Berryessa Lake

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I guided an expert angler yesterday all over the lower end of Berryessa, showing him areas that were new to him. We experienced all sorts of weather - mostly cold and a little wet. Early afternoon we even had the big north wind hit - rare during a storm, followed by more south wind. Thank goodness the big thunderstorms didn't hit until I was towing home. The bite was slow as the water temp was the same as a month ago. He did catch two nice bass, largemouth and smallmouth, in the 2 3/4 lb range. Missed a few good ones as the bite was timid. It was fun to run into a bunch of near keepers at the last place we stopped. They probably moved up as the sun finally came out. Robo worms worked as always.
Tips: Can't say much as client will be involved in tourney activity this weekend. Bass do seem ready to come shallow in spite of the weather. Our bigger bass were not too deep. Water is clear - so far. May be different this weekend in the coves. But, remember, these are not warm storms. Check your temp guage!

The warmer rains will have the fish biting on jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, a-rigs and plastics. From the bank the Beals Point and Granite Bay Area will be good with some fish near the rocks. -

Early this week when it rained I found fish up in the shallows on top water explosions!!! As the rain was warm... Unlike today it was a cold front rain which no top water and pushes the fish towards inactive as much n found less fish but a few on plastics on the bottom... I dont own a boat just another shore fisherman with little knowledge....

Report: Went out to enjoy the nice sunny somewhat warm day before the rain An cold come back this week. Pulled up to the ramp to see there was a tournament going on (always check your lakes schedules). Luckily it was the final 15 who had fished melones the previous 2 days, still seemed to be a boat on every point. Anyways me and my dad were on, best 5 probably pushin 16-17 pounds, mixture of smallmouth and a 3 an 4+ largemouth. Didn't sound like all the tourney guys were doin so hot, our strategy seemed to be slowing down tossing the darker baits in the murkier areas An back to lighter colors in the cleaner areas. Caught them on points An steeper walls, most hit on the way down. Also most fish where holding closer to bank, I assume there beginning to look for a nice place to spawn.
Tips: Keep casting, changing colors tell you get some attention. The fish are there.

Striper Trolling and plug casting has improved dramatically.. Water temps raised a bit this week and a few more stripers in the Cache Slough area responded. Sturgeon remains the focus here. Diamondback anglers are heading to 41, Liberty and Cache Slough areas with roe and eel reporting success.
Rio Vista Fishing Report
Many more Small stripes and occasionally, a 12-15 pounder caught. Savage Prey and P-line Angry Eye lures are key for the trolling anglers. Red White Classic Shimmer jigs around pumps getting stripers. Sturgeon anglers in front of Collinsville or Red Barn still get bit. Shore bound anglers are scoring both species. The best place to score a striped bass or sturgeon remains Sherman Island in the area of the Power Lines, use threadfin shad or Red’s Bloody Eel.
Walnut Grove Fishing Report
Trolling for stripers cracking the 12 pound plus keeps anglers smiling as the spring push starts up. Best bet, Savage Prey and P-line Angry Eye lures. Bank anglers tossing shad and eel prevail for an occasional sturgeon or Striper those looking for bigger bites.
Discovery Bay Fishing Report
As water temps reach upper-fifties the black bass bite is rolling. Most Blackie anglers are sticking with Senkos and slow rolling blades searching ledges near sparse tulle flats. Others looking to beat the clear conditions are starting to crank Red-Eye Shad and 6th Sense Crush 100x. Keeper sized stripes are grabbing Bubba Shada bit more this week and trolled Angry Eye baits.
Frank’s Tract Fishing Report
Black bass bite is picking up at a consistent pace warm rain only helps the Big Girls bite. Chatterbaits are great options while spinnerbaits get the mentioned as well. Hematoma Beavers on over cast days also working well. We found a few Stripers and Black Bass with Glides and Red Eye Shad.
West Delta Fishing Report
The stripers starting to show anchovies and sardines in many areas for bank anglers, Antioch Pier and along Sherman Island rd. Stripes to 18 pounds have grabbed Swim Baits . Trollers it’s getting started Angry Eyes Chartreuse patterns are the best bet.
Contra Loma Fishing Report
Trout fishing is still good at the east side, north side of lake or from a boat with nightcrawlers, Power Eggs, or mice tails. Water up fast slowed the bite for now. Black bass have been biting on artificial baits/lures and nightcrawlers around the lake.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: The lake had a 2 foot chop on it. This made for a tough time to stay on your spot. The fish still eating when I could stay in contact with the bottom. I was running moving small moving baits. Ended the day with 10 bass. We moved in side a marina and caught about 20 to 30 crappie each.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Got launched about 6:45 am at Lime Saddle, off the water at 10 am. Nice not to have freezing temps for a change, nor blowing winds. Typical winter bite, near nothing going on no matter what I tried. Picked up 2 spots, both at about 35 feet, and that's it for this trip, small a fraction under 13". Tough bite as it always is every March. Water temps dropped a tad, high 48.8, low 48.5 in my travels. Rains only gave a couple foot gain on water level. Don't plan on catching many fish if you go out!! Picture in fishing forum.

New Melones Lake

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Launched out of glory hole on 3/4/18, and made a run to the south end of the lake hitting the coves below table mountain. Coves were unproductive, as was somewhat expected considering the post frontal conditions. Fish were found holding on rocky points in the 15-25 foot range. drop shotting morning dawn robo worms led to fish all around the 1.5-2.5lb range. Also tried some deep cranking to no success. Made another run up the river and found many more fish stacked up on points. The quality of fish were also better upriver, and fish to around 3 pounds were caught. Began throwing a 4.2 inch keitech with a 3/8 oz underspin and started producing. Ended the day with around 20 fish to the boat, and a number of short strikes. All but two were spots. Couldn't get the big bite, but most fish were pretty good quality in the 2.5 pound range. Best 5 probably between 12-13lb.
Tips: The fish were definitely staging on main lake points with rocks. A lot deeper than I was expecting, as they were much shallower a couple weeks prior when I had fished the lake last, but I credit this to the major cold front that has pushed through the area the past week. Any point leading to a major cove produced multiple fish. Keitechs, and dropshotting produced the numbers, but couldn't find the bigger bite. With the weather changing back to being warm for a while the spawn should begin in full affect. It is good to note that both largemouths were males and both were caught in shallow water so theyre moving up! Any day now the lake will break loose

Discovery Bay Fishing Report
As water temps reached mid-fifties a couple weeks ago the black bass bite is tougher again with cooler temps and “Dirty D” conditions. Most Blackie anglers are sticking with jigs and slow rolling blades searching ledges near sparse tuie flats. Others looking to beat the clear conditions are starting to crank Red-Eye Shad and KVD 2.5’s. Keeper sized stripes are grabbing Bad Bubba Shad a bit more this week and trolled Vibrating baits.

Black bass bite has toughened a bit with cooler muddy conditions. Black Blue Fizzles, Swim Jigs and FatSack jigs are great options while spinnerbaits get the mentioned as well. Hematoma Beavers on over cast days also working well. We found a few Stripers and Black Bass with Savage Glide Baits and Red Eye Shad.

There were many shaker sturgeon reports and double hook ups. Bouy 18 at Collinsville West to Honker Bay has been best.

This is just some late weather info - Wed, 7 pm. Big storm coming as most of you know. This is a cold one and there is 6 to 18 inches of snow forecast for the 2000 ft elevation. Will this happen? Who knows. Not sure I would take the chance. Ramps at Bullards are steep as are the approaching roads. Just thought I would let you know. Everything these past 2 weeks has come almost directly from Alaska. Skiers are rejoicing - maybe 4 to 6 feet of snow at higher elevations - finally!

Report: First time fishing Spring lake. Took my son as weather too nasty for him on lake Sonoma today. Joke on me as I wish I could include the picture of the bass I caught. One of my personal best between 6-7 pounds? as I didn’t bring my scale. White chatterbait with black/blue rage bug trailer. Caught near boat dock from shore. Wind 5-10 mph. Overcast and drizzle. Not a world record but nice to know this lake still holds some serious bass.

Report: Got out on Saturday before the cold front blows through. It is a little early yet, the bite is still tough in most area's. I found warmer water in protected spots which are easy to find. The tide was coming back in and the bite hit a high for a few hours for me. Caught some decent bass on reaction baits. It did not last long, hopefully it will rain some more before spring hits hard. "keep a tight line"

Report: It's been awhile since my last report but I went out this past Saturday with Steve. The morning surface water temperature was 49.6 degrees and warmed up to 57.4 degrees by the afternoon. It was a hard fishing day but we hung in there. We tried drop shot ting to swim jigs and it was hit or miss all day. We had some luck in the Narrows and on the east side pass the ranch house before the Vineyards (see photo). No sign of birds or any bait. In my estimation it will be about five or six weeks before the first spawn. A few weeks ago my daughter-in-law Sarah caught an 8 lb 2 oz largemouth bass (see photo) her personal largest. Good job Sarah!!!!! The lake is 9 feet under the Glory Hole so it is full. 'Til next time..............................................good fishing!!!!!

Report: Started the morning around 7am throwing 3/8oz underspins with 3.8" kietech trailer and Jackall TN70, off the bat we were catch fish just not the right size, made a round around the lake to look for the bigger ones, found a good area loaded with fish couldn't get anything big out from it, noon came and we started fishing docks targeting the shaded sides, couldn't get anything to go, I started backing away from The dock and fishing the deeper end and immediately started hammering fish, they were in the bottom in about 7-10ft of water, again nothing big. we then decide to try out for some crappies and found a point where the we're stacked up, we caught and lost count bite was just insane, after a few hrs crappie fish we decided it was time to pick up the swimbaits and swing for the fence, headed back to our first spot and right away my partner got bit, he and I was using one of my prototype 6" Bluegill glide bait, he swung and missed, a few cast later I got bit and same thing happened, we figured it must be the small ones hitting, we then came to a sandy bank and I position the boat in 7ft of water and made a long parallel cast, let my Gill bait sink down to the bottom and started my retrieve with a rod swipe, I like to do that when the bait hits the bottom, it causes the bait to have a irractic side to side action and let's the bait come up off the bottom to not get hung up, also if there is any fish near by or looking at it it can also trigger a reaction strike, soon as my bait came off the bottom I did a medium reel and pause retrieve, on my third reel turn I felt a tug then my rod loaded up and I set the hook, fish on! I Fought her to the boat and my partner grabs the net and we got her into the boat, it was a nice healthy 6lbs 10oz fish, we took some pictures and released her, made a few more cast then it got dark and we called it a night.
Tips: I'm no expert at clear lake but if u want to catch fish throw underspins and reaction baits, fish shallow in the morning and move out deeper in the day, don't forget to throw the big baits for a chance to catch the big ones good luck!

Report: Got launched about 6:50 am, off the water right at 10 am. Nice to fish without winds or cold air. Bit a tad slow today, could hardly find the fish. Cold water still 49.5 to 49.8 degree range in my travels. Tried shallow, deep to 45 feet, yet only got 4 fish today and all small young 12-13" babies. Typical winter fishing day. Better rain soon, as the lake is barely coming up now, maybe a 1/4 foot a day at best, some days less. Picture in fishing forum.

Report: I guided a client yesterday who had fished the main body of Berryessa several times. It worked out well that he wanted to learn the narrows since we couldn't get out on the main body with 25-30 mph winds. I always wish the weather could be perfect for my clients, but rarely is. We were able to cover most of the narrows and visited lots of off-shore structure areas. There really are some interesting areas in the narrows. We did fish effectively before the winds got tough and caught 3 nice bass and a 3 lb largemouth in the afternoon. He caught a beautiful smallie about 2 3/4 lbs. Our best 4 was about 9 1/2 lbs - all 3 species, along with several smaller bass. Average depth was about 25-55 feet. The biggest largemouth was near the back of a cove in about 8 feet of water. She must have been lost!!
Tips: Did not see much bait, but did find a massive school on a narrows point. Bait ball was 60-75 feet! I did spoon two largemouth which were small, and the school was gone. Looked everywhere!! With the upcoming cold front next week, not sure if the bite will improve much. With the sun out all day, the water temp rose - are you ready for this - .8 degrees. Yes, less than one degree. We checked the backs of many coves and didn't see any bass The 2 biggest bass were caught on Senkos. Drop-shotting Robo worms worked ok, but no jig bite. Of course, wish we had been out today - no wind and warmer!! So, what else is new??

Frank’s Tract It’s no secret what a little warmer water can do. Skinny Dippers and A-rigs are great options while Bobby D’s spinnerbaits and swim jigs get the mention as well. We found a few Stripers and Black Bass with Jigs, vibrating jigs and Red Eye Shad.
West Delta Sturgeon leads the way. Eel is the best bait over all, but roe and shad also scoring diamondbacks Broad slough and surrounding cuts. There were many shaker sturgeon reports and double hook ups. Bouy 18 at Collinsville West to Honker Bay has been best. There were few shaker sturgeon and keepers in the Antioch area around The Bridge, Broad Slough and New York Slough. A few more nice stripers coming soaking Shad, anchovies and sardines in many areas, bank anglers, Antioch Pier and along Sherman Island rd.
Contra Loma - Black bass have been biting on artificial baits/lures and nightcrawlers around the lake. Try a Boom Boom Swimbait to effectively conquer the grassa Trout fishing is still good at the east side, north side of lake or from a boat with nightcrawlers, Power Eggs, or mice tails. Try fishing at Channel Point, Loma Island or from a boat with nightcrawlers or chicken liver.. Try fishing for Crappie or Bluegill with jigs or worms at the boat ramp area, Loma Island or Channel Point area.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: On the water at 7am to 5 pm. The fish where co-operating from the start of the day. Small jigs started the day and work all the way through. Every thing was working, A-Rig, underspin, worm, Drop shot and even the crankbaits. I caught 25 and my buddy caught 35. The fish where every where no one place. Right know just go fish how you like to fish. But Caught more fish on a slow jigs but watched some one catch a 8 on a crankbait.
Tips: If your looking for the bigger girls stay off the docks in deeper water. 20 to 30 feet in front of the docks. There is always that area where the bottom breaks slightly quicker. 1 or 2 feet faster.
