Report: I spent 3 days this past weekend with a ly-isherman on my back deck and did I ever learn a lot. A gentleman by the name o Mel Toponce and his lovely wie Sandy joined me in search o Trinity Smallies. Iwas able to put him on some ish and ater the proper ly was determined he tore them up at times. Although the ishing was pretty good, the companionship and growing riendship were even better. Thanks Sandy and Mel or a most enjoyable three days. The bass ishing is in ull swing with trophy size ish being taken with regularity. Jerks and cranks are working well in the 3-10' range while darterhead worms, gitzits, and brush hogs are taking the deeper ish. Now is an excellent time to take your avorite bait and just go ishing.

Report: I made a quick trip since the weather was nice - a storm is supposed to come in tonight. I had about 14 hookups, but only landed 6 - the biggest being a 3 1/2 lb largemouth on a #194 Senko. I was also using a loating worm, but the ish wern't taking it very good. I talked to the ellow that caught the lake record in 1998 and he was catching mostly small ones too. I saw a ew quality spots and a big largemouth crusing, but they wern't biting. One big spot did take my worm just beore I let, about 8 pm, and I lost her at the boat - maybe 4 pounds! I saw ish all over the lake - just not in great numbers. More heat is what we need!!
      City: Yuba City

Tips: I was able to catch three o my ish on beds with a chartreuse tube bait. One was a 2 3/4 lb spot. They were un to catch and even more un to put right back! My Senko largemouth was in back o a cove in about 10 eet o water, next to a bush.

Report: Got to the lake around 7:30 went straight to greasy cove irst ish came at 8:00 on the dot almost caught it on a pearl white luke. Second ish came about 10. It was a male o a bed, with this ish there was a huge sow 7-10lbs easy. Spent an hour trying to get her to bite. she came in and went tail up on a wacky rigged Senko then backed o. i let and Came back later and she was still there but still couldn't get her. only cauight two bass but it was worth it to see that big one and to spend a day on the lake. Other guys ishing near me caught a ew on live minnows. My two came on the white luke and a straight 4 inch red plastic worm.
      City: Visalia

Tips: Guys at Sierra Sporting Goods were very helpul in choosing the lukes. They said white was a hot color and it did work or me. Also slow it down a little and have patience there are some big ish in that lake.

Report: Fished 4/03 & 4/06. Did really well both days. Started @ 6:00AM. They were biting on shad colored cranks & top water. Fishing shallow on the bank out. Would get bit 3-6 cranks to the boat. They are slamming the crankbaits! My partner nailed a 4.0 with a crankbait on his 5th cast on 4/3. Good pair o days. Lots o ish on 4/6 but they were smaller 12.5 - 15" Tried spinnerbaits & got some hits, but they were hitting it on the trailer.
      City: Visalia

Tips: Cast that crankbait as close to shore as you can. Let it sit or the count o 6, then reel it med. speed & hold on. They are in rocky structure & small coves. Also try a spinnerbait with no trailer!

They were biting on a 4 1/2" purple worm with a curly tail. Caught them in 10'-20't water throughout the day. It was overcast or much on the morning and slowly burned o by very late morning. Fish had nice guts on them and seemed really close to spawing.

Report: Tried Fishing or BASS again to no avail. The wind was terrible and there are a ton o squaw ish in this lake, every time you thought you got qa good ish it turned out to be an ugly garbage ish. Looks like they have taken all o the so called bass away with them. Worse yet I think the logging road was hit by enemy ire, I put 1,000 miles on my boat and trailer in 16 miles. We did catch a couple blue gills on night crallers but overall the trip was a bust. I think I'll try clearlake or Sonoma ater I tighten all o the bolts on my trailer and reconnect the trolling motor.
      City: Potter Valley

Tips: I you like squaw ish this is your lake.

Report: Got out or a couple o hours today, got nothing. I lipped a black and red jig the entire time, got one bite, and didn't get a good hookset. On a really sad note I ound a gill net in some tules. As I was pulling and cutting it out I pulled up a bass. It was about 1.5#. I thought it was dead at irst but it moved so I careully cut it ree and let it go.I suspect that people who would use a gill net are not likely to visit this orum so I'll skip preaching about why they are so bad. GILL NETS SUCK!
      City: Santa Cruz

Tips: Try something other than a red and black jig. I you use a gill net I hope Fish and Game get a hold o you.

Report: I have been reading some reports about Bed ishing, and the Vietnamese people. First o I would like to correct some statments made. I am a Vietnam Veteran, and have been involved with the veterans community or years in Redding. I am also a tournament isherman, and have been involved with the ishing community or years. What I would like to correct is the orientals that we see ishing on Shasta are not Vietnamese. We only have a ew Vietnamese amilys living in Redding. The people we see are Mung or Laotian. I havc on many occations checked the buckets and stringers o these people to see i in act they are taking ish home that are not legal, and I have never ound them doing anything illegal. All they are doing is catching ish to eed there amilys.I can tell you also that they are not nearly as wastull as we are. They eat just about every part o the ish they catch. Now or bed ishing I agree that some restrictions need to be taken to protect our uture population o ish. I just wonder how inorcing the law to protect them would be carried out.
      City: Redding

Tips: There are plenty o ish on Shasta, and a ew ish taken home to eat will not hurt anything . What we need is a slot limit.
