 2 keepers. 3 were smallies and 1 was a LM.
      City: Monterey

Tips: Got the short smallies on a jerkbait. The keepers both came on dropshot roboworms on main lake points and adjacent cliffs in 15 feet of water. If I were going again, I'd target mainly smallmouth. The keeper smallie went 2.2lbs and fought like a 5lb largemouth - fun stuff on light line and a spinning rod.
