Report: Guess I had better make a report since the last one for Naci was in May...
Partner and I took the drive to check out Naci for the upcoming ABA. Lake is now at 50% and many of the usual structures are hig and dry and fishing is not as ez as before. A cool morning with fog on the water until maybe 7 but who cares as it sure assisted in getting a nice bunch of keepers and if this had been a tourney, we would have been culling by 7:45.. Partner hit the 1st keeper then a second then a third on three casts! Super fun time with some decent 2+ pound spots and a really nice 2-1/2 3 Large as a bonus. Hit some more areas and pulled a decent spot on a jig of an empty boat dock and later a choice 2-3 pound smallie to make a good 8 fish 16 to 17 inchers. Large was long but a small girth as was the smallie. A good fish but still needing a few more tasty shad to fill her out in a place where 'fat' is better!

Not too many bassers out today nor a huge amount of other party goers but the wave action was harse at times and it gave us a bucking bronco ride across the main lake. Location was the key today as the morning showed great promise with the afternoon at full sun not so great but we managed a few fishbut nothing like the morning. Sun was up in full force with the temps in the high 80's low 90's and bikini wheather was the call,. Yehaw!
      City: Santa Maria

Tips: Lots of good spot still holding fish so with the water low, still make a stop at your favorite spot to checkout the conditions. Watch for submerged islands in some coves as the water being down so much, real estate is showing.

Watermelon sinko and or 6" purple death (Pine favorite) also 6" robo worms clear. The kicker was they were biting but with the wind... very hard to get into the best position.
      City: Clovis

Tips: Let your sinko sinko all the way to the bottom.....
be patient. look for sunken trees and watch out for rattlers...one tried to swim in my boat the other day.

Report: Got out on the lake and started fishing by 8:20am. No wind. Fished down by the dam in 30' of water. Fished for Striped Bass. Best bait was Frozen Anchovies. Good Striper action, mostly smaller fish around 15", got some nicer fish around 18" and took a limit of these home for dinner. Got off the lake at Noon as the wind was really starting to come up.

Report: Just got back from weekend camping trip with my co-workers. First time at Lopez and this place is WINDY! Got there Friday at noon and trolled leadcore (2 colors) and did the best with orange/pearl needlefish. We didn't get alot but managed to land two for dinner. Got on the water about 10am Sat. with boat full of people. With only 2 leadcore rigs everyone else had to use weighted monofilament, which ended up being the best setup right now. The trout are all still on the surface and the leadline goes to deep. People fishing monofilament out fished leadcore this weekend. I had them stop the boat once to try to cast a shaded spot but we couldn't hold the boat in the wind. Saw a guy at the boat launch hauling in a catfish at least 35 or 40 pounds Saturday morning when we were going out. Kelly, I did see some suspect shore fishers with large coolers but saw nothing illegal. All in all we had fun, caught 12 trout Saturday and narrowlly missed being sprayed by the camp skunk. It sucks being trapped in a tent when you have to go to the bathroom!
      City: Carp

Tips: Trout are all very shallow. Orange and pearl needlefish. If you camp there, empty your trash nightly or you will have stinky visitors.

      Water Temp: 70

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: It was windy as usual until 6pm. The fishing was good to average. The best spots were shaded areas and any place that had sticks. The fish really seem to rush towards the shallows as the sun in going down.

Tips: I recommend lipless crankbaits for searching for fish. My preference is the LV-500. If the fish are very active cranking can be productive. If it is slower and the fish are suspending , I recommend drop shotting or a Carolina rig. Straight tail Robo's, craws or small jerk baits work well.

Report: Just a reminder for next year. For those that do tournements at Lopez --- Reports have it that Lopez will be issuing only ONE PERMIT PER WEEK for bass clubs. In other words, 1 weekend, 1 club! I know, that sounds dumb but I hear citizens are complaining that we are 'raping' the lake and not allowing them [the citizens] to launch. Well, my feeling is that we pay gate fees and permit fees to fish which is far beyond what they pay and we wait in line just like they do but the difference being, we don't take fish out! IT REALLY DOESN'T SOUND FAIR TO US BASSIN PEOPLE but unfortunately, It may be something that all lakes will be doing sooner than later. Anyway, all you club fishers may want to get in touch with the lake and start making your meets for next season as it going to change and you may be left out in the cold. It will take a permit to hold a meet now and if you don't have one, your not going to be able to fish and if you came from a distance, your going to be pretty upset!

      Water Temp: 62-66

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Gold Coast Bass results: Winners in with 28.21, second in with 25.52 Big bass in at 7.39 -- Days total for 22 boats: 227.96 lbs weighed

Morning started off with a more pleasant 510 and slowly climed to a warm 860 by 3PM weih in. A good turnout for today with everyone chasing both ends of the lake for a good bite. Winners were culling by 7:45AM with most others by 10AM. Bite went away and it was a long hard final 5 hours with many not getting even a small fish. Dam and river both held quality keepers but the temps did some strange things and fish went towards banks rather than deep. Several fish taken had already spawned as that 'flat belly' look was there. Many schools of fry and 2-3 week old bass were chasing around in the rocky parts, trying to capture offered baits but only a few females were around. Basically, if you hit fish then you were pretty much in the area and tossing the right bait and slow goin did the trick.
      City: Santa Maria

Tips: Some crank fish were taken as was a few on blades but most were on plastics fished towards the shallow parts of the banks. Seemed fish were holding better there than anyplace.
