Report: I'm not sure of your age or the sum total of your life experience (no disrespect) but as I've gotten a little older I've found that the "best" time is any time, all of the time, every time. As I get older and take care of my responsibilities (work, bills, and such) more than I fish I notice that I look up at the sky every day and wonder how the fish are biting...but I digress; it should warm up a little this week so they should be in a frenzy before the winter.
      City: p-town

Tips: If the water is like choclate milk look for the fish to be shallow, take a couple of spinner baits, flashy rattletraps,(maybe your jig, but make it flashy) and the like. If you use soft plastics slow it down a little. Also, I personally dig the pig-n-jig combo but on this water I have had the most success in the early-spring through the end of the spawn. after that I put it away or wait till I'm somewhere else but here, but that's me. I'm sure there are people out there that swear by them like I do soft plastics.................(hint***spider grub, texas rigged, 1\8-1\4 oz. weight)

Report: In at Jones Valley at 0720 with my brother in law from Indiana, wind out of the North at 5 lake is 100.5 ft down air temp 43. ran over into the middle Pit throwing topwater stuff with no bites at all, no shad activity so out came the jig rod. Phil was throwing a 1/2oz I used my regular 3/4 oz and had a #23 hoo-dun-it on mine and a 29 on Phils. We had 12 fish by 1030 am when the wind came up big time with gusts to 30 mph, best 5 went a bit over 10lbs and only 3 of the 12 were dinks so all in all a good morning. Phil picked up the jig fishing quickly and I only caught 2 more than he did. Guess I wil have to leave him home tomorrow. Out at 1245, air temp 63 with only 4 rigs on the beach at Jones Valley. Best fish today came on the #22, a brown with gold flake.

Report: Caught a bunch(14- all released except for two) of beautiful steelhead yesterday trolling with my uncle. Lost a bunch too. It was a nice change from the bass. These are steroid fish. So much power. Caught some spook and ratletrap bass, but did not do that for long. The steelhead were calling. Har. Mostly cloudy day yesterday. Just perfect. I saw two other boats up there the whole day. Where is everybody?
      City: Petaluma

Tips: We were trolling on top with floating Rapalas(F-9). No downriggers or flashers. Just out of the box. I had black/white. My uncle had rainbow trout. The only difference was I changed over to single siwash hooks(#8) with barrel swivels and new split rings. He(stubborn irishman) stayed with the stock treble hooks. He lost a lot of fish and none of mine got off. Make the changes necessary. You'll catch more fish. Don't be lazy. D.B.COOPER

PS I saw steelhead busting shad and I would wing my Luckycraft rattletrap(american shad) right into the comotion, let it sink a little and then retrieve. Caught three nice steelhead doing this. So much fun.

Report: Headed out to Frank's Tract for an evening of striper fishing. Went with my buddy Jeff in his boat. Started out tossing Rat-L-Traps and Grandpa's Gadget's swimbaits. We got well over a dozen schoolies up to 7.5 lbs. Best baits were Road Runners and the swimbaits.
      City: Discovery Bay

Tips: The bite turned on best when the tide started moving. We fished basic stuff like weed edges, current breaks, drop offs, and the openings.

      Water Temp: 60

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I had a chance to sneak out this afternoon and got on the water at about 1:00. Since I was only going to be out for a few hours, I launched near Franks and hit the several known spots. At about 3:00 the wind lay down and the bite picked up.

The north side of franks was muddy, but I still managed several bites. The most productive spots were where the end of the tules. But Gary's baits (Yamamoto) were only producing dinks. If you get bored, throw a senko inside the weed line and their is a 10" fish waiting to help you out. Blades produced better fish, but still squeekers.

So I moved south to cleaner water and began to fish a little deeper. Before, I was fishing the blade over the top of the weed beds, when I moved south, I started to throw to 5-8' and let it sink to the bottom. In my last hour, this produced a small set of keepers up to 3.5 Lbs. I pulled 13 fish in 4 hours in a post cold front condition... I'll take that.
      City: Walnut Creek

Tips: Don't ask me why, but titanium spinnerbaits are out producing stainless blades. I was throwing 3/8 oz in white.

PS. Don't miss "An Evening with Skeet Reese" at Gone Fishin Marine, Nov. 11 for details go to www.gfmarine.com.

Report: Fished Tracy bass today. Though I didn't do that well myself many of the 36 boat field did great.A lot of blade were thrown with success and cranks seem to work well also. If you are looking for a amateur circuit to run this winter Tracy bass is a good bet. I had a great time today.
      City: Tracy

Tips: Get out there and beat the bushes. Water is getting coolder.

Report: Took my girlfriend out to try our luck at Chabot. Dropshotted around 12 bass ranging from 0.5 - 2+ lbs fish. Also caught another 3 using a jerkbait fished shallow. No takers on the senko. Fished from Coots to Adlers Point and later around Bass Cove. Not size, but fun fishing. Saw a few big (double digit) cruisers but they just ignore us.
      City: EastBay

Tips: We were using 4.5 and 6 in robos in MM III, Aarons Magic, and BabyBluegill mostly catching using the MM IIIs. Jerkbaits were lucky craft pointer in Chartruse and American Shad.

      Water Temp: 56 -63 degree's

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I and a client didn't start untill 9AM this morning. Didn't seem to matter with the overcast and dead calm water.

Ran too mid-lake and started on the righthand side. My client immediately starting catching fish by drop-shott'in a morning dawn around 20ft where the work and mud join together. HA, we have a pattern developing. I was throwing a jig and never got hit. It slowed up some and I switch his bait to a Robo Black/grape and he proceeded to boat 10 more within an hour. I manage to boat one 2.10lb on a top-water mid stream between nett'in. The fish all ran between 1.5 and 2lb's.

      Good luck

      City: Livermore

Tips: Look for where the Rock and Mud join together and throw according to overcast or blue skies. Also have at least 30-35ft under your boat if you are catching them drop-shott'in. The fish didn't seem to relate to wood, altho the overcast may of had some bearing on it. Overcast use dark color and sun out use light color, morning dawn, green's or light brown/blue streak.

      Water Temp: 67

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Wow, what a difference the biggest mid-October storm in 30 years makes!! Since my last trip, the lake really hasn't changed much, but the fish have! They are in their wandering mode now, wandering mostly offshore - probably wondering what happened to fall!! Yesterday was a nice day, especially in the afternoon. I guided two guys for the second time at Berryessa and suggested we start mid-morning and fish 'til dark. That worked out well. The bite was slow in the morning and slowly got better and was fair at dark. We worked very hard for 13 bass - all three species - with one of the fellows landing the biggest of the day just before we left, a nice 2 1/2 smallie, after losing an even bigger one. He was the hot stick, catching 7 of our 13 bass and losing several! We wound up with an 8 3/4 lb limit - not too great. I was hoping for a topwater bite for us as it clouded up towards evening, but it remained only a hope. Nothing! Had a trout hit a topwater!! We fished from Markley Cove to above Rancho Montebello. After my clients left, I decided to try a little night fishing since a front was moving in. I fished for about 3 hours with 4 bites - no fish. This is common for October at night - the bass are not on the bottom and are mostly offshore - suspended in the bait. Last night was no exception! The fishing might have improved if I had stayed, but my warm bed was calling. All in all, a pretty good "tough" day.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: While my clients were split-shotting Camanche Jack's early dawn, purple ghost, and purple/brown worms, I tried reaction baits, including topwater through the day. They might have worked early in the morning, but not the rest of the day. Didn't have a jig bite either. No spoon or drop-shot fish. Unlike Folsom a few week ago, the Berryessa bait was suspended far off the bottom as the turnover starts. All of our fish were caught split-shotting, and if we caught one, we usually caught two or three. There had to be a deep water break nearby, and sometimes those are hard to find. Many areas produced nothing. Senkos might have worked, but we didn't throw any. The worm bite was just good enough. The 4 1/2 inch worm worked better than the 6 inch ones. There were really no bites, just "ohmygosh - I've got one"! I suggest moving around until you find some willing bass. The weather isn't going back to fall next week, so the fishing may remain puzzling until the weather settles down some.

Report: Fished for 3hrs got 5 with nothing big. Had to find the fish in groups in about 10-15 ft with shallow close by. Cut Tails and BBH split and C-rig'd. Slow Slow Slow. Not the funnest way to fish but still got some.

Tips: Mark fish and drag slow. Didn't try it but Drop Shot with a long tag end might be the ticket.

Report: Club tournament today 10 boats. Rain no wind. First 5 minutes 14.25 inch BB on super spook 5 feet off the bank. 2 nd keeper past narrows on rocky point drop shot 25 feet. Several small ones also all spots. Went to marinas and limited out on seinkos fishing corners and grass beds. Had 8 keepers for 2nd place and 8.20 lbs.
      City: orangevale

Tips: Lots of BB shallow. Top water early. tubes and seinkos in shade and grass pockets. Morning dawn was a good worm to drop shot.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Slow morning, fished for about 4 hours. Started off dragging a c-rig on the bottom, which produced a couple dinks. Then tried cranking for awhile, no takers. Went to the jig, caught two more and called it a day. Caught four biggest being 2 pounds. The bite was really soft fish seemed sluggish.
      City: Salinas

Tips: drag a c-rig on the bottom to locate fish, lizards work well in this lake. Fish are deep 20 to 30 feet of water.

      Water Temp: 63

Report: The water is extremely dirty from the recent rain runoff. The largemouth fishing was very slow. A couple of nice fish on jigs. The striper fishing is great with fish averaging 2 to 5 lbs. I threw topwater, senkos, spinnerbaits. All produced good quality Stripers. I stumbled onto the Stripers while fishing for Largemouth.

Tips: The Stripers are everywhere. From the shore to the middle of the lake. Throw a Senko right on the shore and you'll get fish. I'm sure all of the traditional Striper baits should work as well. I saw people hooking up throwing white Striper jigs .... Good fishing....
