Report: Had an amazingly fun day with my 8 year old daughter at Cottage Grove Lake. Got her up and out the door @ 5:38AM. Started fishing by about 6:15 and didn't get a bite for the first 2 hours. Good thing we got up so early. Tried a couple fairly reliable spots and was mildly suprised we didn't get bit. So we headed up shallow and broke out the bobbers and crawlers. We only brought a dozen of them and knew we'd be fishing 'till dusk so we tried to keep the pieces small. Steph caught her first Oregon bass finally- a whopping 3 incher. We had a little contest going with 5 categories: 1) first fish, 2) most fish, 3) big fish, 4) smallest fish and 5) most species caught. She won 2 categories with one 3" bass. By the time the day was over she won 4 categories and tied on the species one. We found 3 or 4 good spots and stayed with them for a couple hours each. Steph ended up outfishing me 31 to 13! I've been hearing it all week and she can't wait to go again. She got the biggest fish on her last cast- a 7" bright orange bellied fattie bluegill! Got some great photos and you should see her smile. She said this was the best fishing day ever. And I would pretty much have to agree. Take your kids fishing right now and take twice the bait you think you'll need just in case the bite is really on! My 5 year old boy is next up- wonder how bad he'll outfish me?
      City: yoncalla

Tips: Met a couple nice kids (Tyler and Josh) who were all over the lake in their leaky old driftboat. We saw them all over the place and they were really trying to catch some fish. If we'd brought more crawlers we'd have shared some with them but all we could offer them were some plastic worms and a couple hooks. They were out there fishing for at least 8 hours. Gotta admire their desire!!

Report: Fished this morning from 7:30 to Noon. Started out punchin' mats in white slough for a good bite on 1.5 to 3 pounders, with one fish pushing 5. Looking at fish busting bait in the channel, threw a Dirty Jigs swim jig and got a 4 pound striper. Threw the frog on mats for nothing. Motored down to dissapointment for more punchin' and flippin grass finding plenty more fish. Tide slacked, and called it quits 'fore the heat beat me and the pup up.
      City: Dixon

Tips: Find the current. Heavy punchin' weights, heavy braid, deep in the smutz. Hang on. Sweet Beavers in Cali420 and Sprayed Grass. Light 'em up!

Report: Big bro and me launched at New Hope 6:30, went straight to Mokulemne around the bend from B&W. Worked edges of weedline and tules with cranks (KVD 2.5/1.5 in blue gill and blkback/chart) for about 8each, best to about 3lbs or high 2s. Then tried back side of an island just before Sycamore working frogs on the snot mats...bro got a nice 3lber on a money hound..nothing on the frog. Went in at 1:30pm to a crowded ramp, got in trouble for using a reserved single car space to rig (I guess my truck stuck out a bit into the launch lane...sorry about that...will just de-rig at the top road if crowded from now on)
      City: folsom

Tips: Started out crankin' outside weed lines and weedbeds in 6-12ft along the tules and rock walls. Worked same areas with wacky rigged dropshot senkos along with 7" yum ribbontail worms Luck ''E'' Strike Perfect Worm Rig. Junebug for both plastics. Big bro used yum wooly bug in crawdad for a couple 2lbers. Then at noonthirty, found snot mats and worked them with black/yellow frogs and money hound in "hotdog" or basically firetiger color rigged on a 7/0 hook. big bro got the blowup on the money hound just twitchin' a trail across the snot and pausing at each hole..blowup came when it left the edge of the snot into the water. you could see the hump of the fish comin' to get it!

Report: After plucking 4.5 lb. and a 2.5 lb. black bass off a piece of classic structure last week, John and I returned this week to the same point. This time we fished a little further out on the point as we were looking for bigger fish. Within just a couple of minutes, John loaded up on a good fish using a T-Rigged black plastic worm on his spinning outfit. Fish put up a great fight and John played him masterfully. Turned out to be a fat 4 lber, but it showed the results of structure fishing (and the fun of using light tackle!).
Back at the marina, Don Lopez told us about a lady, fishing for only her third time and using a drop-shot rig, who nailed a 12.3 lb bass today. The picture of the bass showed it to be a healthy big bass, obviously not short on eating.
      City: Monterey

Tips: Our fish have come off the sides or tops of underwater points using slow presentations at 15-18 foot depths.

Report: For once I wanted to go to a lake based on water quality and campground quality so went to Oroville, I wanted the truck and boat to be as clean when I took it out of the water as it was when I put it in :) Fishing was 3rd place for once but as it turned out it was a good choice, after my Son and 2 Daughters and my self got our fill of swimming and tubing, we tried our luck with the fish, we started off with robo worms on dart heads and my kids could not set the hook with their light rods, I landed 4 to about 16 inches and my son lost 3 at the boat, I then decided to put on mini crawlers for the kids and sure enough they caught one bluegill and bass after the other catching and releasing, I could not keep up but my kids had a wonderfull time, I could not fish I was to busy taking fish off hooks and tossing them back in !! My son has cought lots of bass and bluegill but never a catfish, I have tried and tried to catch them at Clear Lake but no luck with 3 dif kinds of cut bait and night crawlers but my son just before we left got a bite on his mini crawler, I kid you not the pc of worm on his tiny tiny hook was no bigger than 1/4 inch and sure enough he hooks onto a 3-4 lb channel cat way back up in the feather river arm, he fought that fish for what seamed like 10 minutes, I got it on video !!! He was the happiest kid this side of heaven.
      City: San Jose

Tips: Take your kids fishing !! Its an awesome way to bond with them and don't forget to swim also :)
Oh, and use morning dawn robo's if you want to use artificials and crawlers if you have little one's that you want to make sure they catch some fish.

Report: Fished for a few hours Sat. Thought there would be a good crank bait bite with the partly cloudy sky. Not true. Got one on shallow crank and and 4 on drop shot. Mud lines and points in 5-8ft worked for me. Not a very active bite. Thought I would do a lot better.
      City: Foster City

Tips: Throw shallow in mud lines along rocky shore and on points.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Started out fishing top water near Ranch House, caught one 2lb spot no other top water bites after an hour, moved to the vinyards and started fishing shallow crank baits and landed two more smaller fish, moved to Pope Creek Bridge and caught another 2 lb at the bridge piling along with a couple of dinks. Finally started fishing points on the main lake and landed a nice 4 lb large mouth on a drop shot rig with Roboworm in 12 feet of water.
      City: Elk Grove

Tips: Other than the top water all fish came from 8 to 14 feet of water. Saw lots of fish on graph and every time I saw more than four or five fish togeherI was able to get one of them to react. Watch the graph this time of year and when you see a group stop and fish slow.

Report: Thursday 8-11-11, my buddy, his son, and I fished Disappointment and White sloughs. Most of our success was with various colored (use your favorite) 5-inch Senkos rigged wacky style on a drop-shot setup. On the delta, I use a beefier drop-shot setup than normal with heaver line and sinker on bait casting rod and reel. The heaver sinker allows me to control lure location in the wind and current on the delta. If the situation allows, I like going weightless with the wacky rigged Senko. My buddy’s son successfully threw a top-water popper most of the day. We also tried drop-shotting various colored RoboWorms with limited success. Most of our fish were caught on points like the entrance to cuts or on the ends of islands. We ended the day with about 30 fish (10 each). Of these fish only about 10 were keepers with the largest being 4 lbs. The main thing is that we had a lot of fun.
      City: Pinole

Tips: If you like a top-water bite, try a popper, stay with it and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Report: Perfect day on the river taday! Gorgouse day, and smokin bite! A good summer pattern was in perfect place. Deep water grass produced lots of quality fish, and was unable to connect on some real solid bits that I know had to have been some nice pigs!
      City: turlock

Tips: Was throwing big plastics in deep grass. That was defenitly the patern today.

Report: Was on the Lake on 8-9-11 thru 8-11-11 launched at Trinity Center and camped on the lake in Hay Gultch.Fished the entire north end and what I found the fish are deep and want the bait slow. I found better fish below Hay Gultch on the main body deep drop offs.
Methods used: drop shot arrons magic, warmouth
wacky senko's in baby bass color, spider jigs 3/8 oz in Texas craw color. The best thing about my trip was watching a cub bear cross the lake from the west side to the east side. PRICELESS!

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I spent a few days on the water this week and had some good fishing. The fish are doing a few different things like busting shad, bitting on structure and running with stripers. The structure bite in 30' is the most constant, but the fish are small a 4 pounder is a good one. The fish busting shad are better, but finicky they are very keyed into the real stuff.
      City: Oceanside

Tips: Fish your topwater baits very slow around the busting fish, they like it right now. The afternoon bite is way better than the morning bite so make sure to stay late the wind is really helping the bite. Fish very slow on your structure spots. Best of luck! If you want to learn even more come out with Bucketmouth Adventures it's an on the water bass class.

Report: Caught several in the morning on flukes and cranks; Chart/shad. Bite turned off about nine AM so we moved closer to stucture. Ended up finding a pretty steady bite dropping texas rigged 6" worm with chart tail down each tree we could find. Get it to the bottom let it sit for a minute while shaking it and then work it up the tree slowly until you get bit. Shake it, shake it, shake it
      City: Hilmar

Tips: Could not get bit on drop shot, but did well on Tex Rig worm, 3/8 ox tungsten/3.0 Gamagatsu/glass rattle in purple/black or dark color worm and make some noise.

Report: Monday 8-8-11, my buddy, his son and I started fishing the main body. But after trying several areas that we knew to hold fish and a couple hours of time, we caught nothing and decided to move to Cherry Creek. We immediately started catching fish on 3- and 4-inch Baby Bass colored Senkos rigged weightless wacky style. My buddy’s son decided to try something different and started to throw a top-water popper. He had immediate success with a 3½ lb large mouth. He stayed with the popper the remainder of the day and to my surprise, caught multiple fish from 3½ lb all the way down to fish not much bigger that the lure. We also tried drop-shotting various colored RoboWorms with very limited success. My buddy, however, did have success drop-shotting a 5-inch Pro Style Senko in Baby Bass color. Most of our fish were caught near trees, on the outer edge of weeds, and over submerged weeds. In total, we caught about 40 fish. Of all of these, there were only about 15 keepers. The main thing is that we had a lot of fun. Hopefully, one boat across from us also had fun. After seeing us with a double header, they yelled to us and wanted to know what we were using. We yelled back and told them. Hopefully they heard us.
      City: Pinole

Tips: If you like a top water bite, try a popper, stay with it and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Report: Summer time fishing continues. Tope water baits this week still caught the best, 3.5lb spotted bass. This only last till about 8 am in the main body. The rest were caught on drop shot rigs using Basstrix minnows and Aarons Magic color robo worms fishing points in the main body. Fish seem to be from 25 to 30 feet pushing bait around points.
      City: Sacramento

Tips: Electronics are your best friend this time of year, so use them. Bait fish are on the move so move with them to stay on the fish.

Fished under the bridge and caught a 2 lb at the piling and then watched two jump off the bridge right where I was fising. Slow day and only had the three bites.
