Report: Well the Bass Classics o Santa Clara Valley had the best ishout in years or any month let alone January. We had 28 guys catching 101 bass or 172 lbs and a 1.7 lb ave. There were 13 limits caught and everyone caught ish.The winning team said they caught between 30 - 35 ish each. The top weight was 11.00 or Pat Mcmurray he was using Salt & Pepper grubs on 1/4 & 1/8 dart heads. They ound the ish stacked up on one bank in a 50 yard area that had a secondary hump o the bank and the ish were between the bank and the hump ambushing shad. The ish spit up shad and were very aggressive ater awhile they through worms on a darthead and spider grubs in our or ive colors to keep the ish interested. In Second place was Dave osborne he cranked a ish and caught them on grubs and spiders jigs also mostly on the main lake points. In third was Gordon Rydquist he used Morning dawn worms on a 1/4 oz. darthead to catch most o his ish. In ourth was mysel with 9.75 lbs I had our ish on my shad wiggle wart near the marina in the morning og and then I caught one on a deep water main lake point while my partner had two on drop shotting robo worms in 25-30 eet on the point. Later in the aternoon we ound ish back on the windy main lake points with shad wiggle wart cranks again. In ith was Tom mordue he used hulagrubs in shad color and cranked some ish on main lake points with shad cranks. He also used spider grubs and worms to ill his limit. This was by ar the best January ishout in many years and we can't wait to get back there again.

Tips: Remember the ish are near the ramp or a couple o weeks ater the weigh-ins so try there and use shad cranks(wiggle Warts) also the main lake points hold most o the ish.

Report: I started ishing lake santa margarita 13 years ago. This past year I had an experience that may only happen in a lie time. I was ishing by mysel just north o launch ramp, when I caught a 7lb 1oz bass. I put her in the live well, went back to the marina, where a gentleman was good enough to take a picture o me with the bass. I returned the bass where I caught her. Here is the amazing part o story. Not less than hal hour had passed when I caught an 8lb 2oz bass near the swimming hole cove. A buddy o mine saw me getting my picture taken with the irst bass, and it blew his mind when he saw the second bass in such a short turn around. He took my picture with bass and I released her. I have enjoyed many years o ishing Santa Margarita,I like the lake, not only because it's beautiul but also you don't have to contend with water skiers. Over the years I have many bass in 7lb class and one the 8lb class.
      City: atascadero

Tips: you have be versital to ish this lake. I have used jig & pigs, spinbaits, senko's, to swim baits. You name it, I have tried it! The bueatiul part is they all work, when conditions are right. The other day (1/15/03) I caught six bass using a deep diving crank bait against a wind blown bank. I hope you enjoy the lake as much as I have. good luck.

      Water Temp: 51

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fish are shallower than beore the rains around Christmas. The lake came up a total o 30 eet and the ish came up with the water. Had ive ish or 7.98 and 2nd in the New Years tournament. One on a crankbait in about 5 eet o water. The rest on black jigs with black super pork in 10 eet o water or less. By Saturday the 4th and the 100% Bass tournament, the ish changed to worms. One short o a limit, with 6 ish or 7.53 lbs. got 9th out o 38 teams. Darthead and Texas rig 6 inch Keeper Custom Worms in color 010 the trick. Fish were still shallow, 15 eet or less, just a little more inicky. White 1/4 oz jig with a white Keeper curl tail grub was also hot when ish were located. Hop the jig along the bottom. A slow presentation with the Texas rig best and slight shake and drag o the darthead seemed to be the best presentations with stained water in the very low 50's.
      City: Paso Robles

Tips: When the water rises and gets muddy the ish go shallow also. Usually 10 eet or less. Jigs and worms ished slow best in darker colors.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I went to Pyramid today (12/30) by mysel.Weather: clearWater temp: 52 Air temp: 62Wind: 0 - 2 MPHWater Level: Very HighI was tired rom hunting yesterday so I go up at 8 AM, putted around the house and inally let the house at 10 AM. Got to Pyramid at 10:45 and was starting to ish by 11:00. Putted around looking or ish on the sonar and ended up at Yellowbar where I saw some ish on the meter and where other people were ishing. Baited up two lines, and waited. Ater about 10 minutes I started to see more ish on my meter and started to get bites. I kept throwing out chum, errr, the anchovy heads that were cut o rom my bait that I chopped up... about every 10 or 15 minutes and ater a while I was getting so many bites that I couldn't always keep two lines in the water. Ater about an hour and a hal I stopped counting the ish I caught ater I reached 20. Most were small (12 - 14 inches) and I only kept ive (all over 18 inches - 18", 20", 20", 21", 22"). I decided to leave at 3 PM but wanted to take a look at the dam. I went over there and did a slow sweep. There were 7 boats tied up to the buoy and 4 boats either anchored to the island or driting. I saw 3 ish caught while I was going by (all small ish).I also saw some people beached at Spanish Point catch a ish (looked about 18 - 20 inches). So, the bite is still on at Pyramid rom what I can tell. It also looked like the dam area is starting to pick up again. All o the ish were thin but no where near as bad as last time. Some o the smaller ish were actually starting to get bellies on them. Hope you have a Happy New Years,--Ed
      City: Valenica

Tips: Chop up those anchovy heads and toss them in the water. Also wash your knie and hands in the water ater each baiting and spash a lot, it does attract the stripers (and the oils rom the bait attracts the ish too!). Also, big bait
