Calero Reservoir
-
Water Temp: 51
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: The lake is almost full and I think the city won't be filling it anymore unless we have another heavy rain. The water clarity is getting better towards cherry cove and the north end of the lake. I went out twice this past week and didn't get bit both days. Tried evrything. Tried shallow, tried deep, well deep was about 25 ft. Bait balls all around the main lake in 30ft+.
City: San JoseTips: Winter fishing is tough, couldn't buy a bite. i have to keep telling myself, "at least i'm out here". The weather has been pretty crappy so I would guess that has a lot to do with it, but i could be completely wrong. A few more weeks(or days) and it should pick up. Hopefully. MAybe I should have went to Del Valle, or Anderson, or Coyote(but it's chocolate milk over there). Maybe I should just put the rods away until the weather changes a bit.

Water Temp: 48
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Tough fishing on Mon. Was faced wiht pretty bad conditions....cold north wind, overcast. Was hard to maintain boat control, but still managed 2 fish that ranged from 1-2 pounds. Caught on 1/2 oz. brown jig wiht matching craw trailor off a point in about 30ft. of water. Initially threw a 3/8 oz. jig but couldnt get it down fast enough due to the wind.
City: SalinasTips: The fish hit when it was motionless...hard to try ohter techniques but im sure you could get em' drop shotting and dragging a CA-Rig...Give it shot

Castaic Lake
-
Water Temp: 55
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: We fished in a small 12 boat tournament with water visibility of 1-3 inches. We had 7 fished weighed in. There is a lot of stuff floating in the water. The water ski arm has far less stuff floating in it. We are talking uprooted tree stumps and large branches that if hit will take out your boat.
City: castaicTips: brass an glass beads and dark color worms
bait that make alot of noise

-
Clear Lake
-
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: It is wide open saw at least 100 landed and we caught 30 ourselves with a half hearted effort. Seeing that I had to play deck hand to my 6 and 8 y/o boys who want this worm or that color jig or wanted to take a break or want to have some more hot chocolate and the kicker CAN WE PLAY GAME BOY? Kept my composure most of the time trying to remember that I am build wonderful memories with these little monsters j/k. Use minnows for 3 black bass to 3 lbs. Salt and peper jigs with a tinge of tranluscent blue seemed to work best and biggest crappie although pretty steady action on most colored jigs charchruse, red and white, etc. We fished around shag rock, but also heard of a great bite at Konocti bay. If you see a bunch of boats on top of each other fishing very cordially you have found the spot.
Fire Jon
City: San BrunoTips: bring gps if you are familar with the lake am fog is tough. watch your meter of the crappie and fish slow.

Contra Loma Lake
-
Water Temp: ???
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Well, I figured it was a few days after the full moon and a storm front was rolling in . Got to the lake and launched my tube. My fins are a bright blue in color and they vanished after about 2". Talk about poor visibility!! Threw everything I had, you name it I threw it. Fished the entire lake with not a single bite all day (8-3). Saw a couple of "Power Baiters" and they weren't getting anything either. If anybody has any words of wisdom on this lake it would be greatly appreciated!!
City: AntiochTips: Time on the water.
-
-
Coyote Lake
-
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Fished from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM, not even a bite. Water level is high and very muddy. The level is back up to what it was during the summer! Tried jig/trailer, Osprey swimbait, and Texas-rigged plastics, all failing to get bitten. There is a lot of debris in the lake. This, combined with the recently submerged vegetation, should bring good fishing in the early spring.
City: Belmont, CATips: You tell me!!

Berryessa Lake
-
Water Temp: 52
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Fished berryessa today and me and my partner caught fifteen bass today on night crawers in about four hours. Split shotting in coves in the south part of the lake. We were catching em about fifteen to forty foot of water. Try fishing bait you'll have more fun than using artificials this time of the year. M ake your fishing trip worth wild instead of trying to figure out what to use. Use lures later in the year when the fishing gets easier. Gasoline is expensive these days and driving and towing. Be smart and use real bait. There will be time for artificials later in the year.
City: napaTips: Fish deep on points and coves about 10 to 40 feet.
-
Water Temp: 55
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Fished today from 10 to 3 using the previous tips. Fished 30' to 5' on points and rocky areas. Fished slow, drop shotted with brown and purple worms, and black/blue and brown/orange jigs, but no fish. Anyone else do well? What's the secret? Do you let worms and jigs sit for 30 seconds before shaking or moving?
City: NovatoTips: Would like some tips.

California Delta
-
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: launched out of Russos, fished the tract then over to old river mouth, then into rock slough, then back to the tract....NOTHING ALL DAY! :(
fished blk/blu jigs with robo craw trailers. T-Rigged just about everything, drop shot Robo FX 6in worms and lipless cranks..seemed like it was slow for most. talked to a few anglers nothing with them either. I fished out of Orwood on saturday the 14th and stuck a 3.5lber on a lipless crank in rock slough working the shorelines. for my first and only fish of 2006 (Yet) seems like they are being caught by the other reports. Thats Fishing..
City: walnut CreekTips: Look for rock points and summerged grass beds...but that didnt help me very much this trip. Watch out for Debris! :)

Oroville Lake
-
Water Temp: 50
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: After a sad, slow day on the delta on Sun., I headed to Oroville for what I hoped would be another great fishing trip. Very cold and the reaction bite had slowed, but the jig bite was crazy. Fish were still in the top 20 feet and were really thumping the jig when they ate it. The drop shot bite slowed considerably, but I figured it would with the cold front. It just seemed like the fish wanted the bait worked right to them and then they would jump on it. Flats and slow tapering banks were the best, though we did catch some good fish on the steeper banks in Potter's. Best 5 went 12'14 and big fish was 2'14. Had at least 10 over 15 inches.
City: RosevilleTips: Once again, not one fish under 13 inches. I can't believe how awesome the quality has gotten at Oroville. My buddy has a tourney there next week. Will be interesting to see what kind of weights roll in.

San Justo Lake
-
Water Temp: 57
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Thanks for the report, Marone! Keep'em coming!
Toadhunter, in case you haven't called Todd at Big Red Concensioons yet, he said today that they'll start staying open five days a week (Wed through Sunday) on Wednesday, Feb. 1st.
Fished from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. today, mostly throwing trout swimbaits and the Tiger Tube. Couldn't buy a bite all day. Weather was absolutely perfect, overcast most of the day, and virtually no wind. Spent the day fishing the same bank that produced the 12+ for another boat and my 9+ last Sunday. Made a gazillion casts from the shoreline out to 30 feet with no bites. Tried retrieves throughout the water column from zero to 30 feet. Nada. Tried fast, medium and slow retrieves. Nada. Even tried a 1 oz. spinnerbait, waked, mid-column, and slow-rolled. Nada. Tried Mega-Charley, Castaic slow-sinker, and Matt's Bluegill. Nada. Slow day was made even more frustrating with the news that Doug Clarke nailed a 14+ yesterday on a Senko. The big'uns are in there, they're chowin' down as they get ready to spawn, and they can be caught, if you find'em and have the right lure on.
City: MontereyTips: Keep movin', keep chuckin', and hang in there.

San Luis Lake
-
Water Temp: 52
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: The lake is in great shape and coming up daily. A little off color but very fishable with about 2-3 vis.. We Launched at Dino Pt and fished in that area for the first couple of hours and also spent some time graphing for bait..couple of missed fish and two small ones to the boat...Went looking out on the main lake off some island tops for a another grab that also came up empty..Finally setteled down on main lake points for some 20-24" fish..Bait was hard to find and quality Stripers even harder. We had are chances that didn't convert into fish..it happens sometimes
City: San JoseTips: Hair Jigs, Lucky Craft jerkbaits & Live bait

Trinity Lake
-
Water Temp: 46
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Heard that the launch ramp at Trinity Center had been plowed so went for a while this AM. Headed for some rockpiles off the ballpark and started picking up fish right off. Nothing big at first but as the water warmed slightly action on bigger fish picked up. Ended up with 14 fish with 3 in the 4 lb class including 1 smallie right at 4. The fish didn't seem to be as tightly schooled as they were the last time I went out. Maybe this means that they are getting ready to move up a little. Most fish today were caught at 25' with some smaller ones a little shallower.
City: WeavervilleTips: The Gitzit was working real good for me today. There are probably other baits that will work as good or better than the Gitzit, but when I can catch 14 fish in 4 hrs in the middle of Jan, it's hard for me to experiment much. I had a great day: Smallmouth at 4 lbs. and the Patriots kicked Butt. Who could ask for anything more.
