    • Report: From DVL Marina
The water here at Diamond Valley is almost glass flat. Here are some tips for fishing when the water is so calm.
Keep your distance - try to stay as far back as possible when targeting bass in calm water
Go natural - present natural looking baits
Speed up - when it’s calm, there’s nothing to obscure the bass’ view, so you'll want to manufacture an obstructed view by fishing fast
Quiet down - without any wind creating background noise, it’s important to fish as quiet as possible because bass' hearing is heightened too when the water is calm
Come on down to Diamond Valley Lake ! We're open until 5:30pm

This won't be much of a report. We caught one fish, and did a bunch of swimming, yet I saw a pattern on the electronics that may help. This was our first trip to Berryessa, so I was pretty clueless, and our results showed. I kind of just migrated to the back of coves all day, and that's where I saw over half the coves had some larger fish (assuming bass) pushing bait into the backs of the coves. It was the classic pattern of seen on reservoirs in the southeast come fall. Shad getting pushed into the backs of coves with a wall of bass on the outside. For the life of me, I could not get them to eat the numerous plastics and metal I put in front of their faces. They were definitely there though. Water temps were 70-72. What a beautiful lake. I definitely look forward to learning it....but for now I'm heading back to the Delta tomorrow. :D

    • Water Temp: 70 degrees, elevation 717.62

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched at Lime Saddle about 6:40 am today, almost shocked at how far down the water went, off the lake at 10:15 am. Looks like 7 or so days left for this ramp. Kind of breezy today, but it sure didn't hurt the bite any. Bagged 34 spots this morning, all from the same 40-50 feet of shoreline where the breeze was minimal to near nothing, only calm location at Lime Saddle. Fish seemed to move in groups, a little this way, then the other way. Seemed like every other cast got a bite. Fish were ok size, most 13" plus, with about 10 fish in the 11-12" runt size, best two 15" and 14 1/2", along with a catfish and a 13 1/2" large mouth. Good example of giving a location a chance after catching a fish, like today, rather then move on down the bank. Fish were deeper, just like the bait balls, all 30-40 foot, best fish on the deeper side. Good day fishing for a change. Pictures in fishing forum.

    • Water Temp: 70-74

Report: Fished on Saturday and Monday. Lake still on pace to get less water everyday. On pontoon on sat we caught 3 largies, 3 little fat bellys and bunch of spots, no big ones. The had tournament heard there was a 5lb spot and 7lb lg mouth so went back Monday. Missed a big bite off of pt in middle fork. Serge caught nice 18"spot. He runs crank baits all day caught more fish more bites also. Windy colder water in main body 70, 72-74 in middle where lg mouth caught more active fish in the warmer water. Didn't make it to south fork.

    • Water Temp: 75-79

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: We have been having 30, 40 and 50-fish half day guided fishing trips. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous and the fish have really been responding well to it. We have finally reached the end of summer and are experiencing fall-like conditions. The water levels are falling very slowly this year and conditions have been fairly stable. The water temperature has begun to cool and is in the mid to high 70’s.
The fish are feeding heavily in anticipation for the colder months to come. With the shad schooling and the bass chasing them in many areas of the lake. There is an abundance of forage, including shad, sunfish, bluegill, and baby bass. When you find an area that has smaller fish you can be sure there are larger fish nearby.
Each trip we are finding new patterns that will sometimes only last for a short period of time. It is very important to keep an open mind and be willing to make on the water adjustments. One day they will be crushing reaction type lures and the next day a finesse rig is the only way to get a bite.
A topwater lure is always on deck. Early mornings and late evening are the best times to get some good blow-ups. Prop baits and walk-the-dog baits have been producing. As far as subsurface reaction baits are concerned; spinnerbaits, small swimbaits and crankbaits are working best. It just depends on the day and the conditions. Each day finesse rigs will get plenty of bites. A small shad patterned worm rigged on a darthead or shakeyhead and fished on rocky banks will put fish in the boat. Also, try using a dropshot rig once you have located some baitfish and feeding bass.
We primarily target bass, but on each trip, we are getting some giant bluegill and crappie on our bass presentations. This past week we landed multiple crappie that weighed up to 2-pounds. The lake is very healthy and the future is looking bright. October is going to be a good month to catch some beautiful New Melones bass.
We also fished the Delta a couple times this month and had a blast! Caught some giants with my good friend Nate Monroe and the topwater bite was cracking all day!

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched at Lime Saddle about 6:40 am, stopped fishing about 10:15 am, when the breeze picked up. Wow, the lake sure is dropping fast, shocks me every time I launch and see maybe one 7-10 days before Lime saddle closes due to low water. Water cooled a bunch, now 74-75 degrees, another week and might hit 70 degrees. Bite seems to have changed too. Not one single fish caught about the 25 foot mark, all caught 30-35 foot range today, no matter where I fished. Could not find any shallow fish today! Caught 18 fish, mostly 12-13 1/2" fish, and one tiny tiny runt and best right at 15" Water looking better too, clearing up more and more each trip. Interesting, seeing marina dudes pulling out 50 foot house boats before the water closes the ramp. Should have gotten a picture, just never thought about it till too late. Looks like I'll be fishing middle fork soon!! Pictures in fishing forum.

    • Water Temp: 80-83

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: After a vacation break, Mike and I hit Berryessa Fri afternoon for a few hours and added 2 hours at night. He had a good trip there last week, including one over 8 lbs. The bite was much slower Friday, at least in the afternoon. We would catch one here and there, but missed several good bites for some reason. We caught several largemouth between 2 and 2 1/2 lbs and Mike got a nice 3 1/4 smallie. We made the mistake of trying a lot of topwater before dark, without a hit. Water was just too warm - or something. That's topwater at Berryessa - "off" and "on!" Been that way forever!! I caught one keeper spotted bass after dark on the favorite 7" Power worm. Sometimes the night bite at Berryessa starts later, but we didn't wait around to find out.

Tips: Bass were really scattered around - only found one point with several bass on it. The bite most of the time was a half-hearted effort - bass would exhale more than inhale!! Some active bass were very shallow in the late afternoon and did seem to prefer a jig to a worm. Best 5 made a nice limit, but not great. Cooling weather is ahead and that should help the bite a lot. I would assume the early morning bite is best right now.

Report: Started the morning fishing points, outgoing tide, witnessed plenty of shad jumping just about everywhere, threw crank baits and produced a couple of keeper sized fish but amazingly when the fish saw the boat they for some reason came off the hook like they really didn't commit to taking it.
Had fish come off of creature baits also, almost was like a spawning season bite, most fish caught were 12 1/2 ", weighed 1 that was thirteen "
Also received a lot of bites but when setting the hook there was Nada. caught a small punch fish also.

      Good luck

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got launched about 6:35 am today at lime saddle and stopped fishing at 10:15 am, surprised, only one other boat launched today, even though it cooled a bunch from last week. Water beginning to cool a tad, now 78 degrees every place I went and the algae is started to die and water clear up some. Fished all my usual location and found it slightly slow today. Caught 18 spots this am, most 13" to 13 1/2" and just one decent fish right at 15 1/2" Fished mostly 25-35 feet, but did catch a few at the 50 foot range. Soon as the water cools more the bite for better fish should improve. Guessing Lime Saddle has 2 1/2 more weeks before the water gets to low for the ramp. Picture in fishing forum.

    • Water Temp: 80-84

Report: We are approaching the end of summer and anxiously awaiting cooler air and water temperature. The lake level is dropping approximately two feet each week. With water temperatures being very warm and falling levels, the fish have pulled off the shoreline and are seeking refuge in deep/cool water.
During the spring, the water came up at a very rapid pace, flooding grass and bushes along the shore. This turned out to be the perfect conditions for a great spawn for all species. There is an absolute abundance of small baitfish, shad, bluegill, sunfish, crappie and baby bass. Once hatched, the small fish had plenty of cover to tuck away and hide from predators and provide fresh oxygenated water allow plankton to thrive. Now as these smaller fish are growing they are being pushed out of sheltered areas by falling water conditions and dying vegetation. The bass and larger predator fish are gorging themselves.
The bass on New Melones are extremely healthy and full. On numerous occasions as we are landing a fish they will be spitting bait across the surface and onto the boat. Whenever this happens we will closely examine what size and color they are naturally feeding on and adjust our presentations accordingly. Many of the baitfish are very small and downsizing to a 2” worm has been a good option.
To locate schools of actively feeding fish try using a reaction type lure. Small crankbaits and swimbaits can be used with a cast and retrieve method to cover water. Once you have located an area that is holding fish, try switching to a small soft plastic fished on a dropshot to continue to catch them.

Report: Launched at Lime Saddle about 6:50 am, stopped fishing at 9:30 am, getting warm, but muggy as all get out, not my kind of fishing weather, yet I still do it! Kind of slowing bite this am, warm water 78-79, and ramp is about to turn the corner. If the lake continues to drop like the last month, maybe the ramp will last 30 more days, then it's middle fork for me!! Miss fishing the area. Only caught 16 fish today, most 13-13 1/2", a couple 12". Best fish today, right at 15", second best just 14". Water is so murky with algae, like a green mud look. Pictures in fishing forum.

    • Water Temp: 87.5

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: The past Labor Day weekend was lovely but the weather was HOT, HOT, HOT!!! In the last few weeks i took out Jonathan, Jason and Felicia fishing was slow because of the heat. The water temperature was over 87.5 degrees and the air was hazy from smoke. Even thought the fishing was slow they enjoyed swimming and exploring the lake. Quoting Don and his son Reid "we had a blast". Jay and his son Matthew had a great time. The best time I had this weekend was when I went out with my son Henry and he hooked up with what he knew was a good size bass as he brought it closer to the boat he asked me to net it for him. I got the net but did not succeed getting the fish into the net and before I could try again he jumped into the air by the boat and the line snapped. Needless to say my son was not too happy with my netting skills. We would have released the bass after taking a picture but never got the chance. We estimate the bass weighed over ten pounds my son says it's the biggest bass he has caught and he has landed some big ones in the past. 'til next week.............................good fishing!!!!!!!

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Launched at Lime Saddle about 6:45 am, stopped fishing right at 9:15 am before the heat came on. Wow, water has started to cool, down to 78-79 degrees, which is going to bring the bite back and better fish. Seems it helped the bite today. Found a location that gave up 6 fish for 6 casts. Never ever move on after catching a spot, remember they tend to school at times. Finally got a decent fish, one 16" and one 14 1/2" with the rest 13" to 13 1/2" and only 2 dinks for a total of 25 fish this morning. Most fish taken at about 25-35 feet, one at 40 foot mark. Also got another large mouth, small, 12" size. Three trips in a row catching large mouths. Guessing about 30 days before Lime saddle runs out of water, ramp right at where the corner begins. Pictures in fishing forum.
