Pine Flat Lake
-
Water Temp: 60-64 Degrees
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I fished Pine Flat on Friday and Sunday in the evening from 2pm-6:30pm. Friday was the first time I had been on the lake this year and I had to look around quite a bit before I found anything promising. I should have known I was in for trouble when my first fish was a 3 lb catfish caught on a dart headed smallie beaver. Ended up finding some fish up shallow on a shady steep bank throwing a wacky rig senko. My 4 year old even hooked up by himself on the senko.
Sunday was a much better bite for me. Had both kids and the wife with me so I thought I better hit that stretch of bank I found on Friday. We started cruising down the bank throwing senkos with no luck and a little too much breeze for them to fish the senko effectively. I looked down at the graph and told my wife to grab the drop shot rod I had rigged for the boys. She was hooked up before it even hit the bottom. It was on from there. We never moved more than 50 yards in about 4 hours. It was a perfect bite for having the whole family in the boat. No casting, just dropping. Caught approx. 30 bass with a good mixture of spots and largemouth. Nothing big, but did catch some nice keeper sized fish.
City: ClovisTips: In the area I found it seemed the fish were moving up and down on steeper banks. Saw signs of bait in the 20 ft range in this area. We used shad colored plastics, however one fish puked up a crawdad. Water temp shows the fish should be actively feeding and some should be bedding by now. Did talk to some that did see bed fish and said they caught a 3lber off a bed. I'm itchin to go by myself so I can look around shallower. Should be able to run into some larger fish with these water temps.

Report: Bass here are starting to come up shallow also with some bass going to 3 pounds. Wacky worm senko's in watermelon red/black flake are catching most of the bass here. There a good number of 12 to 15 inch bass being caught here. traffic is light even on the weekends. This lake could be a sleeper for a big bass on swimbaits here. Jigs are also working in 1/4 oz arkie head brown/purple with a 221 yamamoto cinnimon purple flake 4" twin tail grub trailer.
City: kerman caTips: This is another lake that is getting over looked for big bass.

El Capitan Lake
-
Water Temp: 58 to 60
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Went for the 1st time in 10 years to fish .Last time there, 3 years ago, I bought a boat from Ron stoll
The fish were up on the bank and down to 8ft.
It was overcast in the morning and my dad caught fish on nightcrawlers one after another. He ran out of 25 worms in 2 hours.
I caught fish on 4 1/2 in. robo peoples worm on a spot remover. I flipped it into the big brushy bushes and the big ones ripped them apart.
went to the larger worm and they didn't want it. went back to small worm and got fish.
tried crappie for 1/2 hour canned that idea and fished 1/4 oz brown /purple jig with yamamoto, cin/purple flake 4" twin tail. 3 more fish. Closed out drop shotting 4 1/2" prism craw the rest of the day. Finished with close to 20 fish. 15 inch and better were in the bushes. lots of 2lb. bucks in the open shore line water.
Going back next week to flip again.
City: los angelesTips: Quiet water was better early in the day.
Brown worms. Try the bases of brushy bushes.
If you just want to have fun with the family or friends and you want to get bit...... fresh, frisky, nightcrawlers.
6lb. flouro, Gamakatsu weedless octupus hooks.
Toss them close to or into the short scrub brush and hold on.
Im sure that the reaction bite will happen for some. I just feel they're cruising for a meal and defending their new nest territory

Lopez Lake
-
Water Temp: 60
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: After a two year hiatious I came back to my favorite lake. I took along a newbie and there were 6 boats out there when I launched and I was first through the pay gate. Based on assumptions that I made from the last post I went after the fish while I had newbie fish a senko. I fished jigs,blades,cranks.....I flipped I pitched...NOTHING! I was shocked....O well to save the day I took out the drop-shot and put 23 in the boat along with newbie's 9. I did get two largemouth and a smallmouth on cranks in the evening. The crank was a splatterback dd-14 Norman and the worm was a 6 inch fat robo-oxblood light red flake. Worms were pitched into 4 feet and shook like hell in one place. drag and repeat. Most bites were away from the bank but tight to the brush. Just males up thinking about it. Two crank fish happened on one point wham largemouth/ wham smallmouth....the third I made a great cast into some nasty stuff and cranked the back of the cove starting in 2 feet and I only got two cranks on the handle and got just crushed by the best fish of the day. I talked to fish and game about the obvious fish for cash thing going on at lopez...Operators put folks on the bank and set them up with crawdads for bait while they use a walkie talike to communactes with another boat. Stuff like that is shady at best but she ( the warden ) has her hands full trying to actually catch them at anything as they are busy destroying evidence as she is pulling in and would have to scuff up the boat driving it right up on the suspected problem ( over harvest ) before they can cut it loose or throw back the under size fish. I always like to drive my boat over the top of the structure they are fishing so they have a nice day on the water instead of limit fishing for 9 adults and 6 children= 75 fish. evn the cormorants don't wipe the joint out as bad. Have a fun trip, be same around the other boats...Trout fishermen were having a ball in a circle by the dam right on top. Good size too!
City: Santa BarbaraTips: Water clarity is not an issue it's about slowing down and fishing tight. In retrospect I'd be up lake fishing in the very backs of the little cuts and fishing mainlake points uphill from deeper for the females first light. I was shocked at the non-existant reaction bite. I saw some guys catch a few on a crank or worm but it didn't fish like I expected...Give it time and you'll find the fish

San Antonio Lake
-
Water Temp: 46-50
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Should have stayed home! The lake is turning over...it looks like someone dumped thousands of pounds of finely cut grass into the water and clumps of moss are still rising to the top...the whole lake looks like crap. Fished from 6:30-1:30 and not even a bite...threw everything in my arsenal all with no results. Hope like hell it clears up by the 17th for my next tournament.

Nacimiento Lake
-
Water Temp: 54-57
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished here Feb 19-20. Had to work for fish. Caught about 14 spots each day, all between 12-16 inches. Very little success in clear water with dartheads. Found a decent jig bite at the mouth of the river and in Las Tablas where water was stained. Water in stained/dirty areas was 2-3 degs warmer too. I think fish are still a little spooked in such clear water near the ramp. I did find a few coves in the afternoon with 57-59 deg water so it will turn on soon. Saw only a couple whites caught. No reaction bite.
City: VisaliaTips: Brown or brown/purple jigs and dirtier water
